Tightness & Numbness on the right side of my face.

Hello everyone my name is Richie and i'm 26 years old. For the past few weeks now iv'e been experiancing tightness & numbness running along the right side of my face. It basically feels like my right side has been injected with novacane . It runs parallel throughout my whole cheek area . I notice the numbess and tightness gets more pronounced when my heart rate increases . As far I can tell I have full function on my right side no signs of paralysis, Thank God. I am still extreamely concerned and worried about this condition though because it just came out of no where . I have been feeling a little stressed and overwhelmed lately so i'm not sure if this could be a big contribution towards this . I'm trying to get a doctors referral to see a neurologist on this condition because I don't want to cause any further delays if this is a serious condition . If anyone has suffered thru this same issue iv'e been having and could provide feedback on what it could be and what measures are to be done I would greatly appreciate it .

dear carbonblkm3,
hello and welcome to Neurotalk!

I am sorry you are hurting... if you are experiencing this just go to the ER, they should test you quickly...
I would like to know if you have been to the dentist?
if you have not you may need to go - if you have you may wish to have the doctor see what is going on, does it tingle and burn numb?
because when you panic it makes everything worse, do you have dry mouth?
you need a clean low pH to 7.5 pH drinking water, chewing gum may help,
it may be a type of burning mouth syndrome, do you have a pink tongue or is it coated white? if it is white inyour mouth you may have candida -called for the mouth "thrush".
do not use flouride toothpaste, it will make it worse,
flouride is not healthy -it is a toxin -
start researching and go to a dentist or a neurologist...
I am just a patient with Parkinson's Disease, who has a bit of what you are having and I must say - yuck -the mouth is very sensitive...

if you want to ask questions in any forum -we do have many so do a search on the search tab and see if any of my questions pop up...

PS ; do not chew or eat anything with the artificial sweetner called aspartame, it was called equal -it is a neurotoxins -
if you need gum go to a healthfood store, or read the ingredients if they are listed - a good sweetner is called stevia - it's what a healthy sugar should be- sugars are not bad for the body but we do not need to eat candy all day -it may cause diabetes - and we do not need anymore health problems - okay...

Hi Tena, thank you for responding back to me . I haven't been to the dentist since last year, but I know he was telling me my wisdom teeth should be removed . They were bothering me in my early 20's but for the past 2 years they havent. Now I went to my doctor last week for a cold, but complained about the numbness iv'e been having and he said it has to do something with the back of my jaw. I just wasn't buying that . I sometimes get dry mouth here and there, I do do quite care of my teeth and rinse alot,, so I wouldnt say I have a white coating on my tongue, but I notice theres a light coating on the back portion of the tongue. Like I said the discomfort I have can be best described as a numbness also indentical to a dentist giving you novacane. I just hope it isn't something serious like bell's palsy .

lou_lou 02-19-2008 01:42 AM

no dear richie~

dear richie,
bells palsy -my neice has had - she looks like one side of her face is
paralised droops = often thought it looks like she had a stroke...

I think teeth cause a lot of things if not kept healthy...
please - have your wisdom teeth looked at - pressure on a nerve - could be causing this...

First off I'm new here. I woke up this morning with part of my right cheek and right ear numb. I am a chronic migraine sufferer since childhood. i am almost 30. like carbonblkm3 stated it was like my face was shot full of novacane and was just at the start of waking up. if it is just one of the weird migraine prodrome symptoms, i can handle that but it has gone on for over 12 hours now. getting a little worried. Dr office asked about my caffeine intake. Usually it is no more than a 12oz redbull in the morning and that is it. i am tapering down and i have had no more than 8oz for the last 2 weeks. today was the first day of cutting down from 8oz, but i had not had any yet. EMG done yesterday of hands and arms. (feels weird)

I feel I have talked enough so if anyone can shed some light or atleast point me in a direction, i will listen.

Numbness on Right Side of Face

Hello Richie.
My name is Maria, I'm 50 years old. I feel as if you are discribing me! For the past few weeks I started experiencing the EXACT same feeling! Out of no where this weird feeling came to light. I haven'nt had dental work, but my face sure feels like I just stepped out of the dentist office. It's only the right side of my face from below my right eye to my chin. To a point that my teeth ache. I did however go see my doctor and he told me that it may have been due to a severe allergy infection I had, so he put me on a weeks of antibiotics. After about a week there was still no change, so he put me on steroids for the inflammation. He also told me that it might be a tumor that is putting pressure on a nerve cavity. Tomorrow is the last day on the steroids, then I follow up with him next week. He said if there was no improvement, that I would need to schedule a CT scan of my head. Hey good luck with everything and please let me know how you're doing.
Take Care,
Maria

Bell's Palsy

Hi,

I am new to this group. My brother recently suffered with numbness on the right side of his face, he also experienced weakness in the right hand and right leg but quickly recovered. Now, even after 2-3 days his facial weakness still exists. He got the MRI scan done yesterday and the report indicates "Incidental finding of left pharyngeal mucosal space retention cyst." and rest is normal. We are not sure what it means but the Neurologist confirmed it as Bell's Palsy, suggested him steriods and facial physiotherapy for a month.

Can any one help us by giving more details on what exactly this finding means and precautions to be taken to avoid re-occuring.

Thanks in advance !
CB
