I Received My Chantix Refund Today

I received a check today from Pfizer refunding my $52.00 co payment!;)

All of you that have not requested a refund can start looking for your receipts and send them in to get your money back.:)

I mailed my receipt and refund request on 2/2/08 and the check is dated 2/22/08 so they aren't dragging their feet on refunding this money.

The remittance part of the check says "Please be advised that this reimbursement should not be considered an admission of liability or as a waiver of any defenses or rights that Pfizer may have in this matter."

I smell law suits.

WTG, Becky!! :D

That's great news Becky. I must admit I was a bit dubious as to whether or not you'd ever see your money. but I'm so glad they paid up for you.

The same drug has just recently gone on sale here in Australia. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes for users here to start reporting the same side effects as you people have.

Thanks Beary.

I would not have thought to ask for a refund on a prescription I bought 8 months ago. Never dreamed that they would refund my money.:p

You are the one who gave me the suggestion.:) Thank you very much for that.

I thought for sure they wouldn't do anything but there must be some reason they are refunding so quickly and asking for so little information.

Becky:)

Koala,

I was very happy to see that $52.00 check yesterday. I cashed it today and actually have some money in my billfold for a change. :)LOL

I'm still surprised at how easy and fast it was to get the refund. A hand written request for a refund giving a reason for stopping the Chantix and a copy of the pharmacy receipt. That's all!

I would think that the side effects will be reported in Australia very fast. I have seen some information about it on CNN.

I could not believe my eyes when I read on the insert that in rare cases Chantix could cause MS. How do they know that? If they did know that, why in the world would they put that stuff on the market? The doctors who are prescribing it have no idea about this.

Amazing!

Becky:)

LOL!! I honestly didn't even remember that! :D But then again, I am the person who keeps the package and calls up the food company if something is amiss!! I literally have a frozen entree box on my kitchen counter right now!

I guess this just sounded much more important than some cardboardy and frostbitten lasagna.

Bearygood 02-28-2008 03:18 PM

One of the first news stories I saw a segment on was about a guy who wound up getting killed during a psychotic episode attributed to the drug. I'd previously heard about weird dreams, etc. I then read that multiple sclerosis was actually listed as a potential side effect! However, this was apparently not in the original literature and all doctors had not received updated information. I still find it strange since the cause of MS is largely unknown, how it could possibly be a "side effect" but I concluded that it's possible that it's capable of causing neurological disturbances. I found all of this disturbing enough to throw out my prescription and also call Pfizer to register a complaint regarding failure to update their disclosure to the medical field.

That said, a lot of people (including some with MS) have had success with the drug and no problems. I just didn't want to chance it and again, I was pretty ****** off that my doctor was obviously not aware of MS being referenced in the literature.

Here's some more info. and toward the bottom of the article, it references the man who got shot.

Where can I write to get a refund?
Thank you

sheena 04-30-2008 07:02 PM

Oh, this news is just great - not -. I'm on chantix (sp) again. 3rd try this year. I keep getting pulled off 1st due to family death & stress, 2nd ms dio & stress, now it looks like I'll go off for good if there is a MS link. I've never got 2 weeks in me till something happened. I have to research - thank u for the info.

Becky21 04-30-2008 10:12 PM

PunkDizzle,

I am so glad you got your money back.:) :D There is no reason we should be stuck with medication that makes us sicker. We have enough expense and health problems and don't need to deal with these awful side effects.:(

I know how good I felt to get my much needed money back. Thanks for telling me the good news about your refund.:D I am glad I posted the info.:D

When I called Pfizer about the Chantix refund, the rep. told me to write a letter stating why I couldn't take it. She said to sign the letter and submit it along with the pharmacy receipt and mail it to: Pfizer Product Refund Program..6501 Weston Parkway Suite 370....Carry, N.C. 27513.

She said if I didn't have the receipt to contact the pharmacy for a copy. They did not request that I return the product but sent a letter telling me how to dispose of it.

I just sent a hand written letter to them requesting a refund. I wrote that I did not want to risk the possibility of making my MS worse by taking their drug. Short and sweet note with my name, address and phone number.

It is a very easy thing to do and they were very courteous and I got my check very fast. I am impressed with the way they are handling this situation.

Rissa_TX 04-30-2008 11:19 PM

Woah! I was taking Chantix when I first felt the tingling in my hands that prompted me to see a neuro in the first place. My MRI showed 30+ lesions and I was diagnosed with MS about a month ago. Until right this moment, I would have recommended the drug to anyone and everyone because I was successful in quitting smoking. I never read in the literature that it could cause MS! Crazy stuff.

freeinhou 05-01-2008 04:42 AM

I took Chantix from 2/20 to 3/30. Haven't smoked since 3/16.

no side effects for me.

Tom

PolarExpress 05-01-2008 05:05 AM

Maybe I'm missing something here (I do miss lots of stuff), but how can they say it can cause MS, when nobody knows what causes MS?

Becky21 05-01-2008 11:40 AM

You aren't missing anything. I thought the very same thing until I read long insert with the info that comes with Chantix. It says in rare cases that it may cause MS! It was enough for me to know that I was not going to risk taking it!

I have heard from many people that it worked well for them and they stopped smoking. They didn't have any major health problems. My best friend has Lupus and she couldn't take it.

It is quite a statement from Pfizer since nobody knows what causes MS. I'm confused about it also but maybe they know something we don't know.
