Urgent Prayers Needed Please!!!(long Sorry)

Prayers needed badly............

After a phone call at 7 am this morning I have spnt most of the day in the er today.

Not for myself althought I would it rather have been me then who it was.

Jakes brand new 13 day old baby brother was running a fever this morning of 102.7.....
Yes his mother was freaked out as was I when I hung up from her. I t dressed and took the 2 boys and Jess (thier mom) to the hospital in the next town over (45 minutes away).

The er doc (not a peds dr of course) checked him out, ordered antiobtics, had them put in an IV and ordered a blood test. Then he came back in and informed us he was going to have to have an LP........
YES..I got a huge lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.....I almost lost it.....

Did I mention he is only 13 days old?????? my heart was breaking. He then made us all leave the room and did the LP. Gave him some tylonol and admitted him to a room. (finally got in one at 12:20)

The peds nurse was wonderful......but she did tell us they were going to hold the antibotics...I asked hre why and all she would tell us was his ped dr would explain when he got there at 6:00..........I was livid......but during all this time though his fever did drop down to 99 and just seemed to hang there.

Well I had Jake all this time lugging him around.Chasing after him....I took him to walmart to buy him diapers....they had none for him.....and a new outfit and some shoes as he was only wearing a flannel sleeper when I picked them up.....also got some toys and colors and coloring book to keep him happy at the hospital............so about 3:00 I came home with Jake in tow.

When Sissy got home at 4:30 she took off to the hospital and she stopped and got the boys daddy (he had not went because he was working on thier broken down car at home.

The peds dr got there around 6 after his hours at his office had closed.
He informed Jess that the LP done earlier didnt take. The er dr had only gotten blood...no fluid. so..............they had to do another one........and because the er had given him antibotics that the test may be tainted and not show true......The had put a catheter in because the urine sample they had goten before was just from a baggie taped over him penis and it was a true sample because he had not been circumcised. So now they needed a "clean" sample.
They think he may have meningitis..............I am worried sick about it.........
I knew NOTHING about it when they were mentioning it to us there....had heard the term but knew nothing.........that poor girl was looking at me with tears in her eyes...and I couldnt give her any guidance......just hugged her.....
But Justin The baby) or froggy.as I call him sure could use your prayers...nd the family especially his momma could for sure.....
The dr had also told us that a baby under 3 weeks shouldnt ever have a temp that high....that they are still feeding off the natural protection from the mother and from the womb......the only answer to it was something serious.........

PRAYER WARRIORS PLEASE JOIN ME.............

I know alot of you who know me have heard tales of my Jake most of his life.......(2 whole years)...now his baby bro needs us......
and I really needed to talk to someone about it....You all are the lucky ones I turn too.........I am supposed to start my new job tomorrow and I have Jake!!!!!
Thanks in advance for the prayers I know you all will share............

sabimax 03-17-2008 07:53 PM

wow prayers headin their way....so why did they do the LP...?? thinking meningitis....???

If it helps any...one of mine had a fever of 103 when newborn, and fully nursing, we brought her in and she was tested,.but just blood and urine samples....she was sent home and now is a whopping 13 years old....just mentioning this...as I never had a dr say that they shouldnt have a fever...I think it is uncommon..but can happen...

hugssss and good luck hugsssssss to the family and you, sarah

AfterMyNap 03-17-2008 07:56 PM

You've got it, make sure Jess knows she's being lifted up with Justin, okay? ><>

Taffy 03-17-2008 08:00 PM

I will be praying that everything goes ok for the little guy.

SandyC 03-17-2008 08:05 PM

Kay, my Nik ran such a high temp as a child that the thermometer was buried and we didn't know how high it was. They too suspected meningitis and he had a seizure to boot. Talk about scared to death! It was not meningitis but was pneumonia and we were thankful for that. Anyway, as you know Nik is here and thriving.

My prayers are going up that they get a clean LP and it shows clear for meningitis. Is it possible for dad to come and get Jake so you can work tomorrow? Maybe your daughter can take off from school so you can go in?

slskckjebw 03-17-2008 08:10 PM

I am so sorry. We just experenced the same thing with our grandaughter. My daughter had the strep B virus. They knew before she had the baby and treated her with an antibiotic right before and during labor. That is the standard treatment when a pregnant lady is found to have an active case in her vaginal area and near her delivery time.

Our grand daughter and daughter both were fine after delievery and left the hospital after 2 days. Things were going along ok for about a week a half. The day my grand daughter was 13 days old my daughter called to say the baby had a temp of almost 103. I told her to get to the ER!! They went and she called after a few hours. She told me they did not know what was wrong with the baby and were doing blood tests and an LP.

The LP did not work. They could not get enough fluid. They started her on 3 different antibiotics and drew a bunch of blood. They also had to cath her.

They did another LP the following morning but still did not get enough fluid. The following day all of the other blood tests came back. My grand daughter had meningitis. They felt it was cause by the strep b virus she picked up at birth. The doctor said it probably was in her nose and ended up in her blood stream.

She was in the hospital on IV antibiotic for 14days. She is 2 months old now and perfectly fine.

If he is on antibiotic things should be fine. I know it is scary but you would be very surprised to know how common this is. Sometimes the out come is not so great, but it is was caught early, and it sounds like it was, things will be fine.

I forgot to explain that meningitis can occur when the strep b passes the blood brain barrier.

You can find out a lot about it if you do a search. It is scary, but I am sure things will be fine.

lady_express_44 03-17-2008 08:21 PM

Lots of prayers and hugs coming your way.

My baby had a high temp too, and they thought mennigitis as well. She didn't have it. Does he have a rash (on his torso, I think).

As far as the LP, they normally put kids out for that now, and they seem to recover very, very well.

I understand your loving concern . . . and hope all good things.

Cherie

Take care Kay and know that you have lots of support here. Keep us posted on what's going on .... Hugs to you and that new little one...

Sending hugs and kisses to "Froggie"....and to you too, Kay.

SallyC 03-17-2008 10:25 PM

Special prayers are on the way for our little Froggy and for You and Mommy and Daddy too.

Twinkletoes 03-17-2008 10:52 PM

Oh man, Kay, that is scary stuff! Poor little Froggie having to endure all that. :(

Sending prayers up from Utah. Hope all is well and that this nightmare ends very soon.

TwoKidsTwoCats 03-17-2008 10:59 PM

Prayers... you bet. Will be FROGGING (Fully Relying on God) for little Froggy.

My nephew had a very high fever when he was 10 days old. They first thought it was meningitis... but tests said no. It turned out he had RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). That was 6 years ago and the small country hospital doc had no clue about it, so he wasn't looking for RSV.

My nephew recovered, but still has respiratory problems during allergy season. When he gets a cold they immediately start breathing treatments for him.

Kitty 03-18-2008 05:21 AM

Oh, dear - such scary stuff when it's a baby and they can't tell you what's going on. He's in the right place - they can take good care of him there. Great big prayers are being said for baby Justin. Please keep us posted on his progress.

Jodylee 03-18-2008 05:40 AM

I'm so sorry this is happening to Justin and your whole family. Im sending prayers and good thoughts your way. Sometimes it seems like there is just so much incompetence in er's. Maybe it's because they are just trying so hard to find out what's wrong so quickly (especially with such a tiny baby) that they rush through everything at first. I'm thinking about all of you.

MSCherokee 03-18-2008 05:45 AM

Aw Kay,

Serious prayers are on the way to "Froggy" and your whole family. Hope the little guy's doing better real soon!

soxmom 03-18-2008 06:41 AM

Oh Kay 13 days old is too young to go thru this.:( But the op made
this sound as if it might not be uncommon. May the little one be
blessed and his family too.

Im sure you have figured out the right thing to do this a.m., good luck
with that.

Let us know how everyone is doing. You are a good egg.:)

FlyFishin Momma 03-18-2008 08:48 AM

Thanks everyone for your prayers and words of support.

It was a very rough night. Jake slept with me......were neiter one used to that....he had two nightmares and ended up crying so hard he threw uo....I made i over the sink ith him both times....Saved the bed.....
Not to mention we had massive storm come through and rained all night and still is...

My face and eyes are so swollen I can barley see......

Jake wathes Scooby Doo...Insainly crazy about it...but......I worry it might be the reason for the nightmares............(he has them EVERYNIGHT)...now what could a 2 year old be so worried and scared of to have them like that?

He kept grabbing his left ear and crying oooowwwweee.....But he wasnt even awake. I gave him some motrin this morning I am already praying for naps through out the day...

Guess the new job will have to wait......dont have any one to watch Jake....
If the hospital wasn so far I would take him there and go back and get him when I got off but has a tank of gas......might as well not even work today ...wont make that muh money lol...

anyway...thanks again all for the prayers. I have not heard anything this morning...but will update when I do.

All positive thoughts and prayers coming your way, Kay!

SandyC 03-18-2008 11:24 AM

Continuing prayers for the little one. Maybe Jake has an ear infection? If not, maybe night terrors? I had night terrors until I was in the 6th grade on a regular basis. The last big one was with me standing on the ledge of our two story apartment window screaming. I still don't know why I was up there but I was banging on the window. The last mild one I had was about ten years ago. I jumped up from the bed and ran screaming to the utility room. Jim found me sitting on the washer in a fright. Don't remember why on that one either. Apparently night terrors are common among children. No rhyme or reason, it just happens. I'll pray that Jake is OK too. Sounds like an earache if he's grabbing his ear though. Hugs to you and the family.

DAY1 03-18-2008 06:49 PM

I'm so sorry this is going on Kay.

Have they said anything about the baby yet?
My kids pulled at their ears everytime they had an ear infection.

Sounds like too much going on. Missing the first day of work probably seems like the least of your worries, but I know you have been so excited about it.

Doesn't look like the storms are going to let up any time soon. So it may be another restless night.

Update us when you can. I know when it's storming it's not that easy to get online.

Take care sweetie. Prayers going up.

I'm so sorry! And sorry I just saw all this now.

I won't even bother to say don't worry. When it was our grandbaby, I barely came home from the hospital for five days.

I know, you worry.

Hugs and prayers.

FlyFishin Momma 03-18-2008 08:39 PM

just talked to Jess.....

Justins white blood count is through the roof.
They were asking the kids where they had the baby and who had he been around one week ago from monday. They had taken the daddys SIL to the dr...(like they needed that baby out but I cant tell them anything)
It was actually at an ob/gyn office....
But now they are treating him for the meningitis ...........
They are not sure still what kind ......
For the record this is not my grandhild. This is just a very young couple we know and have sorta unofficaly adopted the son Jake....now my DD is attaching to the baby....we had said we were not going to do it bu...how can ya help it? They are not very smart parents.
If this was my Gbaby he would have already been moved to Childrens Hospital in St. Louis.

They also told us to keep an eye on Jake. If he gets a fever about 100 I am to get him to the er there and he will have to have the LP as well.......

I am so praying he doesnt get one at all.........THAT would break my heart.

We are having major flash floods here today....were up to 6 1/2 inches...and there is more to come....This type of weather is so hard on my physically. Plus my sinius are a mess.....the swollen eyes never went down today.

Thank God I got Jake here to keep me laughing....he is truely the bestest medicine for this old gal !!!!!!!!!!

He never complained not one time about his ear..and I just got him in bed and no trouble then either but now I am worried.......the headache is one of the major sx of the meningitis...what if the ear thing was a headache? He is only 2 he cant really tell me whats going on......I am just really stressed and worried sick now.
They told John and Jess that Justin could have brain damage from this....but they are hoping they got it in time...........
Guess TIME is in control of all of this and only time will tell.........

Please continue to keep these kids in your prayers......

Dorothy (DAY)-----Keep afloat my friend.......looks like maybe another 24 hours of it... and look out folks to our east........its comming your way............

Taffy 03-18-2008 09:00 PM

Thanks for the update and will keep praying that this little guy is okay.

ewizabeth 03-18-2008 09:00 PM

Prayers going out for that poor baby and the entire family. And you too Kay! I hope he'll be better soon and that little Jake won't get sick.

barb02 03-18-2008 09:12 PM

Just wanted to add that I am also sending up prayers for the baby and Jake too. Hang in there.

SandyC 03-18-2008 09:23 PM

I am still praying that the little one will be fine and that Jake wont get sick. I know this is probably not the time Kay, but if Jake does get sick, you may want to mention to the er to have you checked out since meningitis is contagious. I know that's not your biggest concern, but you need to be well to watch out for those babies from what you told us.

Riverwild 03-19-2008 01:59 AM

Thinking of you all here, Kay.

Prayers out to the Big Man so everyone gets allll better!!!

Koala77 03-19-2008 03:14 AM

I'm sorry I didn't see this before Kay, but I've just got back on line, and I'm sorry to hear about the pain you and your friend's little man are going through.

Big hugs to all of you from Australia. Get well soon Froggie.
