How do you know if it's pneumonia?
This is getting ridiculous! I have been sick off and on since Thanksgiving. Sinus infection, cold, congestion, general chest, head crap.
I did 21 days of antibiotics and 4 days after I finished them, bam! This stuff is back again with a venegeance! My head hurts, my chest hurts, my rib cage hurts. I have a sort throat, congestion, practically no voice, coughing, my face hurts, my hair hurts! I know I have another sinus infection, or maybe the other one never got cleared up, but I think it's more than that this time. When do you know it's pneumonia? I just don't want to keep calling the doc...my regular doc is out on sabatical studying for his boards so I have to see the PA. He's good, but I just don't have the energy. I've been in bed for the last week. I went to my big shindig Saturday night, but other than that, I have been NO WHERE! And I didn't even stay that long! BTW, I looked great! I know I am whinning... |
does your chest sound weezey? is any fluid coming up? when i had pheumonia it went from the green goo..to bubbly foamy stuff. basiclly i was drowning. chest was sounding weezey and crackeling. hurt like the dickens. ( i'm sick now..same stuff. ugh. compounded with the fifth's..i'm a mess. :o) whooping cough is going around. this isn't anything to mess around with. you may have the flu. don't worry about bothering a dr. GO! |
I had pneumonia years ago and i just remember my rib cage hurting and having trouble breathing. I am not foaming at the mouth! LOL!
I know I should call the doc. I just don't want to get dressed and go...I have no energy. Whooping cough? I haven't heard of any cases here. That's all I need. I am not coughing like that. |
Hi
Same thing Coughing, green and you can break a rib or 2 from this. You may
have been giving the wrong antibotic,it happens. Do you have humidifier's running. Bed rest is good but please call your Dr.,he chose to be that a Dr. Hope you get better soon,it's yucky...  Sue PN |
I do have a humidifier! And I am using a steam inhaler to keep the gook running. As for antibiotics, I am allergic to most of them, so I don't have much choice!
|
Guess I am in good company! Sorry that you two are sick as well! Let's all get better soon!
|
Just go to the doctor. If you have the energy to attend a blacktie gala, you have the energy to flop into a pair of sweats and go hork some phlegm for the doc. Just go.

yes ma'am. |
I agree with Cindy. Get thee to a Doc or maybe even the ER is a good idea. I'm worried about you...enough is enough, already..:(
 |
I agree with Sally, maybe the ER is the place to go. Just go in your pj's. If they are flannel and warm, why not. Can't look any worse then sweats. Besides it's not Ms America, you are sick, it's ok to look as sick as you feel. :D
Please get your self well. |
Cheryl....(I never call her by her first name by the way unless she is in big trouble!) Take off your pretty new shoes, they look silly with the sweats and get your butt to the Dr. NOW!
|
Go to the ER, they'll check the goo you cough up, might culture it to see what kind of pneumonia you have, then they'll give you some antibiotics probably. They'll also probably x-ray your chest just to see how bad things could be.
If you let it go too long, they'll end up hospitalizing you, and you dont want that to happen. Much easier to recover at home, dont you think? So go, have a doctor check you out, and when you're really sick, it's amazing how easy it is to show up at the doctor's office wearing your jammies, having not taken a shower in a week, or combing your hair...and not caring that people think you look like a homeless person. At least the last time I did that, I changed into clean pajamas just so I would be slightly less offensive. |
CHERYL: Get your you know what to the ER. Don't play around with
something li9ke this. I did in 1969 and it turned into DOUBLE PNEUMONIA. I nearly died. I was in the hospital for 2 months. Did the same thing you are doing now. WAITING This is nothing to fool around with. SO GET MOVING TO THE ER. JOYCE |
cheryl...did go to the dr?
 |
Hi Cheryl. How are you feeling today. Any better? I do hope you do not have pneumonia and your Doc can find a magic bullet to knock this illness out of the ballpark.
I feel so bad for you. Don't be mad when we talk to you, as if we are your Mama, cause we're the good Mama, who really cares.:grouphug: Check in, when you are able. Gentle Hugs,:) |
I called the doc this morning. They are seeing me at 1 pm. Now if someone would please remove whoever this person is who is sitting on my chest, it sure would be a whole lot easier to move around...
Thanks for caring everyone. I know I need to see the doc...I just kept hoping I would get better. |
I agree with what has been presented. I would suggest also going to the ER as they have many more ways of determining what is wrong with you and getting you the right meds.
Yes! Something is severely wrong with you since you've had it this long and it rebound back even after the antibiotics. That's an indicator that what you have may very well be viral in nature. In that case no antibiotics are going to help. Maybe you need IV treatment. Go to the ER no matter what you look like. Heck! You're SICK for heavens sake. |
Oh, Good, Flygirl. Let us know how it goes.:)

Hello Cheryl,
I'm chiming in a tad late here, but I'm wondering if you might have something called "Mycoplasma Pneumonia", or what the lay person refers to as "walking pneumonia"? You should probably ask that they perform a cold agglutinens titre on you. That will tell them for sure. Mycoplasma Pneumonia is more or less a viral type of infection, but the symptoms can be speeded up by taking some kind of "mycin" antibiotic. I suppose you are being evaluated by your PA now. If nothing showed up and you didn't have a chest x-ray, I would ask for one. Often, Penumonia can be seen and not heard, and other times, we can hear it and not see it. I hope you start feeling better soon. You've really had a rough go of it as of late!:( Thinking of you, Chris |
Just got home from the doc.
I got a chest x-ray and am getting a sinus CT tomorrow afternoon. He doesn't want to put me back on antibiotics until he gets the results back. Also upped my nasonex to twice a day. We talked about maybe getting allergy tested again but will wait for the x-ray and CT scan. Said my sinuses are pretty red and swollen from what he can see but doesn't think I have an infection right now nor does it sound like pneumonia. MY 02 was sat was good. So...I am not dying. Thank goodness for that! For now, rest, liquids, keep up the steam inhaler and wait and see! |
Good girl, now do the last line repeatedly.

The operation was a success but the patient died, huh?:(. I love those kind of DX...LOL!!
I'm glad you are okie dokie, yet uncomfortable as he!!. Do what Doc Cinderella says. |
Thank you for going to the Dr. and I am so glad that even though you feel like poo, it wasn't pneumonia!
Rest and plenty of fluids....like juice and water (none of that hard stuff that you like):D |
I'm glad you went in and got checked Cheryl. I hope they get to the bottom of this. My sinuses are crazy this year too, but nowhere near like what you've had! I wonder if we can blame this on global warming?
 |

I'm late at seeing this, but I am relieved you went to the DR. I had to have an MRI of my sinus's a few yrs back, as just couldn't get over the sinusitis/cold bug. I really feel for ya, cuz that CRUD is nasty. Feel better friend and Stay in bed. You and Holly can watch an old movie together. |
Holy cow, Cheryl! How in the hell did you manage to get so sick
Get rid of whatever crud you have and feel better real soon  |
Doc called this morning. Chest x-ray was normal. No pneumonia.
Scheduled for a sinus CT this afternoon. Feeling a little better this morning. But still resting. I do have my voice back! But that person is still sitting on my chest. |
Quote:
Have you gotten the results of your C-T Scan yet, Cheryl? How are you feeling tonight? |
Quote:
Actually, not feeling quite so yukky...a little more energy but still coughing and my head is still pretty stuffy. I do have my voice back so I am not barking at people today! LOL! |

GOOD NIGHT! |
Doc just called. Not so sure I like the report of the CT Scan. Over the past few years, I've had many many MRIs. And I've also had 3 Sinus CT scans. The MRI that I had in December was read for non MS pathology....maybe I am expecting too much....but...here's what came back!
I have full-blown Chronic Sinus Disease. I also have full sinuses right now...gee, I knew that! I also have a deviated septum. Now that's the part that blew my mind. HUH! Is this something that just happens all of a sudden? I always thought this is a birth anomaly. So, I am getting a referral to an ENT specialist. Recommendation: Evaluate for surgery. Nunh uh....:( |
Hi Cheryl~~ Since I talked to you on the phone, I knew about your results, but no one told me until my Sinus scan a few yrs ago, that I had a deviated nasal septum either. I said WHA????
They said mine was probably due to the fact that I was 2 months premature. I always have a clogged up nose. In fact, am going to the Dr again tomorrow, as I'm sick again. You and are have got to be related. Let's see~~~ Do you like Rum? Do you like Toad Hollow? Do you like stalking geese? Yup, we's related!! |

Keep me posted on what the doc tells you, Missy! |

Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you?? *wiping sappy look offa my face* *oh and a lil snotty nose too*:p |

Wow! what a dx. Be a good girl and see the ENT. If you can be fixed and prevent this crud, go for it. I'm really sorry you are going through this yuck. Please take care as always and hug Holly girl too. |
