Do I get my treat now?

My MRI was today, and I'm pleased to tell you that I was very brave .........and I can also report that it was the best MRI that I've ever had. :D

This time it was only my brain and cervical spine that were scanned instead of my brain and entire spinal cord, so I was only in there about an hour.

I mentioned in another thread that I was feeling a bit nervous, because each time I've had an MRI, I've been getting just that little bit more claustrophic. For the very first time I was offered a sedative which I gratefully accepted. It was IV Valium and only 8mgs, but as I'm only 100lbs, it was obviously a big enough dose for me. I didn't go to sleep during the scan ..... I did after I got home :Zzzz: ....but I was certainly relaxed while I the scan was happening. Also this time they used better quality ear phones which-some what drowned out the "machine gun" noise, and I could actually hear my music!

I don't anticipate any major changes, but I did have that exacerbation back in September/October, so it'll be interesting to see if the new films are just the same.

I have a follow up appointment with the neuro in 2 weeks to get the results. I did ask about geting the films on CD but was told a very definite no, because according to the radiographer my neuro doesn't like CDs. Oh well, it was worth a try!

Do I get my treat now? :Excited:

Congratulations on making it through your MRI, Koala! If you're the tiniest bit claustrophobic they can be brutal. I hope your results are good - I like it when they only do the brain or the brain and c-spine. That means less time listening to the woodpecker on the gutter!! :D

Have you decided which treat you want? After my MRI's I tend to want to go somewhere quiet and somewhere there is chocolate! :p

Jodylee 02-13-2008 06:47 AM

I'm so happy for you! You go get yourself whatever treat you want! Personally, I'd want to go and buy a new handbag, LOL! My favorite 'treat'. :D

Mine, too! I had to seriously make an effort NOT to buy anymore! How many handbags can one girl need? Dooney & Bourke - my favorite (unfortunately not practical when you're BROKE!!).

Koala - YOU go buy a D&B bag and enjoy it for me, OK?

karousel 02-13-2008 09:36 AM

Yes you get a treat! Now go get it!!! I am claustrophic and even valium doesn't help me. So I always get a treat afterwards!

AZjanie 02-13-2008 10:59 AM

Is that a hibiscis?

We had them back in Iowa and they had dinner plate sized blooms! Cars would stop in front of the house and everyone wanted to know what is that plant with the huge flowers??

Twinkletoes 02-13-2008 11:08 AM

Koala, you've definitely earn a treat! You were such a big girl and I'm proud of you!!! :) Hope it shows no progression. Keep us posted, K?

FinLady 02-13-2008 11:10 AM

Glad it went so well. You most definitely deserve to treat yourself after that. :)

HSPCraig 02-13-2008 11:45 AM

Koala,

Your treat for being so good for the techs during the test............................is a FREE coupon for "another" MRI!:D

Just kidding! I think your DH should take you out to dinner.

sugarboo 02-13-2008 11:57 AM

You've earned many treats...my treats usually end up being of the chocolate variety!! When do you get the results? Take care of yourself!!!

Bearygood 02-13-2008 12:04 PM

How would you scoot out of the machine? Everytime I've been shoved into the big bangy, magnet they strap me down. (maybe they know I'd crawl out?)

I didnt even realize how bad my claustrophobia was the first time I had an MRI (of the brain) They strapped my head down, and put the big mask thingie over my head. Now I get nightmares of being strapped down like that again.

I think that's what triggered my claustrophobia. Being strapped down with that mask over my face. Spinal MRI's arent as bad, even tho they strapped me down during those too, but the thought of ever having to get another brain MRI scares me to death. Having my head strapped to the table and not being able to move. It's scaring me to just think about it. It's a bigger phobia now than going to the dentist (and my dentist phobia is pretty big)

I'm just glad that my neuro doesnt feel the need to shove me into the giant magnet unless I was having another exacerbation (knock on wood that I dont get another exacerbation for a looooooooong time!)

My regular doctor might be sticking me into the big scary machine for my knee tho. (if the physical therapy doesnt work...it better work!)

If I ever have to get the brain MRI again, I want the good, sleepytime drugs. I dont want to be awake for it.

Thank you for that lovely bird and the beautiful Hibiscus. We had them in our last place, but we moved to a cooler climate around Christmas, and they don't grow down here. I'll miss the Frangipanni and lots of other tropical flowers as well. Roses, Azaleas, Liliums, Dahlias and Rhodadendrums do well here though, so we'll still have plenty of colour.

We had tropical birds at our last house as well, and although they were in the wild, some of them would eat from our hands. They were so lovely, and we had our favourites (which we naturally named) and they'd come day after day to see us......sometimes sitting outside our front door and screeching until we came and sat with them!

I did that last time I bought a new outfit so I can't do that again, but it was a nice thought thank you.

I'm one of those people who rarely buys things for themselves and am very easily pleased. I've always been happier to give than to receive things, so for my treat I decided to do something nice for someone else.

DH took me shopping after my MRI yesterday and I bought something for someone who will get the shock of their life when it arrives in the mail. It definitely wasn't expensive but my joy will last from yesterday when I bought it, right through until it's arrival in a week or two. Each time I think of this person's surprise (and I hope happiness), I'll continue to feel good.

That's the treat I chose.

EDIT : I was so overcome when I read your replies that I didn't even notice there was a page two! Der!!!

Thank you everyone except Craig (only kidding Craig). Your treats look lovely.

CayoKay 02-13-2008 07:30 PM

oooooh!

a MYSTERY!

we wait with bated breath, the arrival of a package, somewhere in the world!

koala,

i'm glad that this test went so well and so hope the results do too.

your treat? a big HUG :D

Curious 02-13-2008 08:31 PM

 i think we all just got caught with goodies by nancy!

braingonebad 02-14-2008 07:59 AM

*I think Koala's sending Craig a ticket for an MRI*

:D

Good luck, sweetie. I hope you get an all clear.

AZ, yep, that one is from my hibiscus tree, slowly going bald in my upstairs hallway. *Remember me to water that poor thing*

The ones that grow in the ground get plate sized flowers. The grandbaby learned to say "BIGbigbig" from those flowers. LOL.

She loves flowers as much as I do, and tried to say the names of them. We'd walk the yard and she'd sniff with her nose all wrinkled up, and have me pick her bouquets last summer. She kept trying to feed the purple cones to the dogs, and they'd take them.

They actually ate the grape tomatoes from her.

*kicking self*

How did I miss this thread, Anne??? Very glad you got through your MRI and are no worse for the wear. You are such a sweet person.

Here's a little something that made me think of you.
