Things are on the right track now

Hey everyone, I am sorry for not posting in awhile. Jackie is hopefully on the right path now. We're going to be getting a new aide, a Behavior Assistant who will intervene and keep him from acting out on those violent and destructive impulses. For three hours a day Mon-Fri. They will be here from around 3:30 to 6 when we sit down to dinner. I hope it helps, we are hoping they can find someone in the next few weeks, it's going to take awhile. But anyway I am really excited and think this is the right direction. :D

On the homefront, we scored a recliner for FIVE bucks in pretty decent shape at a local charity thrift store! And we got a Gorgeous Loveseat for like $15! So twenty bucks and we're no longer resolved to sitting on regular non-folding chairs. We get the loveseat today and I expect Jackie will be tickled pink since we've not had a couch since we moved in it will be awesome to have a place to sit together and read and watch TV. I am really looking forward to it and will see about posting some pics of me and the little guy on it in a bit. I have to clean out the digital camera of the 12 shots Jackie took around the house. Then we'll be able to take new pics. That is what is holding me, the software isn't on the computer so whenever I get around to it is when it will happen. :)

I also got a killer MP3 Player for my birthday and it's awesome! For $30 bucks! A Nextar 1 gb with FM radio, voice recording for notes and it can hold other files, like my writing docs! It's a flash drive too, pluging in via USB to the computer and it was plug n play for me so I am ecstatic! It's amazing how much having my music back has improved my mood, I feel so much more at ease. And able to just sit here watching Jackie watching his DVDs and NOT lose my sanity. LOL! :D It's good to feel good again. :) If only we can get Jackie a little further down the road of development I'll be really happy! :D

It's as big as a bic lighter and fits perfectly in my hand, I love this little gadget! :D

Thanks bizi! It made me so happy Wednesday to load this thing up and set it to play, already gone through two batteries, that's another thing I love about it, it takes ONE AAA battery and goes for just over 12 hours. I am ecstatic to have things moving forward, Jackie is doing better at home thank heavens, but at school he's having trouble but we knew that he'd have to readjust after a long vacation, even so I think his dr will approve another risperdal increase since he's still on a relatively low dose at 1 mg a day. Once that happens I expect things will level out and school will be easier for him. I think the risperdal allows him to like turn the volume down on his uncontrollable impulses and I know that from experience, I took it for awhile and that is what it did for me with racing thoughts, turned the volume down so I could concentrate, abilify works better for me, but I think it stopped working for him, so now we're just hoping the risperdal keeps doing it's thing and helps us transition him into having two aides. :)

Lord help me, I knew I shouldn't have posted this today, that I was jinxing things somehow. He actually kicked his aide in the groin today when he didn't want to com ein and ran around the back of the house and didn't respond to verbal commands. Then he went to punch him in the head! I am so sick of this hell...*sigh*

befuddled2 01-18-2008 08:37 PM

 Pam,

It's going to take time I'm sure. Hang in there.

Oh my goodness, ((((((Pam)))))),

It was such a GIFT to finally see a smiley face coming out of your keyboard :D

You sound like you're the "shopping phenom". Don't you just love it when you find some great deals that just make your life EASIER

I remember when I moved here, it was right after a bankruptcy. I had a TV, a rocking chair, a piece of foam to sleep on and FIVE cats!! It was absolute heaven when I bought my first two pieces of furniture -- a sofa-bed and a BIG desk.

We forget how strong we are sometimes when life beats on us. I'm glad things are looking up for you and for your son

Got your music back, too -- what a GREAT WAY to start a new year!! BIG HUGS.

OMG I am SO clumsy! I dropped my player in the toilet! Can you believe my stupidity?? If it hadn't worked when I dried it out overnight and used a blow dryer on it this morning I would have been so disappointed and then would have had to tell Jack. It works still though man I am so lucky! Finally heard from his dr yesterday too and she didn't want to increase him more then a .25 dose at noon, but anyway she DID give it the okay for school to give him a dose at noon when he gets his clonidine.

Today he cut his hair at school, when the phone rang I just knew it was about him this morning before the noon dose...I was prepared to hear he'd done something really bad, hair grows back, that didn't bother Jack or me, because we figure he needs a haircut now. :)

WIsh us luck on things, I am still struggling with what he did friday kicking the aide in the groin...we're on track for getting another aide soon, like one or two weeks away and we'll have a new aide, a Behavior Assitant to help the other aide who only comes out for like three hours a week anyway, this new aide will be putting in 15 hours a week so hopefully it will help. :)

Thanks to both of you, I feel absolutely awful today. Jackie came home sick from school and is still sick with this terrible stomach bug that's going around here locally. I got it saturday, it came on so fast! Ugh, I haven't been sick like this in years. But anyway, I'll post more when I feel better, just had to let you all know we're still here and functioning, but at half power if even that. Take care! (((((hugs)))))

Mari 01-27-2008 12:46 PM

Dear Pam,
Please get better soon.
It's awful feeling sick, esp on top of our already demanding days.

Thanks bizi, I feel a lot better today and Jackie was finally well enough to go back to school, so we'll see how it goes the rest of this week. He really went ballistic this weekend when his dad had to go somewhere for a couple hours. It was awful! Threw a chair at a wall, broke my coffee pot, threw things at me but I blocked them so I didn't end up hurt, but man, he's a strong Ox!

Anyway, trying to see how today went by calling school but the line's been busy. Hope everyone is doing well. Thanks to you and Mari both for caring. :)

Pam

Hmmm, this is a interesting development. You have never really talked
about how he gets when his dad has to go places.

I have always wondered about this. I wonder if he needs more dad time
at times. I know my older boys did and still at times do.

I still have to referree between them at times.

Hi, Pam,

That was some weekend!
I hope that being back in school helps him.
It's good to hear from you.

Well his dad usually sticks close to home because he knows that Jackie needs him here. So if we go anywhere it's usually while he's at school. He definitely acts better for his dad then he will for me, he gets alot of dad time now which helps, but it's just hard for him to always be there. Everyone needs a break and thank heaven's he's back in school so we both can have a nice long break during the day. :)

So far so good, he's been acting better now that he's not sick. We'll be taking him out on our regular outing on Saturday (mom and I) and I pray he does well, because I would hate to lose out on seeing Mom because his behavior is just deteriorating so badly. Which it might have all been due to the flu. Only time will tell.

It's good to finally be able to post something again Mari, I missed you and the others, I still have to work on some stuff like a new book I just started so I am writing again and that is where most of my free time goes now during the day, or I would be posting more. Once I get this groove I am on for this new story run down a bit I will be back and post more. :)
