wish me luck
I have to take my DD, 6, to have allergy testing done today.
I have explained the test to her so she knows what to expect and she is ok with it in theory, hopefully she'll be ok once they start. I believe the girl said she would get 3 or 5 in each arm . I'm very nervous and would love to just put it off but she always seems to have a runny nose just about year round. Plus she had some hearing blockage because of fluid so rather than take the chance of causing permanant damage..... I'm just nervous, I have already promised to make her Crepes for dinner tomorrow and take her to the store this weekend to buy something ;). I just wish I could take the test for her but I know it doesn't work that way ;). |
Good luck Sherrie, Im wishing your little one the best.:)My ds16 had
the testing done at the age of six too. They actually did it twice because they thought there was some mistake with the first. The allergy tech did the test soooo fast that he felt nothing and had little puffy dots on his forearm for a day. There were about 80 little picks but he didnt even flinch.:) I think shell do fine. Does she have additional bloodwork because I recommend you get emla put on the blood draw site. It really helps. Our pediatrician lets us walk in to have the nurse apply emla before bloodwork. thinking of you, Sox |
 Hope everything goes ok. I remember being tested as a kid. Didn't like it, but it led to being helped.

Hi Carrie,
She'll be okay. Both of my kids had the allergy testing done together. It did hurt but they did really well, except that they're allergic to darn near everything. Give her a hug from me:hug:! |
Hi Carrie
She'll do fine! I know you're worrying cuz you're a mom. Like soxmom's DS16, I had allergy testing twice so far and had about 40 or so pinpricks in each arm. The ones that reacted, they retested on my back! yeah...what fun. I really didn't feel much more than a pinprick. The tech did a good job of entertaining me, but as you know I am easily entertained. :D |
Good luck today. I had those things done many yrs ago and had wkly allergy shots for 3 yrs.
She'll do fine. And, a promise of something special afterwards always works. Let us know how she does, OK? Wer' Moms, we worry! :) |
How did your little one do today Sherrie????? I hope it went well.
Let us know when you can.:) Soxmom |
Carrie, How'd it go???

Good Luck to your DD!! And good luck to YOU too! It's hard watching them suffer, isn't it?! I hope these tests show some results and you get move forward towards her own wellness :)
Keep us posted  |
You're back C! How'd it go with DD?:)

Hi all sorry took me so long to get back here. I was sick this weekend so I was a good girl and tried to rest.
Well she did fabulous!:D The tech couldn't believe she was only 6. She had 12 allergy reactions . Most were mild thankfully but the tech said she thinks the reason she is always so congested is becaus there are so many. Her worst is to burning wood, I guess the decaying in it spreads through the smoke. She is alergic to Pine, Oak , and Birch trees. Mold 2 different kinds, dust mites, penicilin ( we knew this one already), hay, mugwort, cat , and egg whites. She cried when the tech said cats because we have one, but it was a mild reaction. The tech told her that she wouldn't recommend getting rid of the cat at this point just minimizing her contact. Keeping the cat out of her room and not letting them sit together and such. She wasn't happy about the eggs either, she likes omelettes, it was also mild so the tech recommended trying to cut back on them to try to give her a chance to grow out of it. She recommended duck eggs for omlettes and baking or she gave me some info on how to substitute eggs in baking. I was lucky a girl at work has ducks and she said she'd bring me eggs, I thought it would take me awhile to find them :D. They want her to stay on the loratideen, Claritin, year round because her allergies are seasonal and year round ones. Plus she has had temporary hearing blockage do to fluid so they want to try to minimize what they can. They also recommended not having carpeting in her room which we were going to pull out the old one and put a new one in so instaed we will do pergo. All in all it went well. Thanks for your thoughts and concerns. I think I'm gonna check out the allergy forum to get some advice there. I love this place. |
thanks for getting back to us Carrie;)
Im glad she did so well. My son was also allergic to alot of those. Dust mites have been the most difficult but its doable and made a difference for him. Good luck, Soxmom |
Thanks for the update Carrie, I'm glad to hear it went well over all. One of my kids test positive for a lot of allergies when they were 3 but she had already out grown some of them (she's almost 8 now). We have found that Zyrtec helps her the most (so happy it's OTC now, RX cost us $45 for 4oz, OTC cost $8.50 for 4oz).
