It wasnt just me! (movie review for Cloverfield)
 

If any of you are planning to go see the movie Cloverfield, and you're really susceptible to vertigo, read this news story.

I went to see that movie on sunday night with my boyfriend and a friend of his (his friend picked the movie, it was his birthday)

About 20 or 30 minutes into the movie, I started to feel sick. Little while later, I had vertigo. Thank goodness that I carry Dramamine with me all the time now. (after 3 months of very active surprise! vertigo attacks, I learned to always be ready for it)

I ended up listening to most of the movie, I dont think Boyfriend realized that I didnt watch the movie. I still have my ticket stub, I might just email the theatre and see if I can get my money back. (I couldnt just stand up and leave, I'd have fallen down and would have had to crawl out of the threatre)

The movie itself was not too bad, wasnt too disgusting special effects-wise. A few scenes with some blood, and a gross looking monster destroying New York City. The acting wasnt too bad for a bunch of unknown actors too.

But, I was so ill by the end of the movie...Boyfriend and his friend wanted to stay and watch the credits, and were surprised when I got up and stumbled down the stairs (after everyone else had left the theatre...I didnt want people to see me fall down)

Boyfriend didnt seem to believe me about the vertigo. Now with that link, I've got proof that it wasnt just me! Other people (apparently non-MSers) also got ill from the movie.

I'm never again seeing a movie filmed in that style (like one of the characters is the guy running the videocamera, with jerky, vertigo-inducing camera angles)

thank you so much from the bottom of my dizzy little heart for the warning,i can't think of anything worse than having to sit through the entire movie because it made me too dizzy/nauseated to move! Dramamine does not help me much, prevention is definatel better than cure for me- thats one movin i can live without seeing

My son who gets very car sick almost got sick at this movie. He too
had to watch it with his eyes closed.:(

He told me I would have hated it. Years ago, I once vomited while
watching cops.:o I cant handle the car chase scenes.

Wow...that's happened to me watching cops too....I never connected that! Learn something every day :D

I just wanted to warn any MSers that get vertigo really easy to see that movie at their own risk.

Cloverfield has actually replaced the movie To Live And Die In LA as the worst movie I've ever seen. Only because of how sick Cloverfield made me feel.

When I was about 6 or 7yrs old and my dad took me to the premiere of Star Wars, the scene for the battle at the Death Star made me a bit woozy too, but nowhere near the spinning vertigo that Cloverfield did. But, the Death Star scene only makes me a little light headed if I watch it on a large movie screen. So why did I see Star Wars over 300 times in the theatres the first time it was released? I guess back then I was able to ignore the two or three minutes of discomfort. Plus, Star Wars is totally cool.

Cloverfield was an hour and a half (I think) of jerky, bouncy, vertigo inducing camera movements. It didnt let up until the credits started to roll.

Thanks for the vertigo info re: Cloverleaf. It is now a no see movie for me. I'm dizzy most of the time and vertigo is even worse. I appreciate the heads up.

bummer my wife gets motion sick on some video games/movies... so looks like i am watching that movie by myself... but thats ok i don't think its her kind of movie anyway.. unless there is a lot of drama and people falling in love...:Yawn:

Oh man, I am finished with movie theaters period for that very reason. I went to see Enchanted, the first in a theater in years, and my head was swimming even just watching that movie.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'm a DVD girl now and it doesn't sound like I'll even be able to stand it that way!

I just saw a couple of seconds preview on a CNN health show warning about this movie. I got all wonky and dizzy :eek: I guess I can take that movie off my list of things-to-do this year.

My 19 year old saw it with some of his friends and one of the girls had to excuse herself quickly because she got motion sickness and ended up vomiting. Nine bucks to see a movie that makes you vomit...no thanks, LOL.

Thanks for the warning..although I probably won't be going back to see a movie anytime soon! Last one I went to the noise was so loud...YIKES! I KNOW I couldn't stand one that makes me dizzy.

I like movies, but tv shows and movies that use the "handycam" style of filming make me ill sometimes.

Yep, went and saw it with DH. I had to keep my eyes closed the whole time. Would have left but DH wanted to see it.

I get motion sickness very bad.

This is definitely the worst movie I've ever "not" seen. What a waste of film. It does give me hope tho. If someone would waste resources on a film like that then the movie script I'm writing should be a great success! :D

Dang, I wanted to see this movie. Guess I better not take Jim with me.

I read another story in the paper that if you wait until the movie comes out on video, you shouldnt have a problem watching it. Since when you watch a movie like this on a tv, you have things to distract you when you're watching, like furniture, decorations around the tv...things like that.

Maybe if you wait till it comes out on video, no one will get ill while watching it?

We went to it and I did feel a little woosy...Its filmed like the Blair witch project...at our theater they had a warning sign that it may cause you to become ill because of the way it was filmed...sorry all but I didn't like it at all...I went to two really bloody movies with Craig that week and he has promised me some major chick flicks for putting up with that.
