just returned from Neuro. checkup

I get a checkup every four months.

I'm on Betaseron and and take Ritalin-SR(20mg) once a day for fatigue.

My biggest symptom is the fatigue. I've tried Provigil  and that didn't work.

Amantadine had the same  effect.

I even tried both of them at the same time.:Yawn:

Then I moved onto Ritalin-SR(20mg). Okay. But...

It's supposed to work for the whole day. Fine for the morning but by the afternoon:Yawn: ...

Then, regular Ritalin(20mg) 2xday was added.

Okay. The doc says today...

Just take the SR and not the others.:Dunno:

So... now I'm relatively back to square one. Severe-Fatigue
stinks

Just thought I'd share that with all of you :)

Severe fatigue is a rough symptom to cope with, and one of my worst as far as day-to-day symptoms. I can't handle too many meds, but have had a bit of luck with what I've tried.

They first tried me on antidepressants (although I did not test clinically depressed). I was having a lot of attacks back then, so I couldn't tell if it helped.

When I went on LDN, that helped a fair bit with the fatigue. After about one year, I weaned myself from the Celexa (didn't need it anyway), and my fatigue level improved CONSIDERABLY.

I admit I still have this as a symptom . . . but I used to sleep 3 4 times a day, and sometimes 20 - 24 hrs of each day. I have not had that problem since starting LDN and going off Celexa, even though I have gone through attacks since then.

Hope you find something that works and can be combined with the "B".

Thanks :)

Yeah. He nodded and shook his head in saying, 'I don't know. We'll just have to see.'

I nodded back and said, "See ya in four months."

As crummy as the fatigue is now, it's manageable because it's cold out.

But with Spring/Summer/early-fall, I'm out for the count.:Zzzz:

instead of using ritalin has anyone thought of the time released think its concerta? and there may be another one, forget what its called, because i will tell u this when i first took provgil 200mg i actually got a sugar burn out from it.

it was great at frist but then a few hours later i was burned out so I started breaking tab in half took one at 6 am and one at 11 am made a world of diff for me and i didnt get that sugar burn out effect, just thinking maybe a time release may help in the same way, just a thought

So sorry

hi Niko,

I'm sorry that your neuro didn't help you much today. My first reaction is - don't just settle for just waiting four more months - but I am pretty assertive, especially when it comes to my healthcare. There are things that can be done for the fatigue...and if you're concerned about things declining as the weather warms...well, if you can, I'd suggest "fighting" to have your needs met.

Also, provigil did not work for me.

My doc put me on Daytrana - it's a med for ADHD (i think it's same med at ritalin: METHYLPHENIDATE ) but it is a patch you wear - and so the release is consistent throughout the day. You wear it for 9 hrs and it continues to work for 3 more after you remove it.

I believe it is working very well for me. I dont have the ups-and-downs of fatigue throughout the day...

Good luck in however you choose to proceed.

I wouldn't be able to wait 4 months.

I take Adderral XR, which I think is also a med for ADHD. I take it 2x a day, when needed. It is extened relsease so it lasts throughout the day. I definitely need it to get me through a long day. Sometimes on the weekends I will not take any.

Good luck!

This is just my experienced opinion, but maybe its the drugs.. or.. you are toxic, deficient. A build up from medications CAN and DOES reach a tolerance or can turn into a toxicity in your body/brain.

The reason I say that is because I had severe fatigue, I mean I was weak and could hardly walk. Some days I couldn't hold up my head and work. Turned out my adrenals were working overtime. AND I was toxic and very deficient for many nutrients.

So, I saw this wondeful nutritionist who did this amazing eval and got me started on "whole foods" with nutrients for exactly what I needed. It didnt interfere with any meds as its a FOOD, not a supplement.

I also had "scar therapy" done as cutting from surgery cuts through nerve endings and interferes with the brains ability to conduct messages and heal itself.

All I know is that the SEVERE fatigue, weakness dissipated and my neuro was so amazed he sends me back to this guy with any new symptoms.

Cleansing the liver/colon, naturally, also helps eliminate toxic build-up. Health food stores sell these kits. Its better to cleanse your liver first one week, then colon next week. You really feel the difference and feel better.

Good luck,

Jan

That's very interesting. I guess like with MS (different varieties)
there are different varieties of severe fatigue.

With me, the fatigue is the thinking-kind... can't think straight, can't focus... and when that comes to a head, physical tiredness.

But my physical strength is fine. My neuro said, while testing my muscles --"better not get in a fight with you"... and I replied "cos you'd lose". And he nodded and backed away while waving his hands to get the blood flowing again.

I can easily carry 60lbs of weight for quite some distance.

My mind gets tired first.

:Sigh:
