The Night
 

Okay, this is totally out in left field, but I'm sitting here alone and it is night. I can be in my home (alone at times) all day and it doesn't bother me.

What is it about darkness and night that is so scary?

I don't know why but you notice every sound (in my case it's usually my darn refrigerator creaking and making all kinds of noise!).

Sometimes I think it's the neighborhood cats who pitter patter across my deck and jump off. Or fight with each other and make ungodly sounds.

Get my point.

I wonder if it's just in us to fear the dark, dating from the time of early man who didn't even have fire (for a good while) to ward off the dark and the wild beasts.

I think that's where the 'hair on the back of the neck standing up' comes from.

What do you think?

Anyone else not like the night time?

If my hubby is gone on a business trip, I find it so much harder to get comfortable once it starts getting late. Every sound is suspecious, but usually it's my kitties getting into trouble.

Not sure what it is. Maybe it is just something about the darkness that we learned as humans not to like. :confused:

Yep, I am the same when DH is gone. I guess it is silly to feel less scared when he's home but I feel safer. Thinking logically though..the same scary things exist when he's here or not.

I get so tired; not sleeping well when he's gone.

I guess the stuff in the news is getting to me!

I've been a chicken since I was a kid....it never went away. :eek: I was the kid that dragged the blanket and slept on the floor in my parents room til I was 12.

I think it's in the genes. I never could rationalize with myself. Thunderstorms still make me jump!

I'm one of those weirdo's who isn't bothered by nighttime. I can fall asleep just fine whether I'm home alone or not. I'm not sure why I've become this way because when I was married I hated it when Tim was gone overnight. I'd hear every noise and just knew something was going to get me. Now, I can be alone during an horrendous thunderstorm where the electricity is knocked out in the middle of the night and I just snuggle deeper into my bed.

Sometimes I think I've been through the worst things a person could endure - and a little darkness isn't going to hurt me (or scare me). :(

There was a point where I screwed up my courage (this was a few years back), and I turned all the lights off in my home and then walked through it. Funny how the eyes adjust and you can see. Not like when you first turn off the lights and it's so dark.

I wandered through the house, no fear.

Now I just can't sleep; I always think someone might break in and I won't hear them and take evasive action. Isn't that silly. Must be the latest news and seeming vulnerability I see.

I have an alarm system and double locks and such, but it still worries me.

As I said, what the difference really is that dh is here or not I don't know. He sleeps like a rock. One time the liner of our chimney fell in...horrendous noise. He slept through it!

You know, it is funny. My DH is a restaurant manager and there are many nights that he closes and isn't home until after midnight and I'm already asleep. I have no problem with that. However, when he has been out of town for work, I am more scared of the night. I feel more vulnerable because I know he isn't going to be home soon.

I'm such a chicken at night.
My son sleeps in the basement and it doesn't bother him.

Hubby is gone tonight too at a dart tournament so I will sleep with the tv on in my bedroom...

I have always been this way, and i will not watch a scary movie.. if i have to walk up from the basement for something at night it will unnerve me a bit..

When the power goes out that has to be the worst... i will light every candle in the house, find every flashlight..

So yes i hate the night, I admit it.

Double dilemma
 

Oh I am a huge chicken. :eek::eek:

When my DH is gone on business I hear every noise andthey all sound ominous like someone is going to break in.

I have even gone so far as to put things in front of the doors so if someone got in it would make a ruckus.

I'm not real scared when my DH is out of town & I'm alone but I sure don't like it. I'll always remember what happened a couple yrs ago when hubby was gone. It was light when I found out & wasn't too scared, but I can't help thinking what COULD happen.

One morn I was washing dishes & it looked like rain so I thought I better check to see if all the windows were closed/zipped in our pop-up camper in the backyard. When I opened the door a man was in one of the bunks sleeping. :eek: He didn't wake up when I opened the door. I thought "Is that Donny?" (my DDs boyfriend). I went in the house to have a talk with her & she didn't know what I was talking about. She told me Donny went home at 11:00. We got upset & called 911. The cops came out & got the guy.
I went out to investigate the camper & it smelled like smoke and there was a cigarette but on the floor. But thats not all he left..he pooped on the counter.
We have a little dog but now also have a german shephard.

:eek: That would scare the He** outta me! I'm not really scared of the dark but the one thing that does bother me is that dh is almost deaf in both ears...he wears hearing aids. He takes them out when he sleeps.....you could run a train through and he'd never know it. I hear all the little noises and worry sometimes that if I am sound asleep something will happen and neither one of us will hear it.
For some reason fog bothers me more than dark.
