Calling in Sick
Cyc (Psych) is calling in cyc (sick) to the forum today.
I have the predictable result of painting my bedroom over the weekend. 48 hours after any repetitive work, I get these, for lack of a better word, migraines....but they are not migraines....it some gigantic spasm of my head, face, neck, shoulder, upper back, chest and arm, usually one sided..They tend to make me grumpy, so the best thing to do is shut the blinds, take my 'medicine' and as I do in this neck of the woods, get under 3 quilts, 6 pillows and a yellow dog. (It has to be the yellow one, the other two don't work). Oh and get a bucket near the bed. We just made the news on the weather channel for breaking the all time record for snow for our area......77 inches and counting....if you live in the mountains or in Buffalo NY, this isn't a big deal, you get that much....it is a bit much for us....altho, not unheard of. In the last 15 years our winters have been relatively mild, which made this disease tolerable..... I thought perhaps global warming had set in to stay and that this area would take on the climate of Arkansas or Kansas in my lifetime....I guess not. I was even contemplating relocating to Greenland....you know, where it is getting 'green'. Forget it....I think the new ice age has set in due to the Altantic Conveyer belt failing. At least we did not break the record for cold yet....please God do not let this be the year we do that too. I do not live in International Falls, nor in MN in general, they are my neighbors....gophers and badgers have a nice friendly rivalry....thought I would share this with you guys as they are not having a particularly easy time of things either. It gives those of you who are fortunate enough to live south of a line thru Chicago an idea how exponentially worse it gets with each 50 mile north increment....I don't know why it works that way. In the mountains it seems to be every 1,000 feet up you get to a whole new climate range..... Now I would not do well with earthquakes, nor week after week of over 100 degree temps either, so no region has the corner on crummy climate...everybody seems to suffer at one time of the year or another. Anyway, the walls are starting to talk to me now, so I am headed back to my cavern....I always recover to see a new day. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080212/...s/cold_weather Have a good day....I gotta go find my yellow dog and bucket. Quick. |
Feel Better
and stay warm! And take it easy on the painting - sounds like your body is doing a PN "you did too much" kick in the b#$$!
:) |
Cyclelops, sounds like you overdid it with the painting. My sisters and I joke that our family motto is "Excess is best" -- we always over-exercise, over-spend, over-eat, etc. Take it easy if you can. The yellow dog sounds like a good homeopathic remedy. And I can't imagine living in your weather...it was 70 degrees here today. But you are right -- in the summer we have to stay in our air-conditioned caves!
|
Reading about that cold makes me hurt.I am sorry you are feeling ill. That seems like a lot of work for a person without pain issues. What color is it?Take care and hope you are soaking in a nice bubble bath with coco and tiny marshmellows or hopping on a plane to a warm island. Ahh that sounds soothing.
|
Yes
Sounds like the PN, oh why did I do that, also when like when i lived in
Northern Mi. let alone anywhere in Mi. But it is so cold in Mo. that darn frostt bite cold. No more painting when your yellow dog is hiding in the bed while your looking for her-him,no matter get better.. Did you paint you bedroom a warm color..I've been putting off calling the guy who does mine, also the guy who puts down my carpet, my wood floors, forget the wallpaper with that Picc in my pit. Get better C. Not sure why my son wants to live in Mn. oh yes his pretty wife...Hugs to your head Sue |
Cyclelops.....
I buy you books and all you do is eat the covers!!!! I don't know what in the world made you think you could paint a room. Good Grief Girl! You are fragile right now and I know this effort has taken a great toll. But I think I of everyone can understand the urges that made you do this.
Now..be very very kind to yourself for a few days. It's a tiny bit like making a 100 mile ride to the doctor, then talking your husband into stopping for lunch, then talking him into stopping at my jewelry suppliers store and shopping for new things, husband waiting in the car with his newspaper. I was to call his cellphone and have him drive down the hill to pick me up. The handicapped parking in the front of the place was filled. So I call him and the cell phone isn't turned on. I walk up the hill and climb 40 steps to the parking lot. Then last night it stormed and I have to sleep on the couch with my little dog who is terrified of storms. (don't ask, long story) Now I'm wondering why I can't move today. And my Indomethacin is being stopped for the next two weeks to prepare for the eye surgery. I have a tiny image of how you are suffering. Keep the fumes away from you. Vent it or something. I know it's much too cold to open the windows. And please no more painting until Spring. It's all Glenn's fault for telling you to run naked with the wolves. You couldn't find wolves so you tackled paint. Good Grief Charlie Brown. Billye:p |

|
Thank you all well wishers, but I never stay down for long.....heh, heh. It wasn't the fumes...it was me...I am not 'right'.
Sorry about the book covers Billye....can't help it....I am a bad dog. And yes, let's blame Glenn...it was all his idea...the wolves were his idea...:D so was the tongue and the mailbox... Which incidentally I decided against, as I thought the EMS might get mad given all the snow and stuff...didn't want them to call out the plow first... which on occassion they have to do...I figured if the plow came first, the mailbox would be gone, and I would be with all the other roadkill, down the road, in the neighbor's driveway...along with empty bottles of our 'official state beverage'....and my neighbor would be out there looking to see if there was anything left in the bottles. (It's ok Glenn....I won't hold any of this against you.) This kind of 'episode' has been happening for 20 years or so....any repetitive motion brings this on....if I have no 'good stuff' at home I have to hit the ER...or if it lasts 3 days, I have to go to the ER because I dehydrate. I don't throw up, I erupt. I can hit a target 10 feet away. I am the artillery of vomitting. If I go to the ER, they always give me that little basin and I say, "You have got to be kidding, bring me the tub thing, that stack of paper towels, and 'CLEAR'." For a week afterwards I have a 6 pack....my abs...LOL. Of course, I can't move I am so sore. I could hit a target 10 feet away....I aim for the smiley faced pain scale....number '10' in English 'Worst Pain Ever'....in Spanish, something about 'dolor'...anyway, the red faced guy that looks distressed, I aim for him. They come running back with the 'anti-emetic' while some poor nurse stands downwind and tries to get an IV in....After they get the anti-puke drug in I get the good stuff....see, no one wants to clean up the track to Mr. Smiley face pain scale. ( I don't blame them---once I got this after having chile) They started me on Baclofen (oral-obvioulsy)....so far so good....amazing how it takes down the spasms....even my feet ones, which have nothing to do with painting...I am good, but not that good. Baclofen working on this, is interesting and perhaps a bit diagnostic. However, Baclofen does enhance other meds, so, right now, even Darvon makes me loopy....gotta watch what I take and when...it is wearing off a bit, now, so, I suppose I will have to take something substantial before tonight. As far as fragile, Billye, 'Fragile' is in my china cabinet, and just sits there looking pretty. I am 'cute', but my looks won't carry me far anymore...add my medical problems and I don't think I would have a dating pool if I were ever single. One look in the linen closet and if the guy didn't run, he would be a keeper....or else kinky.....well, luckily, I am not in the dating pool....I could fool the unsuspecting fella....not many folks with what ever in the heck I got, go running with wolves, nor painting 'Ostrich Feather' on their walls. Since I do not know for sure what it is I have, I can do this stuff.....PN is not enough of a reason not to paint....nor run semiclothed with raw meat strapped to my behind and run with wolves. I am far to cantakerous and ADHD to ever be fragile...I will go out running with wolves, or the mountain lion, which we really do have here....official DNR press release. I knew I saw one in 1990, and they all told us we were nuts....NOW, NOW we have one...they even tested the urine...yep, mountain lion...we have no mountains, so I don't know why he likes it here...must be good eatin'. Must hit the dumpsters on Friday nights after Fish Fries. I did see a wolf, twice, same place up north of here about 100 miles....where we used to live......saw him twice, same place and same time, 5am on my way to MN. Coyotes were out last week....in force.... my dogs were out at the same time, doing duty, and the dumb things didn't even see them and they were inside my lot line...prints were still there (no more---not after that last big snow---looks more like the dunes at the beach).... Hubby saw them (he sees everything out there--my son has his vision, which brought him home alive from Iraq---they even asked him if he wanted to be a sniper---he said 'no'), Anyway hubby ran out there, apparently unafraid of coyotes, because, 'yellow dog' didn't come back and was out of visual range in the dark....so he went running out to rescue her...the dopey boy dogs sat there all foamy and drooling for a bone because they did their duty. I have underground electrical fencing for dogs, so I dont have to worry....my dogs go nowhere. They are hunting coyotes lately, so they are running all over. They must have decided to migrate to the woods near us...Yellow dog was fine, she came back....she just wanted privacy to go. At times I think she shares my issues. We are under an uncharacteristically deep blanket of snow...going on 80 plus inches for the year, and our big snow month is March....gee can hardly wait...more coming tomorrow, plus a 3 dog night predicted tomorrow night. I dunno, somewhere in the actual temp of -10 range. Our lowest ever was an unofficial -60 actual temp in Rice Lake, WI....the official was a bit warmer, but I believe Rice Lake. Hasn't gotten that cold in decades, and likely won't unless the Atlantic Conveyor stops due to Greenland glaciers melting.... Boy I would love to be an archeologist in Greenland....it once supported 22 churches and a cathedral...back in the day, around the year 1000AD. Bob---what is wrong with your friend......83 degree's cold??? Send me his pic, next time I get sick, and I will aim for IT. Oh, and the quote for the day, which we all endeavor to live by: Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat. Theodore Roosevelt 26th president of US (1858 - 1919) Picture me with my paint roller riding a bike and toting a can of 'Ostrich Feather' Dutch Boy....:o On second thought....don't. Thanks for all your concerns....you can see, I survived with only minimal brain damage.:D |
Hey, at times like these...
folks who live in warm climes ALWAYS tell you how wonderful it is there! Except in the summer, ever notice that?
Always blame all 'lapses' on the meds...it's a legitimate excuse. Very legit. As for the 'womiting'? As Grommit would say...I'd aim for their shoes! That way you leave a lasting souvenier and good memory! I don't know but it's probably better than it coming out elsewhere - You would have to ask Kmeb about that issue. Here, weatherwise? Had to go out for the annual Dexa test...Warming up the car...Ice 1/2-1/2" on all windows. YUCK! Surprised I'd gotten the key in the door and the beast started....did the 'lever' for the electric windows and whad'ya know? I had another window? OF ICE! Kind of therapeutic to KNOCK it all out! Our weather twidgies here got it all WRONG for our forecast! Got about 1/2" ice where none should be...supposed to get rain. I'd be running around screaming in frustrations too at this time, IF: a] I could run, and b] It wasn't do danged slippy slidey! I do believe the weather gods wherever they may be are taking revenge on us for something...sure wish I knew what.. However, we did have a whole 'flock' of robins here late last week! Hope they aren't icicles somewhere now..this is super early for them! TROPICAL THOUGHTS TO ALL!!!! - j |
Wow! That is something. I would LOVE to see all of that snow... I miss it sooo much... I know... I know... I am not shoveling it now... :) Well, I did miss it when my Dad was shoveling it... Not telling age here, but those were in the days when girls could not wear jeans or slacks to school, when you were freezing to death...
A couple of items here possibly worth questioning... About Glenn... I know I have missed reading some posts, and am having a, eh, somewhat hard time tying together wolves, a tongue and a mailbox... Maybe I shouldn't even ask about this one... :) And then we have Billye: "Then last night it stormed and I have to sleep on the couch with my little dog who is terrified of storms. (don't ask, long story)" Now this would be an interesting subject. Are we not supposed to ask about why hubby made you sleep on the couch, or why your little dog is terrified of storms... :) Ahhh... Deep in the heart of Texas, it is 56 degrees here, the sun is shining, I wish I were somewhere laying out in the sun, but my bathing suit swore it would leave home, if I ever tried to cram myself into it again... Maybe Bob's friend will invite us all down for a PN recovery week... You guys better take it easy. You know you are going to PAY tomorrow... Cathie |
Yes, I heard DC got ice....nothing like a good ice storm...
I hear a prominent DC official hit the pavement...I guess he figured you could walk on ice...that scares me. |
BTW Billye....if you did all that stuff yesterday...YOU can't lecture me.....:D You are just as bad of a doggie as I am....you are as tough of a coot as I am.:p Should we blame Glenn for your issues too???:D Why not.....We have really pummelled the poor guy, and he is such a good egg.....Glenn....we do this cuz we know you can take it.

Oh Kkkkknow
I really think we are all going nutz! I'm so cold I've got on pj's, fleecy robe and arm and hand warmers. The temp is hovering at about 60-63 degrees. The heat's not running as a result of the similarity in the indoor and outdoor temp. I'm wearing sandals and no socks tho. Can't stand shoes.
I've noticed a thread of thought all thru the different forums that tell me the winter weather is getting to all of us. And frankly Cycleops, I'm worried about you. Sleeping with my dog? She's a chihuahua wih a terrible fear of storms. They call it "storm hysteria". We have a memory foam mattress and she has short bristly hair that sticks into the mattress. I also have 2 more of the chi's. (yeah, I know insane!) The house is divided in half with our living room, bedrooms and baths on one side of a half door and the dogs half of the house on the other side. They all sleep on a leather loveseat but.. When it storms, she sits and chirps loudly,..frantically on her side of the door. My husband isn't good enough, she's got to have her "mama", nothing stops her. As soon as I bed down on the couch in her half of the house, she gives a huge rattling sigh and goes to sleep with me. I told you not to ask. yeah..I'm nutz too. Billye |
Kick up the thermostat and curse the Saudi king....why not?
My yellow dog is bigger than your three dogs combined....you need a yellow dog...nice chubby fat yellow lab.....body heat. You know the Inuit measure temperature by the number of dogs needed to sleep with at night to keep one warm....hence, three dog night. Tomorrow night is a three dog night (-30 with windchill, I do not know what the real temp will be, I suppose -10 or so)....but, the dog has to be at least 50 pounds to do much good.....the less bony the better. My yellow dog snores.....she is the lady, but she snores....my 95 pounder is a silver lab and he is a mama's boy....he cries if he can't come in the room....junior is their progeny and bony....the runt...... lately we are trying to train them not to come in, because they have to go to the kennel in May, and he might just have a nervous breakdown due to serious separation anxiety. Separation anxiety in a dog that huge is not a pretty thing. |
HA Ha, boy that oh boy went down,we still have my Grannies ice shoes.
She lived high up on a hill. When I went down the hill,we would get out early and my brother and I try to go down the hill on our sledes, We would always end up in those high drain ditches..Grannie would come down find us crying. She would have a flyswatter and ice shoes and bandaids just in case..On with the shoes and out of her apron nice warm bisquits.yum yum ,then get on up tp that house do you want to kill yourself??? We were eating and crying, because everytime she fussed she would hit us in the but with the flyswatter, but those bisguits and that home made jam hmmm heaven.Everybody parked there cars if they hand one, down at the bottom of the hill, they would take the City bus to the Shoe factory, then along came the school buses,we had to sit on ice to chance shoes ,no ice shoes on the bus,I couldn't wait to get on the bus, hoped there would be a seat,it was hard for the girls to get up outside, buts would be stuck to to the ice covered sidewalk, but I always got a seat,my brother saved me one. And all the way to the school my but would defrost..Then we moved to Mi. Mom lied said we would love how warm it was going to be. Oh sure no schoolbuses ,no warm bisquits just frozen legs ,and listening to the music all night,we lived over a Polish dance hall. I had to get my picc cleaned and fooled whith today, A poor old lady could't hold it coming through the door she had a walker and a massive amount of Diahrhea with hit the floor and Bob's new shoes, She started to cry and good old Bob in his loud voice said ahhh don't worry Sue over there does that all the time..I'm thinking I do what???But there was, never mind....Anyway I was thinking of doing my own painting, but I changed my mind..Good old Bob is cleaning his shoes, lucky guy he can't smell to well. Feel better C,get some rest, back to dentist Friday, hide me...:eek::eek: Hugs to all Sue |
Stuff
Cyclops - duh - never knew where the band 3 Dog Night got their name - learned something today! A friend has two big fat (overweight) labs - one is 120 lbs - and loves to lay right on top of a person as they lay on the couch - its impossible to move unless she decides to get up... but they are great dogs....
Weather does seem to be relative to what we are used too - to me its the only part of the year here that is really bearable - I melt at about 65 and above - and with summers going for days over 105 or so - I'll take the cold any day and trade you guys! SS - used to get chased around with a flyswat too - was supposed to be a punishment but it just made up kids giggle and got us in more trouble - not really an effective way to instill discilpline is it? Billye - you know I'd do anything for my critter - dont blame you for keeping your little mop cozy! Dahlek - should we send a sledge hammer???? Sounds like fun (NOT)...... Oh, and Mrs D - just make sure your mailman is a happy camper at the holidays!!!!! Stay warm/cool/safe everyone..... |
You guys are hilarious... And you have to love that Bob trying to make the poor old lady feel better... Poor thing... Boy, he is quick with the words... Bet you had a hard time keeping a straight face, SS...
Billye: We have divisions here in our house for our 3 Yorkies too... 3 Yorkies times 4 pounds=12 pounds of dogs... It works like this. We have a king size bed. They take their half out of the middle... Guess we are all nutz... Cathie |
Kmeb: Hi, how are you (and everybody), doing??
Just got this off of the 3 Dog Night's official website: "Originally brought together in 1968 by Danny Hutton and Cory Wells, the group was enormously successful from the start. Hutton, who had graduated from loading and unloading records at the Disney studio to recording as a solo artist, met Cory Wells while he was touring with Sonny and Cher. The now-famous name came from a story about Australian aborigines who, on cold nights in the outback, sleep with their dogs for warmth. The coldest evenings are known as "three dog nights"" So now you all know officially how their name came to be. I STILL REMEMBER, "JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROG" (from Joy to the World) And Creedence Clearwater did their own version too. Just saw it on youtube. I wish I would have went to Woodstock. I would have had a ball!! |
Melody
Hi - I'm doing ok thanks... currently being circled like a shark by my four legged creature looking for attention.... 3 Dog Night was one of the first "real" concerts I went too - hate to say - but I think they had one hit which they must have played at least 3 times - and as the name implies - put us to sleep with the rest of it! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz:eek:
|
Kmeb:
Would you like to know who I saw in Concert??? 40 years ago?? and I remember it like it was yesterday. I believe it was at the Fillmore East in NYC. I saw SANTANA!!! I will never forget this because my girlfriend Loretta stood up on a chair and shouted. "this is better than sex".. And since I didn't know what she was talking about, I remember thinking. "wow, Santana is BETTER than sex??" Ah, the memories. Sometimes you just gotta remember the GOOD STUFF, right?? Ah, youth!!! |
That is hysterical....Santana brings back memories of sex. "Black magic woman".....and 'Evil Ways'
and my husband's old dorm room for some reason..hmmmm.... (God can I say this on here??? I am perpetually getting in trouble for what I say.) I may have to edit this..... I have been married a very long time.....35 years this year. Maybe I should go get a CD....afterall it is Valentine's Day....maybe it will jog my husband's memory....It will have to be a reverie....as reality 'aint' what it used to be. He knows what I have in my linen closet. I saw 'America' this year....they were fabulous. Way long ago, I saw, Jethro Tull, LOL....barely thru the smoke. |
"He knows what I have in my linen closet."
Hunh ?? Is this a secret, or don't we want to know? |
Cyclps and Nide
I dont think we do want to "know"! I have a friend who went to a Jethro Tull concert once and still insists its a person - not a group! To this day! Think they enjoyed themselves?
|
Bob
You missed my so called 'rant' on the depression thread....in there....is a reference to the mysterious contents of my linen closet....you have to read it in context....or you would think I am weird. Eh, you will think I am wierd anyway.:o To those of you following this saga..... I found out today, that Baclofen, will not allow me to do the work out I used to put my most feeble clients thru:o---and have them come back for more....I am not in as bad of a shape as the day I called in sick.... today, I feel caught in a 'Chinese Handcuff'....some of us know what that is...feel free to chime in. My Chinese handcuff has little teeny tiny hairs in it....and seems to be in all kinds of wierd places....including my mouth... I will not have my former physique by May, I have a big event in May....I thought just maybe, I could have some 'definition' by May....forget it...I am worse than a cardiac rehab case right now....and would inspire an exercise professional just about as much. (not):( I took an extra Baclofen thinking just maybe part of this syndrome was being aggravated by muscular pain....it is not...not that what I did would not do that in a normal 50 some year old person--- produce a bit of muscle soreness....it would.... THAT is not my issue...my nerves or or spinal cord or something is very unhappy right now...I am quite happy that at least the Baclofen is keeping me from aiming my 'artillery' at Mr. Pain. It is trying, but the meds are keeping it in the 'bunker'. My body is happiest lying totally still....it is trying to tell me something and I do not really want to hear this. I am determined to right this heap of adipose tissue and bone....there has to be a functioning muscle that won't spaz and a nerve that works without exacting this kind of revenge for even the most feeble attempt to work it into shape. Maybe I am just whining....:( |
What's driving me, my sinuses, and other body parts nuts is that the weather here can't make up it's mind. We go from being in the 60's to suddenly being down in the 20's at night. From sunny to suddenly cloudy and wet or snow/ice/sleet. Bah! *shakes fist at the weather*
I can handle almost any weather if it's fairly constant, if that makes sense. I'm tired of adjusting the heat. |
jarrett,
We must both be on the mid East coast - hunh? Its wacky. This has been a crazy winter, and its not over until the "Ides of March", or so. |

We are ALL
Definitely in the 'WINTER DOLDRUMS'!
I got as a Valentine's day present the following tee: http://www.horsepresence.com/shop/De...Perky1848.html Tis a gift from my DH....Don't you get the impression that he 'understands'? Am not sure if I've the courage to wear it to some docs' offices.... Call me chicken in ways, but at the same time, I'm mentally wearing it? - j |

i called in sick on valentines day with chest pains dizziness and blood pressure of 210/101...spent three days in the hospital and feel like a pin cushion....nothing found wrong....1 minute after doing treadmill stress test my blood pressure was 120/75 ...go figure
|
Uh oh..
Joe,
That sounds like autonomic problems. Have they tested you for this recently? Billye |
Did your BP start at the low reading or drop to the lower reading? I assume you started at the lower reading as they automatically stop a stress test if your BP drops 10 points.
|
this was after the stress test was over and you rest for 15 minutes before getting the imaging done. I dont know what number they got me up to but after completing the test it was back down to 120/75 one minute later, which they told me is very good. They wanted to give me a chemical stress test because of pn but i wanted no part of that so did the treadmill. Autonomic PN no i havent had any of those tests, this never came up before. Maybe pulmonary cause? The day before my numbers were not good for pft.
|
This is beyond me,
We need Glenn's input on this one. I'm not sure what to tell you. I just know that they are watching my blood pressure because it dips and rises. I'm currently taking lisinopril for blood pressure, but it has to be adjusted periodically.
Billye |
they dont know what to tell me either...ideopathic chest pains, at least they didnt try to say it was an anxiety attack. I was joking around with my kids at the time...no stress no anxiety
|
Wow i'm glad that turned out ok,there are a million reasons for that..
You want a big box of chocts and everybody forgot..Hey Joe no more, why???Because we like you... hugs to all Sue Tony you called in sick here sometime ago hope your feeling a wee bit better... |
Glad you are okay, Hey Joe. Same thing happened to my husband about a year ago. Turned out the chest pains responded to treatment for reflux -- indigestion as it used to be known, I guess. Prilosec takes care of it for him.
|
thats one of the things im covering.....glad that your husband was ok
|
There are so many reasons--
--that one can get sudden transient dizziness, shortness of breath, sudden hypertension (or hypotension)--and yes, anxiety/panic attacks and acid reflux are among them (as is reactive hypoglycemia)--that it's hard to speculate. But, knowing something about your history, Joe, it may not be a bad idea to have some further autonomic testing done; you wouldn't be the first neuropathy sufferer to get some out of the blue autonomic problem.
Most of our autonomic functions are controlled through smaller, lightly myelinated/unmyelinated nerve fibers (though there is, of course, a central brain/feedback component to it all--and it's particularly hard to trace just where weird blood pressure readings are originating). I can't remember whether you've ever had the Valsalva tilt table or sudomotor axon relfex testing . . . |
no i havent, im going to look into it thanks
