Put your thinking caps on

I thought I'd appeal to those people on the site who have the gift of being able to say the right thing on the right occassion.

As many of you know, I've been having lots of computer problems. It's actually crashed now, and it'll be a while until I can afford to have it fixed.

There is however, a competition in our local newspaper at the moment, and first prize is an electonic package worth $70,000.

Prizes include computers, televisions, digital camers, stereo outfits....the works.

I'd really love to win this prize, and believe me...it couldn't go to a worthier entrant.

All I have to do to enter is say in 25 words or less why I'd like to win this package. here-in lies my problem!! I never enter competitions like that one as I can never think of aything witty or clever to say.

If anyone can help me out, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you in anticipation.

SandyC 03-16-2008 08:16 PM

Well, let's see. You could start with how you use the computer to keep in touch with your board buds and how important such communication is to you. Obviously throw in who you are and about your situation and how you gain so much support from your online contacts all over the world?

I am pulling for you!!!!! Too bad we couldn't write in to the newspaper and say why you deserve to win!

tovaxin_lab_rat 03-16-2008 08:29 PM

Anne, Sandy is onto something...talk about how you need to keep in contact with the outside world for support --- it helps you to cope with your disease, etc. I am sure you could come up with something about not having a support group close by and how you depend on the support of people from other parts of the world, country, etc to help you with questions you have about the medications you take, etc.

You could also put in something about your lack of financial support if that is an issue...

Good luck Anne, I can't think of someone in your area who is more worthy!

AfterMyNap 03-16-2008 08:49 PM

Play the nose card!!! Play the nose card!!!!!!

Which approach is most appealing to you, Anne? Humor, sincere need, disability, peer pressure, communication? My point is, the give away is for their publicity, not to help anyone. Your 25 words have to be publicity-worthy!

Since the prize is a complete digital package, my immediate reaction is to somehow incorporate all of the items, by reference or inference. What is the feeling or voice you wish to use?

braingonebad 03-16-2008 09:32 PM

Cin, you're amazing!

Off the top of my rattly brain...

Pictures of wildlife, movies, relaxing music, online support of friends worldwide. This prize would be a dream come true for my husband and me.

or

Pick ME! PC just crashed. Desparately need replacement for disabled lady to keep in touch with best friends online. Thanks!

southie 03-16-2008 10:39 PM

25 words or less ...

:Hum:

Uses computer to obtain the latest medical
resources, information, and updates. Current
system's beyond repair. Financial situation
doesn't permit handicapped woman to afford
new one.

Does that sound a "tad" preachy there?

Kitty 03-17-2008 04:18 AM

I agree with all of the above.

If you've got to have this crappy disease may as well use it to your advantage!! :p

March is MS Awareness Month - what better way to make people aware of MS than to win this contest!!

Good luck!!

MooseasaurusRex 03-17-2008 11:27 AM

Twenty five words or less? Saying the right thing at the right time?

Sorry, beautiful. I'm no good at either of those.:p

Moose, you underestimate yourself ;)

Anne, sorry, no advice from the peanut gallery - but, good luck!

AfterMyNap 03-17-2008 01:11 PM

Hey, Anne, I was just thinking about our many American idioms and wonder if you Aussies have the same endless supply. My idea goes along the lines of something completely off the wall like:

"Another day, another fried electronic. My broken computer is not the sharpest crayon in the knife drawer short of a six-pack."

Not the exact words, of course, just the concept.:)

Or, a nursery song,

"Twinkle, twinkle, broken box,
How I wonder what's on FOX.
Now my PC's crapped out too
If there's help, it comes from you."

Again, not the words, just the idea.

Alffe 03-17-2008 01:26 PM

LOLOL! Best laugh I've had all day! :D

mrsD 03-17-2008 03:58 PM

Oh,

I really like the POEM idea! great!

Think of this like a slogan you see for products advertised.
catchy, real, etc.....

Koala77 03-19-2008 12:52 AM

You guys are all fantastic and I thank each and every one of you very much!

I have 4 entry forms so far for this competition, and I intend getting enough forms to put every single suggestion down.

If I were to be lucky enough to win, you will all be the first people to hear about it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to try and help me out. You are all wonderful!

Kitty 03-19-2008 05:11 AM

When is the contest winner going to be announced?

I really hope you win - the prize couldn't go to a more deserving person. :)

tovaxin_lab_rat 03-19-2008 10:16 AM

Good luck Anne!

CayoKay 03-19-2008 11:15 AM

A new COMPUTER, that's my need
Thirst for contact, I must heed.

MS sometimes brings despair
On the Web, I've friends who CARE.

Tootsie 03-20-2008 02:37 PM

How about putting it to poetry? Since it's only 25 words or less it might make it easier.

Such as "A computer takes me places I'd really like to be,
each hour spent on line is the best of company!"

Okay, that's hokey, but I bet someone here can do it ....

Tootsie:)

southie 03-20-2008 07:30 PM

Awwwwwww what the heck .....

Hopefully there's no limitations of
how many you can send ...

SEND IN THE CLOWNS ...
I mean ... send them
ALL IN
one by one and increase
your chances!

:Good-Luck:

MelodyL 03-20-2008 08:42 PM

Here's a very simple 24 words!!!!

I'll admit now that the entries haven't gone in yet.

25 word contest
Why I NEED to really possess
The ability to communicate
I am handicapped home bound
and as broke as my electronic Devices.

Koala77 03-25-2008 04:58 PM

I don't need any help with this one, but I've also entered another competition that is running in our local newspaper. We have lots of good competitions. So far all I've won though was a double pass to a rock revival concert, (gosh that was good), and a new swimming costume.

This one runs over 4 weeks, and the prize is a return trip for two, plus accomodation to the destination of the winner's choice...... London, Dubai, Paris or New York.

Paris was tempting and I just could not believe that Toad Hollow wasn't one of the choices, but I did write down New York on the entry form, and have to wait now until that competition closes before I start my packing. :Excited:

I've decided you have to be in it to win it, and as we have no money to go to these places or purchase these goods, it's time to start entering competitions again.

One day I'm sure to strike it lucky, and if I did win anything good, you'd probably hear me from over the Pacific Ocean. :D

DM 03-26-2008 08:37 AM

Oh Aussie bud~~ You just HAVE to win!!!!

How 'bout....

Please give my Aussie bud the prize,
If you don't, I'll punch your eyes!!!

signed, DM :D

Short and sweet.:D:D

ConsejoChick 03-26-2008 01:05 PM

a haiku for a new setup

I think Haikus are quite clever, sometimes nonsensical but always good food for thought or in your case, establishment of immediate needs....five, seven five syllables.....

a system I need
finances a big problem
my lifeline to world

or the standard limerick.....

So there I am lamenting cash
when damnit! my computer crashed
I was feeling forlorn
then a contest was born
maybe I win new stash?

Haiku...
dreary day bereft
of my machine and outlook
how to cope without?

Limerick....
Life sucks when you can't communicate
makes you use curse words that relate to fornicate
computer crashed
oh egads
please correct this mistake?

Hope this kinda works? I was told this last minute by a friend and being somewhat sick today the old noggin sometimes don't work too good.

AfterMyNap 03-26-2008 02:20 PM
