LONG Hi everyone! I'm back!

Hi everybody!

It has been a very rough three weeks. I am exhausted. I'm home.

Thank you to everyone for all of the concern, prayers, etc. :).

My mom is not doing well. The tumor is so large that it has started to crush her esophagus and that is why she was unable to swallow solid foods or keep anything down. She is still in the hospital and has had a feeding tube put in her stomach. It is only temporary, thank goodness.

She is going to start radiation therapy this week to shrink the mass so that she will be able to eat again. Surgery is not an option because of the location and irregularity in shape. The oncologist will be doing more tests to determine the point of origination. I don't think it even matters at this stage. We are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.:(

I am hoping to go back to Pittsburgh as soon as I can. This darn MS is making things really difficult:)! I have to get a T-spine mri tomorrow and see the neuro. Wednesday I get my second Tysabri infusion. I also need to try to get back to work soon. My short term disability benefits run out on April 23. There is just too much going on right now; I feel like screaming.:eek:

Sorry for being such a downer. I will try to cheer up but it seems like that would just take too much effort :):) right now.

Aww, hon, I'm so glad you're home and so sorry for the circumstances.

I know you're tired so I won't try to call you today - in fact, you just call me whenever you have the energy and feel like talking. You know me - I'm always home and whatever time you call I'll more than likely be awake!!

It's good to see you posting again. Take care, get some rest and remember that all your friends are praying for you.

Welcome home Joelle! Many have missed your smiling and happy face around here! If that's hard to do right now, we understand! Bad things happen to good people....I don't know why, but I know we all have crosses to bare in life, just different ones.

Whats going on with Mom is just beyond fair and I feel your pain and fear accross all these miles! This is one of those things that none of us can offer up advice too, but know we are all praying for Mom, and you, and the whole family! I hope in some way, you are comforted by those here who really do care what you are going thru, what your Mom is going thru!

Take care of yourself darlin' and if you need to talk...you know where to find me!! Also....about going back to work....maybe come April, you can use FMLA as that is available for this very reason....please look into it and like my DH always says....it will all work out, some way, some how....

Many Cyber Hugs!
:hug::hug::hug:

Awww, Joelle, that's too bad about your Mom.

You cheered me up recently and maybe I can return the favor. Here is what happened:

You sent that postcard of you standing in that outdoor, very public shower in Key West. The sign reads: "Showers $1, To Watch: $2."

Well, DH had finishing helping me into our shower at home (I broke my leg). I guess he was just wondering what to do next, but I felt like I was being watched (see-thru shower door).

So I asked him, "You just gonna stand there while I shower?"

He answered with an evil smile: "Maybe."

Well, Joelle, I've had your postcard posted on my kitchen cupboard for weeks now, and he knew what I was talking about when I said, "Well, then I'll have to charge you TWO DOLLARS!"

Good luck to you and your Mom!

Hi Joelle

I posted on the other thread but will post again. Take care of yourself, too. Don't forget that.

Hugs to you. Make sure you get some rest while you are home. You have been on an emotional roller coaster. I think at some time or another, a lot of us have been there...I know I have. It's tough. Here's hoping you get good news from the MRI and the next dose of Tysabri does you good!

weegot5kiz 03-10-2008 09:02 PM

as hard as it may seem or be to do, please hang in there joelle, you are over taxing yourself, try to find at least a day to just block everything and sleep a thousand sleeps. even if its for one day,

sorry the news isnt more encouraging, regarding your moms cancer, dont lose faith, one can never tell what may happen, as before you, your mom and your family are in Debbies and My prayers and thoughts

hollym 03-10-2008 09:05 PM

I am so sorry that things are this bad. I hope they can do something for her. Cancer sucks. There is no other way to put it. I'm sorry that you and your family have to go through this.

Taffy 03-10-2008 10:24 PM

I will be thinking of you and your mom.

Carolina 03-10-2008 11:10 PM

Joelle - How nice of you to think of us and give us an update during this most difficult time. Thank you so much. I've been keeping you, your mom and family in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh my gosh, with everything you have going on, don't even give that a second thought. We're here for you, no matter what.

Sending lots of love your way.

Riverwild 03-11-2008 04:59 PM

Sorry I am so late welcoming you back! It's been one of those weeks, but not anything like you are dealing with!

Everyone's given you good advice already, so mine is just ditto on what they said. Rest, regroup, do your Ty infusion, and relax.

I read your other thread too and I have no advice. Cancer is different with everyone, just like MS. I am hoping that the radiation and chemo will shrink the tumor and ease the discomfort your Mom is going through right now.

I went through it with my Dad and it just whittles you down to a nub when you are trying to care for a parent as well as dealing with your own chronic disease.

Let us know how it goes, ok?:grouphug:
