Moment of terror

Ok, heart has stopped pounding. Got that horrible, terrifying call!! High School Attendance office called to say DD wasn't in school, asked me to please call in absence in future. BUT DD DID GO TO SCHOOL THIS MORNING!!! She takes a school bus, going down long drive and waiting alone on roadside. I made calls fast. Turns out she's there, substitute got attendance wrong. My heart and breathing are now returning to normal.

Thank goodness they found her.

Girlie Girl 02-04-2008 10:20 AM

OMG!!! What a horrible feeling :holysheep: Thankfully she was there! Take a few deep breathes....

Jodylee 02-04-2008 10:21 AM

That's awful!!! I would've been horrified too:eek:. Incompetence is everywhere. I'm so glad she's safe:):).

FinLady 02-04-2008 10:22 AM

Sorry you had that scare. Oh my. Glad she's ok.

AfterMyNap 02-04-2008 10:24 AM

LOL, sorry you had a scare, Kick. I'm laughing because as a non-parent, my immediate reaction was "Bummer, busted!" LOL, understand that this is no reflection of my youth. ;)

Glad she's okay!

(((((kicker)))))

i went through the same thing..with my 6 year old. i freaked out. drove to the school. he doesn't ride the bus, i dropped him off at the front door. i really thought someone stole him. :o

i hope the rest of your day is peaceful.

Twinkletoes 02-04-2008 10:53 AM

AMN, you are baaaaad! :D J/K

Kicker, isn't it nice you have a dependable daughter? So glad she's safe! Grrrrrrr that the sub caused you to worry. :(

I remember the days (starting to sound like an OLD person!) when I had 2 kids in high school. I was trying to be a "good" Mom (Gestapo) and would show up at the school at least once a week to see if they were attending classes. They weren't.

Glad those days are behind me. Kids turned out okay, despite my mothering.

But in my defense, aren't Mom's supposed to worry? :)

Curious, glad your found your 6 year old monkey. They are so cute and we love them so much!

Bannet 02-04-2008 11:05 AM

I'm sorry you had to go through that. My first thought was the same as AMN BUSTED!

Glad she was at school.

I remember one time that my mom got locked out of the house so she came up to the high school to get my house key. (I wasn't there)

I got caught no matter what I did LOL. It was not a happy day for me!

Kicker, I am very glad your daughter is okay and the sub made a mistake. Yes, it can be very scary

AMN - I had the same reaction as you and I am a parent

My daughter went through a very bad few months last school year and ditched classes many times her freshman year of high school. She panicked at one point and never came home from school. Needless to say after not seeing her get off the bus and driving around for over an hour I was terrified.

I went to the police station and reported her as a runaway then went home and started making calls. This was on a Friday and we finally found her, with the help of an ex-boyfriend, at 1:15 Saturday morning. We took her to the police sub-station to inform them we found her and the officer (bless his heart) scared the crap out of her.

Thank goodness she seems to have moved on from her freshman year and is doing quite well as a Sophmore with an awesome GPA - yes, proud parent here :)

OMG, how scary. I'm so glad she was really there at school.

SandyC 02-04-2008 11:25 AM

My first thought was she skipped too! I am glad they found her though. I can only imagine the fear that went through your head. :(

I skipped once and my mom waited for me at the door as I came up the stairs. Let's just say she knew I skipped and my head was hurting for a week when she got through with me.:(

A lot of misspent youths in this bunch. Now that I'm calmed down, remember my own youth. Boys, Strawberry Hill wine, skipping school, parties where the parents were out, smoking MJ back then not uncommon. BUT I"M THE MOM NOW, it's different now, right? My own mom is in heaven laughing and saying "now you get yours."

I was so bad my mom put a curse on me. She looked me in the eye and said "I curse you. My mother did it with me and now you'll get yours when you have children." I laughed at her and got my face slapped.

My kids put me on the rollar coaster but no where near the things I did. lol

anon72413 02-04-2008 11:42 AM

so glad she's safe, kick

...and that she isn't one who makes you first think "busted!":p

Yeah, our kids school calls around 1-2PM, what if something did happen, we wouldn't know until the end of the school day.

kicker 02-04-2008 11:48 AM

No offense Sandy, but bet you were TROUBLE.

Haha! My mom said I was the best of all four kids. I may have partied and skipped school but other than that I was a good kid who helped her and never took anything except cigs from her. :o

SallyC 02-04-2008 12:14 PM

I know what you were going through, Kicker and I'm so glad everything turned out OK.

A kick in the pant's of the School..

hollym 02-04-2008 12:38 PM

Yeah, my first thought was "whew sure glad they didn't do things like that when I was in school". I got away with it because schools didn't call home and check up on kids. They were happy if they got a note the next day with the excuse. They just didn't know that I learned to forge my mom's handwriting / signature!!

Now that I'm a mom, I'm glad the schools do this. My poor kids will never get away with what I did!

I am so glad your DD was found safe and sound and that she was being good, though! I would have had a heart attack if I got that call.

ckepi 02-04-2008 02:04 PM

Oh Kicker how scary! I'm glad it turned out to be a mistake though!

DM 02-04-2008 02:17 PM

Glad your DD is ok, Kick!! Guess what? No matter how old your kid's get, you never ever stop worrying about them.

*I hate phone calls like that, too!*

prettypearlgirl 02-05-2008 01:12 AM

Glad she was really there! When my kids were in school, the school refused to call any parents if the kids were absent. I'm glad that trend has changed!

Carolyn:hug:

Glad everything turned out fine. How scary!

DD17 did this to me once. She took the bus so I know she got to school as her sister did too. But in checking her attendance, she was not there! I kept calling and calling her cell phone. I was both worried and angry. I had DBF call her from his work as she wouldn't recognize his number. He called and she answered right away. He asked her what she was doing and she, very casually, told him she was at Target! He asked why she didn't go to school and she told him she didn't feel like going. (Ok, so she's not the sharpest butter knife in the drawer. LOL). He told her she better call me as I was very worried and upset. Needless to say, she was GROUNDED and I made an attendance sheet up and she had to have all teachers sign it stating she was in class and she had to return it to both the school counselor and myself - EVERY DAY for 4 weeks.

weegot5kiz 02-05-2008 08:48 PM
