anyone else talk to themself?

maybe its just because i have a lot on my mind these days.. but i have found myself talking to myself quite a bit anymore when i am alone or working on something.. (course i also talk to my dogs like they are people.. as if they have any idea what i am saying to them.. but at least they look interested LOL )

like when driving today i kept yammering on about how much i hate our snow blower.. and trying to figure out what i am gonna say to the shop i bought it from... its brand new and has been in for repairs more then it has been at our house.. nothing wacky or anything.. i guess you could call it thinking out loud.. or trying to work my problems out... out loud... but i just hope i am not the only one.. MS or not it makes me feel a little nuts that i do that..:o

MooseasaurusRex 01-23-2008 07:20 PM

PD,
Don't sweat it partner. I'm guilty of it too.
---Keeping a journal and making lists helps me.---

MSCherokee 01-23-2008 07:21 PM

Yep, and it drives hubby crazy at times! I talk to myself at work, but then again so does my supervisor. But yeah, I work out problems out loud. For whatever reason when I verbalize it I can come to a solution much easier.

DAY1 01-23-2008 07:21 PM

All Day long, every day. It will start in my head, but before it's over, I'm having a whole conversation out loud, with myself.

DAY

MSacorn 01-23-2008 07:22 PM

Yes, I am a self talker. I find that when I really want to hear something running through my head, saying it aloud, stops the chatter and gives me a perspective I wasn't getting with the thought/problem rattling in my head.

Ok, it sounds goofy, but so what. If I'm goofy I can live with it, cuz it works for me.

Anyone else?

Blessings2You 01-23-2008 07:25 PM

Yes indeed. It seems to help me focus, keep my mind from wandering off to parts unknown. Drives my husband crazy, which is another plus. :D

Bets 01-23-2008 07:28 PM

On the bright side, at least you know you are doing it. I have been told I talk to myself, but I don't recall that. I do know that I make expresive faces sometimes when I am thinking (or perhaps talking to myself). I must look really wierd hen I'm out in public when I'm out in public by myself.

GladysD 01-23-2008 07:31 PM

Sometimes....and sometimes it's a great conversation ;)

My mind races so much I start talking to myself. I don't say anything out loud - I just move my lips. It doesn't matter who is around.

Not only that: I will ask a question and answer it! :mf_argue:

Sometimes it's the best conversation I had all day!!

DM 01-23-2008 08:03 PM

Well, I certainly don't think your'e crazy or anything, cuz if you are for talking to yourself, then I am waaaaay out there.

I find myself talking to myself in my car all the time. Actually, I'm talking to a higher up or sometimes to my Mother who has passed on.

Sometimes, if I don't want to forget something, I will say it out loud to myself, so I don't forget it. I even talk to my dogs.

We're normal, right??

:) I was always taught it's the ones who question their sanity who tend to be sane....it's the ones who don't question it, you have to watch out for ;)

MamaMonkey 01-23-2008 08:21 PM

I talk to myself often...it's only when I start answering back that I get worried :D

Yes, I talk to myself (no one else will) I also talk to my dog (the dog is dead, and his cremains are on the headboard of my bed...his box is really pretty)

So far, TinyMonsters has not talked back to me since he died, when he was alive, he talked to me in Bouvier-ese all the time (watch Star Wars, listen for Chewbacca, that's what Tiny sounded like)

Jodylee 01-23-2008 10:05 PM

Definitely PunK! I think it's more like thinking out loud for me. Except when I talk to my cats, which I do quite a bit. I actually have one that 'talks' back. When I talk to her she always responds with a meow after every sentence! I suppose she thinks I understand her LOL! It is really funny! I think it's normal but when other people hear her talking back to me they think it is hysterical!

thav1 01-23-2008 10:21 PM

My talking to myself has become the family joke.Even our 6 year old granddaughter makes fun of me. No respect,no respect <in my best Rodney Dangerfield voice>

There is a myth that when George Lucas was creating the character of Chewbacca, that he was inspired by his dog (he owned a Bouvier des Flandres at the time according to the myth) and that he used his dog's voice for Chewie.

Whenever I would feed TinyMonsters, we'd make him wait before we'd let him eat. I'd tell him to "wait" and then I'd put the food down and he wouldnt move till I said "Ok!". Tiny was really good at waiting, but he'd be swearing in Bouvier Wookiee-ese the entire time. Sounded just like Chewbacca in the Star Wars movies. He was such a cool dog. I'm glad that I got to have him as my last dog. (not getting another one again...probably) I have some of his hair, if I could clone Tiny, I would.

Gazelle 01-23-2008 10:49 PM

Do it all the time--talk to myself, answer back, have whole imaginary conversations out loud. Helps me plan for possibilities, eventualities, and what ifs.

And here I am, the gal who wanted to follow others down the street as a teen to listen to their conversations, doing it myself. Gotta wonder.

On the plus side, at least I know I'm doing it. :)

Pickles 01-24-2008 12:58 AM

First off - HUZZAH! You found us!! :D

OK, I talk to myself alot. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. And answering yourself isn't bad either, just shows good manners. ;) Just watch out if you start to argue with yourself out loud....

tamiloo 01-24-2008 02:33 AM

OMG...when I read your post I said...self look at that she does it too...

My honey always says to me that when you two get done talking I would like to talk to both of you...

Dang...I talk to the animals as if they can understand all I can say...

GladysD 01-24-2008 06:37 AM

Do any of you use hand gestures while chatting alone? I find myself in a thought or silent conversation and poof, I'm using my hands to go along with my animated thought :)

TheSleeper 01-24-2008 07:34 AM

Ya, an intelligent conversation is hard to come by, I am to smart to answer the dummy though.:D

Kristi 01-24-2008 08:23 AM

Yes,I'm guilty of talking to myself as well.

momXseven 01-24-2008 10:15 AM

I thought everyone talked to themselves.

Oh well I guess it's just the special ones that do. :D

sugarboo 01-24-2008 11:30 AM

<-------------Talks to self

mommywms 01-24-2008 01:21 PM

I had to giggle over this one.I also talk to my weenie dogs like humans,And we have a pit,his name is catfish. I talk to him too. And at one point I was talking our nemos in the fish tank.
I think I do that mainly cause I am at home all the time, and the kids r in school,so their the only ones I can talk to. LOL.:winky: And they listen pretty well too.
but yes I talk to myself,if I want to remeber something,or if I do something stupid. Ill call myself a dumb, dumb.
It is kinda weird too.The dogs sit there and look at me like im nuts. lol.

PunkDizzle 01-24-2008 01:34 PM

ahh such good news to know i am not the only one..:D or maybe we are all just a little nutty.. which is also fine with me..:winky:

Vegasgrl 01-24-2008 01:44 PM

I think everyone talks to themselves some people even answer themelves. It's when you are in a room full of people and still, or prefer to talk to yourself that you may need to worry. :yikes:

KajunButterfly 01-24-2008 04:58 PM

Dogs are good listeners, arent they?

My aunt's pug (my dog's best friend in the world) is a good listener. I talk to Pudge just like I used to talk to Tiny. Pudge is almost as good a listener as Tiny was.

Oh yes we are normal :D

Everything seems to be better when I talk out loud. As long as we
don't hear someone answer us back we are OK

DM the best to talk to is Sage. With those loving eyes just looking
at me I can say, sing, try to act whatever and never worry about getting any
comments. POOR DOG :D

Jappy

Taffy 01-27-2008 09:10 PM

All the time! I listen to myself sometimes too!:D

hjmom 01-27-2008 09:34 PM

Yep, I talk to myself all the time. Helps me keep things straight:Grin-Nod:

braingonebad 01-27-2008 09:35 PM

I talk aloud to reason things out. I can't hear myself think sometimes, I lose my train of thought a lot.

Then there are times when I'm just goofy and absurd things just come out.

"Monkey boat? What the devil is a monkey boat?"

:p

the Bird 01-27-2008 10:30 PM

Brain, that is a gross Avatar...just so you know!!! :D

Punk, I'm a self talker, always have been! Used to sing songs as a kid as a way of talking to myself! Now I just talk!!! LOL

If we all aren't normal, at least we are in good company!!!
