Massive storms...everyone check in....

I was freaked out last night........
We had some really serious storms move through last night.....I was home alone (I HATE STORMS)
DD was at her school at a bball game. I was calling her every 10 minutes freakin out....untill the fire department showed up there and issues everyone to the basment in the locker rooms for 45 minutes.
I had no TV or computer........and the radio said "tonadic storm in Myrtle MO....People in Myrtle take cover NOW.......... THATS WHERE DD'S SCHOOL IS....Plus she still had to drive home alone when it was all over.........

Needlees too say I was a mess.......

And knowing I had froends who were in the southern regions of the storm (DAY how did you all fair?) and then it touched down in two places here in MO near us and then went acoss Tenn causing major trouble all throughout.......

There are several on here from those areas..........

PLEASE CHECK IN IF YOU CAN.............

One little town in Ark. called Ash Flat....was beat up pretty bad.
The closed all the roads comming in to the town. They had power lines down and gas leaks. The airevac set up in a church parking lot to help those in need of medical attention. The nearby hospital was calling for any and all staff to report to the hospital....they needed help for the injured. A local church was opening the doors to those who needed shelter.....it was so sad..

It was only about 1hr and 10 minutes from me......I just kept thinking bout all the people who were standing there going "OMG....what just happend and what are we going to do now."

And in the midst of all that I still keep worring bout my MS buddies.....

Hope to hear from you all today!!!!!

and I am sending major prayers and hugs out to all the folks affect by last nights storms.....

Riverwild 02-06-2008 08:41 AM

I have been watching the national news and it looks like a lot of folks down there got it pretty bad.:(

It sounds like we are going to get it here today and tonight, but ours is going to be snow.

They are saying more is coming Kay, so be careful and keep the weather radio on!!

Hope all our board members made it through OK!! Check in kids!

FlyFishin Momma 02-06-2008 08:48 AM

They just reported *69* tonados in Ark, SE MO, and Tenn last night.....
it is now headed to Georgia, and the Carolinas......
Oh man even more board buds will be effected before this is over I am afraid.....

Yeah RW we have snow forcasted now.
Yesterday it was 83 here....I had doors and windows open until the winds picked up.........today its 38.....crazy ...crazy weather.

(hit the gro store for plenty of stock up items RW!)

braingonebad 02-06-2008 08:53 AM

I heard there had been storms, but not the full extent. I hope you're all okay!

The ones this time of year are so unpredictable. We just had the 30 yr anniversary of the Ohio blizzard. Which started with high temps and a T storm.

We ahd T storms last 2 nights. Dh went to work and found the roof of one of the shantys had been blown off - it was found at the airport. Car carriers had been blown right off a train. Now that's wind.

snoodles 02-06-2008 08:54 AM

It is hitting us (Knoxville, TN) right now. I emailed the office and told them that I would be working from home today.

We are in a severe thunderstorm warning and tornado watch right now and the watches until 7:00 pm tonight... They broke into the national news this morning a couple of times asking people to stay put until this line of storms get through and warned that more are coming. :(

Glad you all are OK, that must have been really awful worrying about your daughter - I would have been climbing the walls !!!

River - stay warm and dry - I can remember getting caught out on the river when a sudden afternoon storm came up while kayaking -- with nowhere to go, that is my worst storm memory !!!! --- - hope you don't have similar memories !!! Talk about feeling like a paddling duck / lightning strike target - that is what we felt like !!!

Will be watching for others to check in.... :grouphug:

suzyqz_2007 02-06-2008 08:54 AM

I'm so glad to hear you are alright. My mom just called, (she lives south of Nashville near the Alabama border) to let me know she is okay and only minor wind damage around her. Took a while to get a call through but my brother and his wife (they live almost in Nashville) are okay too. I used to live about 25 miles from where the gas explosion happened and know quite a few people from that area. I've been watching the news websites this morning and it is just awful. There is one road that is completely blocked because of a house sitting in the middle of it. They don't know where it came from!
My prayers are with everyone who have been effected by these terrible storms.

Stay Safe :grouphug:
Susan

FlyFishin Momma 02-06-2008 09:00 AM

I cannot get away from the weather Chanell on the tv.its telling about the damage from last night and where its heading next and I know of so many folks that are in both areas...
where it has been and where its going..........

Wish I had more phone numbers..........I would be callin folks right now..........

Why did God make me such a worry wort?????

Snoodles hun....keep your head low!!!!! that lightenin here was very scarry....it ran in on my phone lines and made them ring several times......

Suz....Thank God your fam is okay!!!! Thanks for the report of some good news!!!!!!

suzyqz_2007 02-06-2008 09:09 AM

If anyone is interested the Nashville news stations are WTVF, WKRN and WSMV. You can go to their websites and see reports of the storm damage in Tennessee.

:grouphug:

greta 02-06-2008 10:03 AM

70+ and beautifully sunny right now. Should start storming this afternoon. Guess that means the roofers won't be coming out on Thurs as planned...:(

tkrik 02-06-2008 10:07 AM

I am certainly praying for all of those in the storm's path.

Hoping everyone checks in and lets us know that they are OK.

FFM - I would be a wreck!!!! I am glad all worked out OK and everyone is fine.

GIGI69 02-06-2008 10:50 AM

I was thinking about you all last night

Glad to hear from folks in that part of the country. Living in a hurricane prone area I know how difficult it is to go through natural disasters. Thanks for checking in guys.

DAY1 02-06-2008 10:50 AM

I'm fine. We were very blessed in that it missed us. We got one strong storm with wind, rain and hail, but it was very short lived with no tornadoes.

The news is reporting 16 tornadoes touched down in the state yesterday.
This all started about 4:00pm yesterday. Atkins got hit really bad. Clinton also.

The news was saying the last time we had storms this deadly was in 1999.
We have had storms with more tornadoes, but they didn't cause the destruction and deaths like these did.

It was crazy in this house last night.
The tornadoes had me on edge. THen the reports started coming in. It was non stop coverage from 4pm to 11pm of weather.

I was so nervous and upset. Then the phone rings and it's my nephew asking me if I am ready to be a Great Aunt.
OMG, I was so excited and happy. The doctors told them they would never get pregnant. She's 7 weeks along.

Then the death tolls started coming in and pictures of the destruction. So I was back down.

My electric had gone out while talking to my nephew, so I lost the phone connection. DH called him back. Then I was all excited again.

DH called to check on his parents. While on the phone with them, they tell him that his Aunt called and her husband had left her again. This is the most sweetest woman in the world. She is completely devestated.

So then I was back down again and worried about the Aunt.

By the time I went to bed, I had a horrible sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Unable to sleep because of WAY too much going on.

Got up this morning to see all the destruction in the other states. It is so sad.

Kay, I'm glad your daughter was ok. I was glad my family was all home last night. I'm with you. I hate storms. I am scared to death of them.
I want a storm shelter soooooo bad.

DAY

FlyFishin Momma 02-06-2008 11:00 AM

Day,
I live in a moble home so I get pretty freaked out and often go next door to my MIL's basment if it gets to bad........but last night when the wind was blowing so hard and the hail hit I was afraid to go next door and not be here if Sissy called......I just wanted to go get her and make sure she was home safe with me...........

She called from school and said the roof of one of the outter buildings was blown off into a nearby field....it happend last night while they were all in the basment of the gym and no one even knew it until daylight this morning........

God was watching out for them............

DM 02-06-2008 11:05 AM

We are having a major blizzard right now. I live on a major hwy and you can't even see where the road is. Hope everyone is safe AND

FinLady 02-06-2008 11:08 AM

I hope everyone is ok. Been watching the news.

In central Ohio. We have a flood watch due to rain and warm weather. It's supposed to change tonight into snow, which probably means ice tomorrow. :(
:grouphug:

Curious 02-06-2008 11:08 AM

sending lots of prayers.

i'm in the dfw area. it missed us, besides some hail. the temperature went from the 70's to the 30's.

here is the weather channel website:

http://www.weather.com/

Chris 02-06-2008 11:12 AM

We are under a Tornado Watch until 1400 this afternoon. It was raining quite heavily before, but has subsided for now. I had so much to do today as it is my day off, but I don't want to be out in this weather.:( I hope everyone else in the storm's path is well protected and will continue to check in. My husband said not to be surprised if we lost electricity at some point, so I may not be able to check in later due to fallen phone lines (we have DSL).

Stay safe, you lot!

sugarboo 02-06-2008 11:15 AM

I'm watching the news right now---OMG!!! What on earth is going on? I've never lived in tornado country, but.....isn't it too soon for tornados? I thought tornados were a 'spring' type storm???

Global warming? I know we are doing our part here to help stop it (-10 right now) but not helping!!! These terrible storms over the past few years (earthquakes and tsunami's too) are scary!!!

I know we are overdue for a big earthquake....

Prayers and hugs for all my southern friends!!!!!

sugarboo 02-06-2008 11:34 AM

We can drop 10 degree's in ten minutes....but that's just crazy!!!

karousel 02-06-2008 11:40 AM

Wow, that is some weather everyone is having! And people around here are complaining because it's raining. :nopity: I hope everyone stays safe. :)

Glad your OK, snoodles, was thinking about you this morning. My part of town is fairly OK, my yard is full of big tree limbs. My daughter is in the Carolinas, so now time to worry about her!

duvabw 02-06-2008 12:14 PM

Weather was very scary lastnight! (felt like a bad repeat of last Tuesday)

Schools are closed here (roofs ripped off of some and no power at many). So far 7 deaths reported. Lots of damage.

We were very blessed, our power is back on this morning and only gutters damaged, tree limbs blown around etc.

Hope everyone's safe and will check in when they can.

snoodles 02-06-2008 12:58 PM

Thank you for thinking of me Marcia,

Yes, I woke to all the rain and the warnings on TV and my emergency weather alerter thingy was screaching at me - so I decided to work from home but now - all is fine. I think we have been lucky. :)

I did go outside to check on my little pond fish to make sure they hadn't washed right out of their pond !!! They are fine - the pond is pretty deep in the center and they are all just sitting down at the bottom.

The extremes in temperatures are amazing !!!

SandyC 02-06-2008 01:16 PM

My mom and sister are safe thank God. My mom called sissy at 3am to tell her to get in the storm shelter. The tornado was just down the road from her. The worse damage by sissy was about an hour from Huntsville Alabama.

Susan, my mom is in Fayetteville TN, where does yours live?

I hope everyone is safe. I was thinking about Pickles when I saw Memphis, Tkrik, TwoKidsTwoCats (Pam) when it hit near Toney Alabama, ...so many! I pray they are OK.

We are getting buried under tons of snow right now. Daisy, hang on, we may have to dig a tunnel.

weegot5kiz 02-06-2008 01:20 PM

Wow! Your mom is in Fayetteville? Small world....ever hear of Pulaski? That is where my mom is. I lived there a few years while helping her take care of my father before he passed away. I graduated from Martin Methodist College.

Teehee, we were looking at houses to buy in Pulaski! It is a small world!

Momma's Kids 02-06-2008 01:31 PM

Chris, I notice you are also a Ga Gal...I live in Toombs, how far away are you?

I've met some of our board buddies(MSW) over the years and will be going to NC in March to visit one that is no longer on the boards.

I still keep in contact with a few that don't post any longer...

The wind is blowing here but the sun is still shining...we are supposed to get rain by nightfall. The wind has blown all my windchimes all over the place...I have two that are wind proof and they have been chiming all day. lol

MooseasaurusRex 02-06-2008 01:35 PM

I'm glad my board buddies are OK.:grouphug:

Really? Usually the first thing someone says to me is where the h*&& is Pulaski? LOL It's a beautiful area there and I miss the quietness of it. Still trying to get used to Houston!

I couldn't believe this, I was watching the news this morning (I wasn't fully awake so I didn't catch where this was, not here in TX) but the reporter showed us the front steps were untouched, the door mat was even still there and the wind chimes were still hanging from the porch roof but the WHOLE mobile home was gone.
There was a women inside when the tornado hit and she was in the hospital.

I do hope everyone in the path of the storms are ok. Prayers coming for everyone.

You had hail? I didn't see any here, well that's TX's odd weather for ya.
It was SO nice yesterday morning until the winds picked up and temp plummeted.

SandyC 02-06-2008 01:54 PM

I saw a report on a man, woman and their child in a SUV. The tornado picked them up and set them on the other side of the road. Scary!

Just getting a chance to check in... No damage here, except for lack of sleep! Our weather alert radio got a real workout last night. Today it's around 70, windy and sunny in north AL! You'd think it was kite weather out there today.
