I just need to vent, bear with me.
OK I have had odd things going on with me all my life (I'm 34) the past 10 years I knew something was not right. 9 years ago DX with fibro. The past 4 years I have thought it was MS, thats when the numbness started and things got worst (memory, speech, etc.). Anyway all this wasn't hard to deal with over the years but than Dec 27th I guess my body said No More, I was out shopping and my left hand when numb, no biggie it has done that before. Well it stayed numb a long time this time (before was never even an 1/2 hour) and I got very tired and even had to leave to store. By the time I got my food in the van I had to sit there and catch my breath. I drove over to have lunch with DH, I only got worst at time when on. I was now having presser in my chest also and just talking left me winded and light headed so off we went to the ER. Well lots of test later and no answers I leave and go home to rest.
The next day my legs go numb, well I'm NOT running back to the ER this time, lets wait and see what happens. So the next day while having dinner the numbness have moved up higher and I'm now numb from my thighs down (and still having the other issues) so we go back to the ER. Bt the time I get seen I'm numb from my lower ribs and down, again lots of test and no answers and told to see a neuro and off to home I go. Well the numbness lasted 2 1/2 days, so over the next week it moved from all my legs to just the mid area to just my left hip to just my belly to gone than back to my left leg to gone. Than I get this burning pain in my left hip (I still have this now also). A few days later a blood vessel in my eye breaks and off to the ER because my eye hurt to move it and had some vision loss, while waiting to be seen I get a migraine. Dr looks at me and said I was fine, didn't care about the pain of moving the eye or the sudden vision loss. Gave me meds for the migraine and sent me home. I see the neuro and he runs more test including an LP. The LP was awful, he didn't numb me and had to stick me 6 times, he kept hit a nerve a few times. He pushed on my spine a lot and even had me move some once with the needle in my back. After a whole 10 minutes of laying there after the LP they send me home, 3 days later I get the awful spinal headache, off the ER the neuro said. I got the caffeine IV to fix it. But I must have picked up a bug while I was at the ER because I got very sick the next morning and was back in the ER the next afternoon. Just as I get back on my feet I get a cold from my 3 year old, well this it's just a cold. There's an awful bug going around that is like the flu and a stomach bug all in one (the stomach part seams to only be a 2 day thing). I go by the neuro for the results of the LP and after all the test come back tells me it's just anxiety! My MRI's were clear, blood work - OK, LP, well HE said it was OK. Now here I sit not over this bug yet and still having the burning pain in my hip thinking about how crappy the past 29 days have been. I have been to the ER more the past month than I have been in my life. |
Awww Julie  I'm so sorry to hear what a difficult time you are having. I wish there was something I could say or do to make it better. Just know that you will be in my prayers.

Hello Julie,
I'm SO sorry you're having a rough go of it right now, but I just wanted to let you know that we all have and that you have the MOST BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN!!!! Enjoy them, they are God's blessing. I hope you feel better lickety split! All the best, Chris |
(((Julie)))
So sorry to hear you have been going through all of this!! I hope things start to look up for you!! And your kids are darling! Love your avatar!! :) |
((((((Momxseven))))))) You poor thing. That's enough stress, already. I hope it gets better for you, soon..:)

Hey MomXseven, so sorry to hear all you've been through. How rotten to feel rotten and then have doctors act rotten toward you. The good ole anxiety diagnosis. It's soooo easy for them.
Hang in there. Wait for the tide to turn. Try any and all ways to feel better--enlist other people's help so you can get some rest, do what you need to do for yourself. I can't believe you were told anxiety about the eye symptoms, and although anxiety CAN cause numbness, what you had doesn't sound like that! Just HANG IN THERE. Nancy T. |
Thank you all so much. :grouphug:

julie,
that is just PITIFUL. your dr definitely needs to be replaced. i vote for getting another opinion. make sure you get copies of your records from his office. you'll have to sign a release and may have to pay but what you read may be an eye opener. at the least it will be informative. then get copies of your mri's. armed with all that you can bring it with you should you want another opinion. i'd also check with your pcp. hopefully they will take you seriously. maybe they can get you back on your feet. your dr doesn't sound qualified to do an LP. errrrrr. i hate when drs tx you like that. anxiety???? poo. |
I agree. Definitely not qualified to do an LP. 6 times!! I'm so sorry that happened to you.
Hope things look up for you here soon. |

I am going for a 2nd opinion on Monday, I have all the records emailed to me every time I see the Dr. He's nurse is great and feels the patient have to right to see what's in there files. I just don't have time to get the MRI films before I see the new Dr. Thank you. |
When I was getting a second (third...fourth...) opinion when I was dx'd (back in 2002) I would only bring labs and films...I figured if anyone wanted another doc's notes, they would ask for them. That way, I got a "new, clean" opinion...hope that makes sense.
Funny thing is - neuros NEVER ask for notes from another doc. Is it a pride thing? I hope you get some answers - trust yourself, you know your own body better than anyone else! |

Momx7 - Wow! hey, vent away. That's a rough ride.
I hope things calm down and you're feeling better. I hear you... I've had docs write all kinds of wrong stuff about me, too. Makes you wonder what language they speak. I believe what goes around comes around, and I'm sending an embarrasing itchy rash to those who treated you poorly. :D Keep firing the bad docs and looking for good ones. I got fired by my pcp of 20 yrs! I was devestaed. But all for the better. The pcp I see now is worth his weight in gold (which is over $800 an ounce, lol). Hugs and good luck - btw, I'm also in limbo. |
You certainly have been thru the wringer! I hope you start to feel better and I also hope the new doc can listen and treat you well-

I am so sorry things are hard for you right now. Its incredibly frustrating to be told that you are just nervous, go home, calm down, and it will be all better.
Please find a "team leader" like a great Primary care MD who can direct your care. Sit and speak to him/her honestly. Tell them, if this IS anxiety, you are willing to deal with that diagnosis, and work hard to get it under control, BUT you truly believe that other things are in play and would like some help figuring out what is going on with your body. Anxiety wont burst a vessel in your eye! No matter what, the Neuro had NO business doing an LP with NO lidocaine!!! that was just cruel. From just that interaction, it tells me that he wasnt interested in your care, or comfort, he just wanted to move you off his table. NO ONE should be treated that way. So, sit with an MD and ask them to help you make a map to figure out what is happening. Start simple, with the easy blood tests. Lyme, hep, CBC, LFT, B12 and the like. Those things can mimic MS. Move on to the MRI. My neuro tells me the MRI is MUCH more accurate than an LP as long as they use dye for the MRI. Show your MD that you are serious, and if its anxiety that you are willing to do the work to control it at the same time. Getting a partnership going will help you feel more in control and feel more heard. Being dismissed is an awful feeling. If you meet with MDs that you feel are dimissive. FIRE THEM! Find one that hears you. good luck and let us know how you are doing. :grouphug: |
 Good luck with your 2nd opinion. I sure do hope you find some answers soon.
