My buddy needs prayers
I can't even think what to say right now except please pray for my buddy Benton. He's still in the vet ICU and not doing well. He has toxic uremia from not being able to urinate and they're pumping him with ABs and fluids and he still has a catheter in because they haven't dislodged the blockage. All these crystals have built up in his bladder and urethra and he's not putting out. I went there yesterday, this morning on my way to work and lunch time and he doesn't even stir when I come in. He's just lying there with all these tubes in and the IVs in his little paws. They said he's on sedatives to try and relax his bladder but I know if he could he'd look at me and start purring. They said they want to operate and give him a female opening so this doesn't happen again but he's too weak. He's got to get stronger to have a chance. I can't lose him, he's been through so much with me and he's always there, no questions asked. Please God don't take him away from me. I'm going there now and hopefully they'll be some sign of improvement. There just has to be.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I know Benton is special to you and it is hard to see him so sick and fearful for his future.
I add my prayers and know that he is God's hands. |

:hug: Benton and you are both in my prayers!!! Thinking of you, Abbie |
Oh, I hate to hear this. My own cat had a similar problem but it was caught before it got too advanced. It's hard to catch things like this because more often than not we don't know anything is wrong until it's really far along. Apparently this is not uncommon in male cats - Tigger had crystals, too.
Since Tigger has had this problem I've been feeding him Royal Canon Urinary SO dry cat food and that has solved the problem. You have to have a prescription for it - and your vet will tell you if it's appropriate for your cat - but it has been a blessing for me. It's expensive - $20 for a 5# bag - but it's worth it if it keeps him from suffering through this again. I can pay a little more now or a LOT more later in vet bills. Ask your vet about it! I'm praying for Benton - I'm sure he'll be just as good as new before you know it. Please keep us updated on his progress. |

Prayers for both of you. |
I can feel all the prayers in my heart and thank you all from the bottom of my heart :grouphug:
The vet just called and his BUN and creatinine are really high and they fear kidney failure. I don't know what else I can do. I've been praying to St. Francis of Assisi all morning, just hoping for good news. He has to keep fighting. But I don't want him to suffer. I'm hoping and praying that whatever needs to be done will be done. This is one of my favorite songs at my church and Benton you've given me such joy, faith, hope and light. Hang in there buddy. Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy; O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. |

soon. Many Blesings and gentle hugs. Sue |
He's still with me, still fighting so that's all I can hope for. I went to see him after work and they let me hold him a few minutes. I don't know if it was my imagination playing tricks but I felt like he purred even though his eyes were half-closed. I'm trying to prepare myself but I just can't do it yet because deep down in my heart I know he's not ready to leave just yet. And I'm not ready to lose him either yet. They ran a lot of tests and found out his one kidney is not functioning at all. But he can survive with one kidney if he pulls through this.
Thank you everyone for praying for Benton. :grouphug: I'm sure he hears them and I hope it's giving him some strength to keep fighting. |
Still praying. . . . .and I believe he knew you were there. I'm sure that gave him strength - pets know who loves them.

Praying for healing and strength  |
Still praying for little Benton, BJ. I have just thought about him so much - I guess 'cause I have cats, too, and know just how much they enrich my life. Benton knows how much you love him - cats know these things. It's in God's hands now and I know that He will do what's best for Benton. I'm still praying, tho......

I hope you're right Kelly that he knows how much I love him and need him. You know that I heard the words "prepare yourself" and I just can't do it :(

Update???
How's Benton???
|
Thanks for asking and still praying for Benton. I was at the ER clinic most of the day with him. He has CRF and is still on IV fluids, with Pepcid AC, Alternagel and Ampicillin. He's still throwing up his food so they started giving him Reglan. When I was there he was gnawing at his IV which seemed like a good sign. But he seemed to not be right and started holding his head in a funny way. I called the tech that was there and she examined him and said he's in respiratory distress. They stopped the IV fluids and did a chest x-ray right away. They found fluid build-up around his lungs and his heart seemed a little big on the x-rays. They're moving him to an internist in the AM for an echocardiogram. They're using an oxygen cage to help with his breathing problems until they know what's happening.
I didn't want to leave him because I can't help feeling that this is the beginning of the end. I was holding him today and told him I'm going to do everything in my power buddy to help you get better and bring you home again. |
(((BJ))) I continue to pray for both you and Benton.
|
oh BJ :( I had so hoped he would be showing much improvement today.
I do pray that he will be able to get through this and be able to come home to you  |
