Big Screen TV's
What kind does everyone have and what are your opinions and reveiws. DH and I are going to get one but there are so many now . thanks
|
Until last week, I had a 57" Sony, rear-screen projection and loved it. It lasted approx. 6 years; repairs on bulbs, etc., were pretty much cost-prohibitive. (It has 3 bulbs, and to replace them, it's fairly pricey.)
That mine only lasted 6 years isn't at all indicative of how long one can last; I know several people and theirs are still up-n-running just fine. I now have a 47" Philips, and my opinion of it isn't very favorable - at this point. If it's not the set that has something wrong, it could be that the TV is ahead of the technology on older Dish and dish receivers. The are upgrades available for the Dish and components yet Dish people have told me to make several calls to diff. departments to get the best deal. |
We have a LG LCD and love it. LG is up and coming. I also have their washer and dryer. I do have a Mitsubishi and Hitachi rear projection large screen but they do not hold a candle to our LG.
|
We have both a Sony Plasma and a Sharp Aquos LCD.
IN the last few years Sony has dipped a bit in quality but brand name and preception has overidden that. Pioneer is the best high end TV. KNow that Samsung makes all the glass for the majority of all TVs made. I have a brand new Samsung in my office and its fantastic! Also check out Vizio they are new. |
vizio. not sure of the size. the picture is great. easy to set up and use.
lots of extra ports to plug stuff in. can even plug my pc into it. prices are really good at sams club and walmart. |
I also have an Olevia for the living room. It's a great picture but the sound isn't so good. However, a good home theatre package should make up for it.

This is a bit off the TV topic but-
I'll add that I am having a very difficult time getting info from the SonyStyle.com people. But it's not about a TV. But from the lack of results on the issue I wouldn't recommend any Sony products. just my opinion at the moment:mad: A large well known company like that should have much better customer service - IMO. |
Yeah Sony is a very arrogant company. Look at how for their cameras you canonly use their photo cards. And about the PS3 console and the Blu ray player. Its all about them.
They used to make better products. Apple kicked their butt a while back on the audio products with the ipod. |
:confused:I don't have one. They confuse me and I hear a lot of bad stuff, like that they give out (the plasma tvs) fast. They are very expensive so I am waiting to hear more positive stuff.
This post may be helpful as I read about what people here have. Tootsie:wink: |
We just bought a LCD 40 inch Toshiba.
Our preference has always been Sony but because we wanted to keep the current large all wood TV cabinet we were limited. Sony and Toshiba were both 40 inch however because of the extra casing around the Sony it would not fit in our cabinet so that's how we ended up with the Toshiba - less casing, more slim-lined. |
We have an LG and love it both the picture and sound is great and it is easy to hook up to everything. We had a vizio but it died within a year.
|
52" Sony LCD, the only one I could see in the store. ON makes my eyes big boo-boo's. Loved the Hitachi rear projection tv, but couldn't see the screen anymore :o.

Monolith
:eek:My TV is a Sharp. We got a really good buy on it at Costco. It's 37 inches.
We have a huge entertainment center and it was very expensive. It was the perfect thing for our Florida home, but when we moved it came with us (too hard to sell for a decent price!) and now I call it the MONOLITH:rolleyes:. It really stands out in my great room here. Hubby and I groan about it but we are too cheap to say adios. Even at resale shops the going price for these is not close to the cost. So for now the latest and greatest in t.v. world will have to wait. The TV we have now fits perfectly into the cabinet of the MONOLITH. Some day I'd like to get one of the t.v.s you hang on the wall. I'd like to play a CD on it that has nature scenes; just keep it going and enjoy when not watching the shows. Tootsie |
None, we have a 32 inch and like 5 or 6 smaller ones, basically I won`t spend the money. Maybe when the get down to 150 bucks.
|
we have a 48jvc rear proj....had it for a few years. It's alright...having it around the kids makes me nervous...as toddlers love nothing more than to bang against screens....I personally could live without a tv, but that's just me. :)
Best of luck on your purchase. I'm happy with the jvc. |
I have a 57" (I think) Hitachi Ultravision Digital. It's about 5 years old.
Why did I get it? I just liked the way it looked!! :o I can turn it on, off and change the channel. That's it. We have two other remotes that control the DVD player and I'm not sure what the other one does! I've had to call my son on his cell phone to get him to tell me how to get the "TV" back after he's left home with a movie on pause!!! :D |
Who knew we would have to learn another language just to talk about TV's!!
In the last year we have bought a Samsung 60 inch LCD 1080I for the living room and a Panasonic 42 inch plasma 780I for the bed room (wall mounted!! :) ). I like the picture on the plasma the best but it is not for Video games or long pauses. The image will burn into the screen. The 60 inch is great but it is huge. I need to have it wall mounted then I would like it beter. Just an FYI.. we purchased both TV's at Circuit City on special sale day's (day after Thanksgiving, Memorial Day) and paid less then half of the MSRP. |
bought a samsung 40" LCD 1080p since our old sony 52" first gen HDTV rear projection TV took a dump...
why did i pick a samsung? recommended from friends that own them and i had seen them in action in a real TV/video game playing environment.. i never liked judging them on the sales floor of the big chain stores.. because i don't watch TV with 120,000 watts of overhead lighting.. and i sure don't have 60 other TVs playing the same thing at once distracting me or 3 different sales people asking me if i need help.. so far i am happy with it.. i just wish they would figure out if bluray or HD will be the standard for DVDs so i can actually buy one and use it to its full potential.. even so 720p and 1080i HD broadcasts look pretty good much better them my old sony.. non digital signals look pretty bad but thats analog for ya.. |
Just bought a 42" Hitachi Plasma TV for 799.00, this was the last one at Best Buy sitting in the middle of the aisle, so we took it. And then we bought a JVC home theater package for $256. Everything is awesome.

We have a View Sonic LCD and are pretty happy with it. My DH did a lot of research on them before we bought it and this one had pretty good reviews for the price. Great picture, easy to use, etc.
