Lunar Eclipse
LOS ANGELES - The last total lunar eclipse until 2010 occurs Wednesday night, with cameo appearances by Saturn and the bright star Regulus on either side of the veiled full moon.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080220/.../lunar_eclipse We are cloudy...hope it clears for the view!!! |
Hey Greenjeans, clear sky here - we are ready - just waiting for it to start and hoping I can stay awake!
|
Thanks! I am putting my shoes on. What time? 9pm?

:( it's getting cloudy here in texas...
|
clear here and perfect window in our living room shows it all....my daughter who is almost 3....and speech delayed....the word MOON was one of her first...she loves seeing the Moon....so going to show her again before bedtime...as the eclipse stuff is starting ..hugsss,sarah
|
Well, should be starting in an hour or so....I'm still cloudy :(:(
BOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!! Enjoy down yonder!!! |
Here in Utah...looks like the Cookie Monster took a great big bite out of the moon. We have an inversion going on so it is just blurry. Hopefully as the evening progresses it will clear out...fantastic!!
|
I just went out on my front porch and looked it's really cool the moon is more than half shadowed here in Michigan.
|
Went and looked earlier -- too cloudy. Bummer. My DD was very disappointed.
|
Wow!! Right before it was all the way Eclipsed it was a strange brownish redish color...cool!!
|
I just looked at 10:30 PM -cold and clear - almost fully covered w/a bright star on the left. Nice.
|
So beautiful to watch. We were driving home along the river and watching the events unfold.

:(I got to see the beginning but then clouds came in and that was all I got to see. It was cool though. Like someone took a bite out of a cookie.
I would have loved to have seen the whole thing. We rarely have clouds. Why tonight? Why? LOL. |
It was beautiful here in Maine - I got up a couple of times to look at it. We got the binoculars out and looked at it - there was a star in it... it was beautiful!
|
I might be wrong...but the one star I think was Saturn....
My daughter as I said lOVEs the moon....she was watching and saying Bye Bye Moon....hugss all, sarah Bright sunshiney day here..yeahhhh but coldddd burrrrr |
It was too cloudy to see it here in Pa. I can't wait for the next one. I am going to get the kids up to see it.
|
Yep, I think Sarah is right that the brightest star was Saturn. I tried to look at it in my binocs but they suck. LOL The moon was cool though! I told Jim I want a telescope for my b-day, period, no questions, just get it. Hehehee
|
I'm soooo jelouse! I have a telescope and love to star gaze....when the skies are clear....and it's not summer! (24 hour light)....
Glad you all got the view....there's another partial in August...so maybe....if its clear....I should see that even if it's light out. |
We were looking forward to seeing it and wouldn't you know....the clouds came over and it rained!
Bummer!! We moved here to get away from that nasty wet stuff. Oh well; the cacti will bloom pretty this Spring. |
I'm jealous of you all. Dang clouds!!! Although, in other parts of town people were able to see it clearly.
I now have to wait a couple of years to see the next one. |

I was in your shoes. The darn clouds. We even had a small snow shower. :(:( Jappy |
Char was right, beautiful view here, crystal clear and freezing cold, I was at work and brought my binoculars.
The "star" to the left as you looked up was Saturn. The star to the right was Regulus. I was checking out other stuff too. I can still see the comet Holmes, although it was very faint in the southwestern sky, easier to see as the moon darkened, past the Pleiades and off to the left of them. Mars has dimmed a LOT since this summer, but a good view of the "Red Triangle" ( Mars, Betelgeuse and Aldebaran) as the eclipse began. My view of the moon was very red, but at the beginning, the penumbra had a blue shadowline moving ahead of it and THAT was cool! Truly one of the eclipses where I wished I had a good 35 MM camera, tripod and a lens that took good closeups with me!! |
Thank you deb and I went out and watched it from my van cause its still nippy here, saw regulus but not saturn dam city lights, I can show deb saturn during a new moon.

kola might be able to answer but can not remember the exact screen name perhaps that was at the nameless place, so if you see this 'ello mate" I sent you a PM weegot5kiz, but no we didn't get it at the same time as you did. We got it in November, and yes we had a clear night, and yes it was fantastic. Another fabulous show put on by Mother Nature. |
