burning during and after peeing
I've recently been feeling a very strong burning sensation while peeing and then after peeing the burning lasts for another 45 minutes to an hour (after taking advil). Could this mean that I have a bladder infection or a urinary tract infection?
About 10 years ago, when I was 7, I had a bladder infection which makes me really feel that this could be the same thing. I have never had sex so I am hoping this is just something out of the blue and maybe it will go away because about a year ago I was feeling these same types of pains and they went away after about 2 weeks or so. I am affraid to tell my parents because I do not want to go through the painful doctor visits again. Any suggestions?:( |
I am not a doctor but it sounds as though you could have a urinary tract infection or other type of infection.
IMHO you need to tell mom so she can take you to the doctor. In most cases they ask for a urine sample and they can get the results of an infection in just minutes. If its positive most likely they will give you an antibiotic and you will feel better in the next couple of days. You shouldn't let it go because it can get worse. Let mom know:) |

I agree. See a doctor - don't let it go. |
I was having the similar thing last week, but it didn't hurt that long after going.
natural helps are- cranberry juice, lots of water, those AZO pills {concentrated cranberry extract} or something like them. avoid junk foods and sugary foods but you really should let your mother know about this , maybe she would let you try the natural approach first. Mine turned around in 2 days and no problems now. but looottss of water to flush out the bacteria. |
many things...
There are many things that can cause female burning...
1) acidic urine may burn... high Vit C intake is one cause. But acidic urine may be from lifestyle as well (food) 2) over use and improper rinsing of soap from the female genitalia may inflame membranes and cause discomfort. Soap residue from washing clothing, or use of fabric softeners can do this too. Double rinse clothing if in doubt and don't use softeners with underwear. 3) Wearing very tight clothing, or thongs. (thongs have been implicated in bladder infections and vaginal infections in women). 4) Yeast infections irritate also. There is a test now (not cheap) in drugstores that you can use to screen yourself. Other than yeast there are other organisms that can be there too. Yeast can follow antibiotic treatments in women as well. Real bladder infections are very painful. Irritations are more common and often mistaken for them. So there are things you can do-- be a detective. |
Troubles---
This is all so true mrsd. Thank you;)

Feeling better
Thank you all for the help. I have definitly been drinking a lot more water recently and so far there has been only a little bit of pain but not much at all. I am trying the natural approach and so far it looks to be working.
Once again thanks for the help :):grouphug: |
Uh oh...maybe not better

Any other suggestion to make the pain go away? |
It could be because you were sleeping all night- after some fluids you might feel better.
Plain aspirin? might help you can't get to a store for the AZO type pills or cranberry juice? If it hurts bad or for more than a day - you really should talk with your mom. There shouldn't be any need for a invasive Dr appt. just the pee in a cup type:cool: [I am affraid to tell my parents because I do not want to go through the painful doctor visits again. ] |
some links about it-
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search you might double check all the symptoms on the links to see if they fit for you. Then you'll have a better idea if it is or not. Might be something else if most symptoms don't match up. |
Real cranberry juice not cranberry cocktail juice--
100% cranberry juice not cranberry cocktail juice if you go that route. Hope you get better soon:winky:

Trying to pick my words very carefully as I am not a woman and offering advice.:o
I've been operated on 6 times for a strictured urethra. Pain and burning while urrinating and afterwards is just a part of my life as none of the urologists can give me a permanent fix. I'm just throwing this out there as a possibility that your gyno or a uro can check. (After my expirience with this, I hope you don't have it). They use a cystoscope (???) to check the urethra if I remember correctly. And I apologize if I have overstepped my bounds. |

The pain is still as intense as it used to be but I always tell myself that it will go away, just give it time. Sure enough the pain will be gone in a matter of 10 minutes to an hour. Does it sound like I should go to the doctor? |
Do you also have the feeling like you have to urinate very very often, and when you go nothing much comes out? But soon you feel like you need to go again?
Hmm - it's been over 2 weeks since you first posted here - so I think yes it's time for a dr appt. I think if it was going to turn around for you with home/self care it would have gone away by now. It really shouldn't be an embarrassing or painful appt. Most likely just a urine sample needed, and they test it. Of course if the test comes out negative for infection, then more investigation is needed. |
cranberry...
Cranberries contain a substance that helps prevent bacteria from sticking to
the wall of the bladder. It does NOT cure an infection already in place. It is mostly for prevention. There are capsules/tablets of the extract which I think are better. Most of the juices are dilute and full of sugar. A real bladder infection involves a stabbing sharp pain in the urethra when you void. And that may last a while...or not depending. Frequency and urgency are other signs. You can have a dull ache over your public bone, and if really severe a fever or flu like symptoms. There are tablets sold in stores in the Feminine hygiene section that contain phenazopyridine. This is an orange dye that numbs the bladder and helps with pain. It does NOT cure infection either, but helps until you can get to a doctor. You can read about it here: http://www.azoproducts.com/products/azo_standard |
another thing:
If you take baths in water with Calgon added or bubble bath salts,
you may increase likelihood of bladder infections. These chemicals strip away the protective mucous from the membranes down there, and allow bacteria to get a foothold and go right up the urethra and into the bladder. |
Have you been tested for a bladder infection yet?
If those AZO tablets don't work, another way to go would be to look into taking Prelief tablets to change the acidity of your urine. Stop drinking the Cranberry and stick to water only. You should be able to get the Prelief tablets at most Drug Stores. Also, there are two other things (uncommon) that you might look into down the road. They are called Intersitial Cystitis and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. These things are not very common at all. However, I think that having a bladder infection is by far, the most common situation. And by the way, I have had tests come out negative and cultures come out positive. I needed the antibiotics! If I didn't have the culture, I would NOT have known until things got MUCH worse.Untreated bladder infections can lead to a kidney infection and this can get serious. Don't let this pain continue. Almost always, the test simply requires urinating in a cup. I'll give you a little hint. If you are afraid of seeing a urologist...then go to a family doctor or GP. |
Go to the doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I had a bladder infection as a kid I took the "orange dye" as a medication to make it better. I haven't had any pain for the past few days now so I am wondering if it's better...but if I feel any more pain then I will let my mom know that I need to go to the doc's. Thank you all for your support. Your advice and words of encouragement have helped me get through this and I think you might have cured me :D I will keep you all posted :grouphug: |
