This is new (to me)
I had to go wee wee, but could not go,
My gut said "yes", my wee wee said "no" I was up in the night, to try and do it My wee wee still let nothing go through it! Now I'm wondering, is this at all bad? The opposite is worse, and makes me so mad. |

This is not good at all, and you can't leave it. You will need to be relieved SOON, or it very well could result in a UTI (which is very bad for us!). You will need to get cathed! BTW, this only happened to me once, and I was good by the morning. It's not necessarily a "permanent" symptom, but something that can not be left any length of time when it happens!! Cherir |
cindy...have you gone yet?
a warm bath can help. kinda gross...but you can relieve yourself in the water. :o i had a problem after my c-section with my son. went fine inthe hospital, but when i got home..i went almost 24 hours. NOT good. |
You need to get to an urgent care or an ER now. I had that problem a couple of months ago but if I pushed really really hard I could get a little out. I went ot Urgent care and they gave me a medication to relax the bladder and I was able to urinate, no cath needed.
I think you have more to worry about than just a UTI, where does the urine go once the bladder is full? |
Thanks everyone, it's coming a little at a time, I have a call in to the neuro so we'll take it from there.
Yappy, honey, bath+me= 911! It's a nocando! I just need to get P.O.d!!!!!!!!:D ETA: Hey! This just in, it's just out! I took some extra Zanaflex this morning and it seems to have helped. Neuro will call back with instructions from here. Thanks, everyone, I've never had this before. |
I was going to suggest an anti-spasticity med. I had this problem before and extra Baclofen helped. It seemed to be a massive bladder spasm or something. I was so glad it went away. I'm glad the Zanaflex helped you, but you should probably also consider a urology consult.

Awww, jeez Cin...I got back up, couldn't sleep, came in for a few minutes to see who was on and I see this!
So---- "I'm glad your wee wee is now open, I'm sure you sat there full of hopin', That something would come through there soon, and then it happened before noon, I promise not to give you grief, I'm just glad you got relief!!! ( deleted verse- "get the doc to check this out, before we whack you in the snout!" ) :D Let us know how it goes! ( or how you go!!) |

When I have to go #2 and bowels are full (TMI), my wee wee won't work, until....well, you know.. |

If this is an acute new symptoms for you then you need to call your neuro, Cindy. If you have not emptied in more than 12 hours you need to do something emergently. :( I guess it's better than being wet but it can get pretty annoying to spend so much of your day waiting for urine to come out. I did find that just sitting there and trying to relax and let it come out was sometimes more effective than pushing. Running water while you are sitting also helps a bit. OY! If it's not one thing it's another.  Editing to add....Hurray! Glad the immediate crisis has passed. That happened to me very shortly after diagnosis and I was in big time pain! |
Cindy, it sounds like your bladder is having spasms and not allowing you to push it through. Jim is taking Oxybutinin to relax the bladder. I hope they find something that works for you.
Now, you could always sit on the pot with your fingers under warm running water. Just saying. :-) Jim said bending over while on the pot helped him too. |

Cindy,
I'm glad you got some relief - I've had this happen before and it's not fun - especially not knowing when or if relief will happen. I just wanted to add - I'm so glad that we can all laugh about it. I know it's not really funny when it happens to us (and it's definitely not fun) - but having a sense of humor about it can actually reduce the stress and anxiety we all feel. I loved your little rhyme - and Riverwild's congratulation speech!!!:D |

Cindy, have you spoken to your neuro yet? |
Good morning my friend! I get this quite often! Doc has rx'd valium for me. 5 mg and nice cup of hot tea and voila' I'm peeing in no time! And then I cath just to make sure it's all gone!
That was my first symptom - no can do for 3 days! Talk about being miserable!!! Yowsa!!! Went to the ER to get cath'd 3 times!!! I hope all is well with you this morning! |

know what to tell you. Went on to read the rest of the posts and was happy to read that you were able to let it gopppppppppppppppppeeeeeeeeeeee. I know ms can cause this. I have never had it happen, and pray that I will not experience this problem. Talk to your neuro about this. Let us know what his advice will be. Jappy :hug: |
Oh Cindy,
I have to do intermittent self-catheterization twice a day because I started to experience this several years back. I thought I was emptying my bladder but apparently each time I went, it was not emptying completely. I was referred to a Urologist and underwent Urodynamics and I was holding more than 100 cc's of urine at times. They decided to teach me the SIC then, and I've been doing it twice daily ever since. Now, I don't fret that I'm not emptying my bladder completely because I know that twice a day I will be cathing. I was getting urinary spasms at the time, and I haven't had them since then either. Perhaps you need an evaluation by a Urologist. If they do suggest SIC, it really isn't so bad. I'm so used to it by now, that I don't think about it. I just do it every morning and every night after I brush my teeth. I'm glad you were finally able to go. But, this is not a symptom that I would take lightly, it's just part of our lives. |
Hey diddle ~diddle, the cat and the fiddle.
I'm sure glad AMN went piddle. Now, give me back my avatar!! *poking pins in AMN doll* Does your eye hurt? How about your foot? *getting out knitting needle* GIVE HER BACK!!! *sharpening knitting needle* |

So, if I keep going as usual, I don't need to call in until tomorrow. Here's hoping! |
Fingers croosed!!:winky: Just don't cross those legs of yours, you may have trouble going again!!:D
|
Ummm, do you two know you have the same avatar? :Hum:
Cindy, I hope this is temporary for you. |

Back to the topic, my neuro is hoping that it's just a little glitch and it will end by tomorrow. Otherwise, they're gonna hook me up.

I'm not sure. She said that if it starts up again, I'll be going in and we'll talk about it. I think it's a little better now, but I'm not sure I've conquered it completely.
|
cindy,
i'm glad you went but make sure you're really emptying. it may be time for a urology or MS urology consult. they will ultrasound your bladder to make sure you're emptying. i had this problem some time ago and the urologist wrote a Rx for catheters etc. at least i have them in the house for emergencies. stay on top of this before the wk is out. and, that's an order missy! Tweeeeeet :D |

No. It's feeling not right again, I so don't want to go camp at the doc's tomorrow.:( |
AMN, I go through this often. It's frustrating and I feel for you. Hopefully you can get some studies (urodynamics, ultrasounds, etc.) done to find out what is going on. So that it can be taken care of soon.

Know the feeling. I had to camp out today and it was not fun. Speaking of camp - maybe you could put your hand (wrist) in the warm water. You know like we did to kids in camp. LOL. |
[QUOTE=mbsews;193823]DSD or detrusor sphincter dyssynergia is a common urinary symptom in MS and was one of my earliest symptoms. It means there is a lack of communication and coordination between the muscle that is suppose to relax to let urine out (urinary shincter) and the muscle that is supposed to contract to empty the bladder (detrusor). Zanaflex did help me but there are some others that work too...like Flomax. ;) Sometimes it requires self-cathing though...............................QUOTE]
I've been there too. I couldn't pee for weeks unless I pushed hard and pressed on my bladder, then I got into self cathing and tra-la, easy peasy! After about 5 months of cathing, I'm only using them very occassionally now...like once a week or once a fortnight, instead of every toilet trip. I'm glad your's is settling down AMN, and I too hope it's just a little glitch for you. |
Tell me something, you cathing ones, do your fingers work right, or are they like mine, numb & dumb (can't quite hold a pen or cup, etc.)?
|
Cin,
I hate to do this cause it's such a serious subject and I am in NO WAY making fun... but I woke up today and the first thing that came into my mind when I sat down for daily meditation in the meditation room was Marshall Tucker Band's song...Do you remember "Can't You See, oh can't you see..what that woman's been doing to me" When I was much younger and sillier, I used to sing it as .... "Can't you peeeee? Oh can't you pee..." ( end of OT silliness!):winky: |
