MS hug????!!!

This morning I woke up with what I thought was just an achy back. Now, I feel like my ribcage in the back area, wrapping part way around the front, is being squeezed unbelievably tight. It hurts when I breathe and it hurts to the touch. I haven't experienced this before.:(

It really hurts. I see the neuro tomorrow. What do I do until then? BTW, I'm in a relapse and I've already done the 'roids.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks, M. It is actually so bad that I'm gonna call the neuro now. I'm not usually a big baby about pain, but dang, this is awful:eek:.

Let us know what he/she says.
I'm so sorry it hurts so much. Sorry I can't help.

I called. They said to go to the er. I really don't want to call my husband at work and have him come home, yet again. I took a Zanaflex. I doubt that is gonna cut it.

let's give it a half hour... or an hour.... can you go lay down quiet for 5 or 10 mins?

you'll know soon whether it is getting worse or better.... maybe let that be an indicator to go to er??

dotcha just hate this danged "everything is a mystery, i could be ok or dying, so let's rule out all the things that would kill me first..." disease?!

What if you call your DH and tell him what the Dr said and that you don't want to go to the ER just yet, maybe he can just leave work a little early if the pain is still bad this afternoon.

I'm gonna go lay down and see what happens. I really HATE the hospital and they really hate me, not laughing out loud it hurts.

I hate everything about this disease. Thanks you two!

J. I hope you're OK. I was going to call you but I won't now - don't want you to have to get up and answer the phone! But call me if you want to talk - I have not had the MS hug as you describe it - I've had pain but not unbearable. Maybe if you call your hubby he will make the decision himself to come on home and be there if you decide to take a trip to the ER.

ania 02-04-2008 01:28 PM

ohhh, that hug can hurt and be scary. Lie down and rest and if it doesn't get better, follow you Dr. instructions. Call DH and tell him you might need a ride to the hospital.

thinking of you today :heartthrob:

Feeling any better Joelle, did you go to the ER? Thinking of you also.

Jodylee 02-04-2008 09:32 PM

Thanks for all the support eveyone! I really need it. My hubby made the decision for me. I spent the last 7 hours at the er getting shot full of dilaudid. I feel like I'm gonna hurl but it sure helps with the pain. They had to rule out any other cause than MS for the pain. It's the 'hug'. I knew that already but they gotta make sure. They sent me on my merry way with a scrip for lorcet (?) and told me to be sure to take it every 5-6 hours until I see my neuro tomorrow. Thanks so much again.

Glad you have gotten at least some temporary relief and i hope your neuro can help you!

A few times i have had an awful pain that sort of starts in my lower back but feels like it cuts right through me at waist level then goes down across the front of my legs- kind of like where a very long apron when go if you were sitting down ( if that makes sense)- it is really nasty pain and i believe it is more like a nerve pain and i do not usually have lower back problems- is this possibly the hug??

Thanks for your support, K. It could be the hug, this was my first experience with it. It definitely feels entirely different than any other type of back pain. I'd talk to your neuro about it the next time time it strikes. Hopefully, it doesn't!

Kitty 02-05-2008 08:38 AM

So glad you got to go to the ER - happy you're home now, too! I hope you get to feeling better....this disease just sucks sometimes, doesn't it? You never know what you're gonna get day to day....

momXseven 02-05-2008 08:57 AM

Glad you got something to help with the pain. Hope it's completely gone soon.

FinLady 02-05-2008 09:41 AM

 Glad you got some help for the pain. Hope your neuro can help you with this too.
