MSN Hotmail - UGH!

How many of you have MSN hotmail and are having trouble with it today? I can't even get on there as it says the server is unavailable.

So frustrating as this is how I communicate with my boss and clients.

tovaxin_lab_rat 02-26-2008 02:18 PM

Seems they are doing some sort of maintenance today.

:(

tkrik 02-26-2008 02:28 PM

Thanks, Av8rgirl. I have been able to receive mail through outlook.

I don't know about sending as I haven't got replies yet. LOL. It says it went through.

clouds z 02-26-2008 02:56 PM

everyday it sucks

aim is unlimited and gmail sets up free with pop3 outlook

Abbie 02-26-2008 03:02 PM

MSN is doing maintenance this week on their email programs... hotmail.com and msn.com

I've been having trouble with it a lot too....

It bites when I really need to send something....

tovaxin_lab_rat 02-26-2008 03:18 PM

This is the first day I've had problems with it. I used to have a gmail account but it got hacked into and I found out from my computer guru that gmail is the easiest email program to hack into so I dropped it ASAP! AIM is part of AOL and I have no desire to use AOL Instant Messenger for my email...been there done that!! No thank you. :(:p

Hotmail also sets up with pop3 and is free...;) They don't do maintenance very often but when they do, it's usually for the better! :)

It is frustrating when you rely on it for business...I only use it for back up.

I'm still at work, eating my yummy dinner of Raman noodles, and I got this from NBC10 news. I haven't been able to get into my hotmail all day either, just occasionally. They don't know how long it will be out but it's very temperamental right now.

Awww...

That makes sense....

tkrik 02-26-2008 06:24 PM

Thanks for the link Me BP? It's interesting especially since it is international as well. I am sure many are affected by it.

I've been getting my e-mail through Outlook and that seems to be working. Occasionally I get an error message.

re: aim...you don't have to download the aol software to use aim.

same with googletalk im. ( gmail ) you can use both off of their websites.

PolarExpress 02-26-2008 08:53 PM

I don't know if this will help much, but I've contunually used an email account on care2.com..It's free, and every time you send an email, there is a small donation made for wildlife..I've used it for years, and have never had any problems. Might make a good backup?

That's what got hacked into on my computer! (gmail)

I'm not having any problems now with hotmail. It was down for about 45 minutes for me...then no problems whatsoever. ;)

tkrik 02-26-2008 10:00 PM

Mines up and running too! I just checked after I saw your post.

I have been using MSN for about 10 years now and have never had a problem before. Before that I had AOL and hated them. They were slow, you couldn't get on (I had dial up back then).

I've been real happy with MSN.

I do have a yahoo "junk" mail that I only go in to about once a month. I use it for all those things that request and/or require an e-mail but I know I'll never read them or pay attention to them. LOL.

Thank you to everyone who responded. Hopefully MSN will get it all worked out soon and those that use it will be up and running too.

I use gmail as my second email site. I have all important things sent to my 1st site, but if I download stuff... etc, I use gmail as my home address.

I find their junk/spam filter so much better than Yahoo or Hotmail.

When you got hacked into FG.....can you please tell me what happened ? ....broadly speaking of course. Am interested, seeing I use the same one.

And I thought it was just me...I was defiitely having problems with hotmail . It times itself out and I have to try to sign back in!

prettypearlgirl 02-27-2008 11:49 PM

Since they changed to "Live", I have had nothing but problems with my hotmail account. Before that, it was always reliable. I use it for my business, so when it messes up, I really have a problem!!!

It does mess things up when you use it for business. It is also a pain in the neck when you need to attach several documents.

MSN came with my DSL package. But, as stated above, it is such a pain to attach several documents to an e-mail. So, I checked in to how I could use Outlook as I can attach several documents by clicking on each document I want to attach all at the same time. To use Outlook, I had to download Outlook Connector from the Microsoft site.

Abbie 03-01-2008 10:10 AM

ARGH!!!

I can't get into my hotmail...

Is anyone else having this problem today??????

Abbie

MelodyL 03-01-2008 10:50 AM

Well, I just got into my hotmail account but I'm confused. Sometimes a window pops up indicating it's Windows Live Mail.

I have no idea what this is.

Abbie 03-01-2008 11:15 AM

Maybe MSN is having probs again...

I still can't get in...

I don't know what the "Live" thingy is you are getting???

I NEED MY EMAIL.... sorry just me whining...

Abbie:(

MelodyL 03-01-2008 06:13 PM

Hi Jo:

I have Outlook Express (which is my default mail thingee).

I used to have a problem doing the attachments.

I also have used Hotmail for YEARS. Never had a problem. I signed up for something called Windows Passport (I have no idea what this is).

I very rarely use my hotmail account. Only when I can't get mail to go to my Outlook express thingee, I tell people "try the hotmail email address".

Well, you will never believe what has been happening.

I go to my Outlook Express and I see stuff with attachments. (Remember some time ago, I couldn't open up anything if my life depended on it??).

Well, things have changed AND I DON'T KNOW WHY.

If I get an email with an attachment, I click on the email, then I go to the paper clip (on the subject line).

Sometimes I have to do this up to 5 times. But then MAGICALLY, a little message thingee pops up and it says 'WINDOWS LIVE MAIL". ???????

And my attachment opens up.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANY OF THIS.

Is the live mail opening up the attachment??? And if so, WHY??

Thanks,

tkrik 03-01-2008 07:32 PM

I have been able to get in to my hotmail today. So far it seems to be working OK. Still having trouble with attachments though.

Jomar 03-01-2008 09:09 PM

Maybe it did some sort of upgrade or repair ??
I don't use it- but I'm guessing the Live Mail thing is doing something to open the attachments for you:) yeah...

tovaxin_lab_rat 03-02-2008 01:51 PM

They did do an upgrade. I've not had any problems. The upgrade was with MSN Instant messenger. You can go to their homepage, I believe Jo provided the link, and read about the upgrade and the changes that were made.

If you are using Firefox as your browser or a browser other than Internet Exploxer, that could be the problem. Just my guess.

Like I said, I've had no problems whatsover other than the 45 minutes or so down time while they were down nationwide.

Maybe you should try cleaning out your cache or temporary internet files. That might help. If you are using Windows XP, use the tools pull down menu, go to Internet Options, then delete history, then delete temporary internet files. ;)
