Riverwild Guess Where I went Yesterday?
Can you guess?? It was snowing so hard I couldn't even get a decent picture but the water was high, funny but there was even a bunch of people flyfishing! the road was very bumping!
You guessed it I am sure we were up on the Golden Road and crossed the Telose Bridge (where it was snowing so hard) We could see Katahdin in all her glory on the way in but when we came out she was totally gone (snowing again) It was funny cause if you didn't know there was a mountain there you certainly wouldn't of thought there was! We would go along and it was sunny and beautiful and then all of a sudden snowing so hard you couldn't see 20' in from of you.... Welcome to Maine! Thought of you many many times! Hope all is well! |

I used to love being on the river in the morning with customers, and telling them that there was a huge mountain right in front of us. No one would believe me and then the clouds would clear after a bit of sun and VOILA!! There would be Katahdin looming up right there!! Then I would have to tell them to stop looking at it and PADDLE!! LOL! ( for those of you who don't know what we are talking about the pic in my signature is the Cribworks, my favorite rapid of all time and the mountain is in the attached photo below this post, taken from the West Branch of the Penobscot River at Abol Bridge) |
it was open all the way down. What a beautiful day it was even though it was snowing at times. I just love the North Maine Woods!!!
I thought of you so many times.... wish you were there! ;) |

YB, glad you had fun on your trip. I haven't seen snow like that in a long, long time. I know to others that are sick of the snow it doesn't sound all that great to have so much and so thick but to me. . . LOL. |
RW and Yeahbut - was in Greenville this past weekend - sleet, snow and Moosehead still iced in but did see cars towing boats so I know there's open water somewhere up there and fishing season must be open - (mud season on the logging roads) - a lot more snow up in Rockwood - didn't see Katahdin but did see Kineo and Big and Little Spencer through the snow - not a moose or even a track - but spring finally made it down here in the south - almost all the snow is gone

LOL!!!:D
Today I got up and immediately opened the windows. No, it's not 60 yet but it smells in here from being closed up all winter! There were two teenagers out on the open water in a tiny peapod with a trolling motor on it. They were fishing. AS I watched them I realized they were also ramming the ice repeatedly to break it and the running up the edge to plow it out of the way! I opened the door and cheered them on! They looked a lil nervous when they saw the fat old woman in the red union suit on her stairs  but then they realized I liked what they were doing and went at it with gusto! Results? The water is open to just below my dock now!:p |
yeeeehaaaa! spring is here!!!!!

Yet another lovely afternoon!!
Spring is getting closer! I saw a goose riding an ice floe this morning when I got home! Too bad he was downstream from my yard! The open water is a LOT closer now! |

Updated pics from the back door!
#1 looking at the dock #2 just upstream from the dock #3 from the front wall #4 looking across the lake #5 the other end of the part of the lake I am on If you look hard enough at #5, you can see open water waaaay up there coming towards us too! Soon that sheet of ice out there will be blowing back and forth in the wind and will sink in a few days, turning the water over and bringing the warm water from the bottom of the lake to the top! Click on the pics after they load for a closer view! Enjoy my side of spring! It's supposed to hit the 70s today!!! :D |
Yay! It looks fantastic! Your little slice of heaven makes me homesick for inland lake life. Those were the days.;)
|
yup, 70 today - I got my sandles on!
|
I am on my way up to the Canadian Border today. It will be a lot colder up that way, but I plan to enjoy it anyway! I'm going to take the road Yabbit was on last week. I'll try to get some pics on the way! It should be spectacular since it's clear and sunny!
It's already gorgeous here! It sure makes you appreciate how nice it is after the winter we have had! We're down to one fire a day now, starting it at night and just loading enough to keep it going until the next night. Looks like the old woodpile outlasted the season again!:D |
RW those pics are gorgeous. I am jealous! Do you rent out any space...will be willing to rent for a vacation! :icon_lol:
Hope you enjoy your trip today. Hopefully you get some good pics! |
Have a great trip!

Well, didn't get to the Golden Road yesterday, late start. No pics of the mountain either, too hazy, but it was a beautiful day, warm and sunny.
Today, another lovely day, made more so by my first LOON! They're baaaaack! If he gets close enough, I'll get a pic. I can tell spring has sprung another way!!! Check this out as compared to yesterday morning's pics!!!! The last one is my house after I fixed it all up...LMOA!! As you can see from the first pic, that's all that's left of the winter horror!!! |
that isn't your house it's mine.... can't you see me in the window waving to you? :p

Ya might be thinkin' us Mainiacs don't have our priorities straight but I hafta to tell you that we do!!
I was down to Hussey's today, yanno, down there on Rt.#32 in Windsor and I see they have revived their voting on the top three sellers. I thought y'all might wanna see how the vote came out!! It's truly on their sign. |
It doesn't sound funny to me, RW, shotgun weddings are a great American tradition and it's widely known that beer is required to seal the deal.
|
I love Hussey's General Store - my gosh, I went there two years ago and bought a beautiful dress for DBF brothers wedding - cost me $22! Still love it!
