Board Buddies Get-togethers
 

I am curious as to how many have met other "board buddies", either individually or in groups? How far did you travel to meet? What type of event was it?

Once in a while I read (with envy) of people getting together, but besides being up here in the boonies, a trip to town to do errands tuckers me all out.

It always seems complicated, finding dates and places that work for more than two people, and of course there are weather considerations--especially up here where we have winter fifteen months a year.

What are your experiences? Have you got anything planned for the future? I want details! :D

Momma when she lived in Florida, in Florida

braingonebad, koko and mightymouse in Toledo. Twice

mdolfan, dshesq, donna, karamariesue, dholland, twinkletoes, stacey, Theresa, and about half a dozen others in Houston. Sparky even came down to visit from Mississippi. Woodworker when he was in town.

I met several people from the Prodigy MS bulletin board in the early 90's in the Detroit area.

Experiences have always been good. We go to central Florida and the Toledo area occasionally, so I'll meet up with folks in those areas.

I'll keep meeting up with people. I'm surprised nobody's taken me up on my offer of a behind the scenes tour of NASA Johnson Space Center...

Well, I have met with freeinhou, AMN, bannet, CBK and a few others but from MSW.

Gol, I hope I didn't forget anyone here or I will never hear the end of it from Tom.

I would love too but haven't been able to get there - BUT, I will one of these days!!!!!

I have met Riverwild and then I have been to the NE get together with RW and there were so many people there that I know I will miss someone so I am not even going to try..... :eek:

and of course to FFM's house!

and someday I am going to do a road trip to VT to see our own B2U... I have said this for over a year but I have in the back of my mind that this summer a road trip is going to be in order!!! I can travel easier than she can! Then again if she will meet me is another thing.... :rolleyes:

You can bet your butt that if I ever get down there, I will take you up on that. My 11 year old thinks it is so cool that I "know" someone who works there.

I actually organized 2 Pittsburgh area get togethers for members over on MSW. We actually only had about 4 or 5 people show up at the first one, but the second one we had more like 10 people. I also had dinner with Flygirl and mdolfan from MSW.

I have become quite good friends with a couple of people from MSW and have had more frequent personal interaction with them.

Do get togethers include "stalkings"????

I have been really lucky to meet AMN, FG (Cheryl) Wiz and Ceci.

The "stalking" for the benefit of NT members, means that AMN and FG set up a trip and came to see me w/o my knowledge. It was waaaaaaaaaaay cool! They even gave me a Be Nice to DM day. I think that's the day I became a Princess!:rolleyes::winky:

But, there will be an IL gathering in the neeeeeeeeeeeeer future. *like Spring*

I have had a few internet friends come and visit me in Vancouver, and I have been down to Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Indiana to meet others.

We are currently trying to organize a get-together in either NC/SC or NY right now. We attempted to do the same thing last year too, but many of us were too unwell or didn't have the money at the time.

I also plan to head to TX in November as my daughter is playing in a couple of showcase ball tournaments in Dallas and Houston. If I don't make it south this spring, I'll try to organize a get-together while I am there then.

What we've done in the past is plan to meet at someone's house, where they were gracious enough to put us all up for the night, then we all traveled to a resort where we stayed in a huge room. I flew to Minnesota after that, and drove to Wisconsin. My sister lives in Chicago, so that was a good home base for me while I commuted around.

It was exhausting, no doubt. It took me many months to recover . . . but was worth it!

I haven't met anyone but you can believe I have met some of my closest friends via telephone and internet here! I will meet my dear friends someday. I am looking forward to the Illinois meet in the spring or whenever it happens!

Meeting my board buddies in NE was the most inspiring thing I have done so far. I had just started on the other forum when I saw the NE get together and it was only 5 min from my house....how could I not meet everyone!

I am very very very hurt....how soon she has forgotten the 2 hours we spent in the van...the dinner...the dancing on the table...and the night we spent together...and then the 2 hour drive back up to Mary's house...

I've had the pleasure of meeting many board buddies. I've travelled to Boston, Philadelphia, Reno, Portland, Seattle, Toad Hollow, Chicago, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvannia (some bathroom in a restaurant somewhere!), many airports along the way, MRI waiting rooms in Beaverton, OR, Washington DC....

I've met many board buddies who are no longer around, some who belong to other forums, some who belong to other forums that no longer exist, and I've had a ball!

( I swear I am one of those people who order all the freebies NASA gives away. I hang them on the walls/ceilings at camp in the kids room and some of them I play with myself!:winky: I built the LEM out of a paper model that NASA sent once!)

I have had several opportunities to travel to meet board buddies, but Illness and anxiety have keep me from doing so. Even the Board buddies who live within a hop, skip and a Jump.

At first it was a case of agoraphobia...I couldn't even go to the Doctors. I keep canceling appointments. My Neuro finally forced me, by cutting off my Meds, if I didn't come in. DD bundle me up and took me in...I survived.:rolleyes: Because of that, I stopped going to that Neuro. I see my PCP once a year and tht's it, unless I'm sick.

I am quite comfortable being a self-proclaimed hermit. My Family and Close Friends, completely understand and respect my wishes. With the exception of my DD, SSons, Grands, and many many repair people:p, I don't have company.

I not only communicate with all of you, and some of you, I consider close (you know who you are), on the internet, but this is how I communicate with Near and Dear Friends and the rest of my Family. My computer has kept me from becoming the "Cat Lady"..:p:D:p..

Soooo, as much as I love all of you, and as much as I know, that I could not survive without you, I don't want any stalkers showing up at my door and I promise I won't show up at yours..:D

I love hearing all your stories of visits and love seeing all of your pictures. So keep them coming and I will try to share as much of me as I am able.

OOPS, I forgot to add...I am your Friend and I am always here in spirit for you, even though, circumstances keep me from being there, in person. If You ever need anything, just ask, and I will help, even if I have to send out the National Guard to your rescue...

I am soooo VERY VERY VERY sorry - It wasn't that I forgot because I certainly did not want to utterly crush you.... and no more Dunkin' Donuts??? You must of been so very crushed - what ever can I do to make it up to you. Dancing on the table was the best part of the whole entire trip!!! I will never ever forget that - to the point it was so very special that is the picture of have of my big smile being with you on the table!!!

But Ive talked to 5 ppl on the phone,from different sites. The longest distance is canada,Oh boy did she have a funky acsent.
LOL,she said she liked mine tho,im like well its a hick acsent.

I would love to meet some board buddies, but life is complicated for me these days. I don't transition well (read: changes, surprises). I don't do well in crowded, noisy places. I don't do long distances.

Right or wrong, I don't do well outside my comfort zone.

Well, I am glad to hear that RW has more good sense than me for I know I have none.... I have been know many many times to speak before I think - not only around here but in my every day life as well.
