Favorite food and food you won't eat

After the stress of the medical issues we have had over the months, I thought of a good thread to start hoping it takes off.

Last weekend we had a family dinner for my mother's birthday and were at Benihana's restaurant, GREAT food and very fun. The topic of favorite foods and stuff we won't eat came up and I ended up sounding very picky about my food, I wonder what you all eat and am I that strange.

FAVORITE FOODS

Any shellfish, lobster crab, shrimp
Steak (medium warm red and juicy)
Pasta
Mexican
Sushi
beer

FOOD I WON'T Eat--seriously, want to know my secrets torture me with any of these . I WILL NOT EAT THEM under torture or anything else

Mushrooms (it's a fungus for crying out loud)
Peanut butter (it's a texture thing)
Cooked Carrots (raw are yummy)
Peas
asparagus
brussel sprouts
yams or sweet potatos

ok, spill it, what does your pallet like/hate

Twinkletoes 04-16-2008 11:07 PM

Hey Earl? How you been? How is your missus doing? Hope things are looking up for you two.

Hmmm, you won't eat mushrooms? I remember having to sit at the dinner table for about an hour cause I wouldn't eat the funny little brown square things in my mother's potato casserole. She used cream of mushroom soup -- I didn't know what a mushroom was, or what it looked like before it went in the can, just that they were ugly and I didn't want to eat them!!!

What? You like Sushi? It's raw fish fer cryin' out loud!!!

Don't particularly like anything that came from the ocean, except shrimp and clam chowder.

My teeth can't touch bone -- so I can't eat chicken wings. It's a sensory thing. I don't like all those tendons and ligaments and vein things in a chicken leg, either. When I was growing up, chickens only had breasts, Lol!!!

I tried a snail once. They taste better than they look with their shells still on.

I agree with you on most of the veggies.

Love all fruits.

And chocolate.

And nuts, except hazelnuts.

Walnuts don't belong in salad. Shrimp doesn't go with pasta and should be outlawed.

AZJanie should post here -- she'll eat ANYTHING!!!

My favorite meal: leftovers or something someone else cooked!!! :D

tovaxin_lab_rat 04-16-2008 11:29 PM

PEAS
I won't eat peas.

I don't care for sweet potatoes/yams, grits, hush puppies...don't get them...but, I think they are an acquired taste.

but peas make me throw up. period, end of story.

Favorite foods?

I love a good steak, bbq'd chicken, mashed potatotes, asparagus, shellfish, actually any kind of fish expect for salmon (I am allergic to it...not just slightly, but deadly!), peanut butter, cereal...LOVE cereal. Yogurt, and ice cream, but it has to be good ice cream, not just any ice cream. I am allergic to cheesecake.

Fruit --- peaches, rhubarb, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, oranges and bananas.

and coffee...I love my coffee.(anything but Starbucks - blech!) ..and of course I saved the best for last.

CHOCOLATE. I love chocolate. I have become a picky chocolate eater too...actually a chocolate snob! I admit it...

Good idea Earl...nice to see you here again. Missed your ugly mug!

Koala77 04-17-2008 12:30 AM

Things I like:

Most shellfish: lobster, scallops, prawns but not oysters!!
I really like chicken.....cooked any way at all
I like beef, pork or lamb, especially roasted
Most fruits and vegetables are OK, even mushrooms but not asparagus or pumpkin

Things I don't like :

See above for asparagus, pumpkin and oysters!
Avocado
Snails or raw fish....read sushi here.....
Pastry
And I'm not overly fussed about ice-cream or chocolate! Yes I know......I'm wierd

Edit: Pumpkin does to me what peas do to you Av8rgirl! :(

tamiloo 04-17-2008 01:41 AM

Well…Well…

I love food, not all food…

It’s easier to start with things I won’t eat:

I don’t like Lobster oysters…icky…Sushi…no way. My meat has to be cooked, however I do like my steak on the rare side. No way could you get me to eat snail either. Ate some fried squid once…like chewing on a fried pencil eraser choing choing…I don’t like seafood in my Mexican or Italian foods…Twink I’m with you one the seafood in pasta dishes.

My favorite meal is Thanksgiving with all the trimmings. I am a country girl so I love mashed potatoes…and all that stuff.

I love pasta of any make or model. At least once and sometimes twice a week we have pasta dish…make a mean spaghetti.

I’m not big on ice cream…lactose problems:eek:

I love cheese of any kind…live just five miles from a cheese factory!

I will eat all veggies and fruits of any kind.

Don’t like soda pop unless it is a cherry coke or a root beer, not just any…it has to be a Barq’s.

Oh…bread and butter and jam…

The Olhipie worked for Nestle’ Foods before he got MS so chocolate is a food group at our house…the brown food group, HA!!!

Twink...so your chickens only had breasts....hmmmmm....

oldsteve 04-17-2008 03:36 AM

Tamiloo, sushi does not have to be raw fish. That's sashimi. I actually like both. But sushi itself is rice that may be rolled up in a seaweed wrap with various veggies and/or raw fish. I like tuna best. Since I was born in NM, I like spicy foods. Green chile, not chili, makes everything better. On pizza, cheese burgers, and anything else! And not that canned crap from the grocery store, either. Since both my parents are from the south, I also learned to love fried chicken and most anything with southern gravy on it. Not the best stuff for the waistline, but yummy nonetheless.

PolarExpress 04-17-2008 04:28 AM

Things I LOVE to eat:
Nearly anything put on a pizza
Fish, shellfish
Most veggies
Chocolate..I'm not elitist. Hershey's with almonds still my fave (or Cadbury)..
Buttered popcorn

Things I won't touch:
Hominy
Other than chicken/fish, not a big meat fan (unless it's on above mentioned pizza)..
Liver (nope, not even on pizza)

Blessings2You 04-17-2008 05:05 AM

Oh my my my. I love ALL food groups--meat, pasta, veggies, fruit, dessert, everything. Including the stuff everybody else doesn't like: asparagus, brussels sprouts, black olives, spinach, mushrooms, broccoli.

Favorites? Don't even know if I can narrow it down to ten, but I'll try:
Chocolate
Spaghetti
Ice cream
Eggs
Pizza
Winter squash
Fresh garden cucumbers
Baked potato with sour cream
Chicken (leave it alone, Cindy)
Chocolate (I know, I love it twice)

What I don't like? Except for oysters, I'll eat almost anything normal. Abnormal would include the stuff on those creepy TV shows, like fried bugs and worms, etc.

I tried tripe once. Didn't like it even when I thought it was some kind of fish. Now I REALLY don't like it, bleah bleah.

I'm not into lima beans, but they're okay mixed in with stuff. They taste like sheet rock, kinda.

Maybe there's something else I don't like. I'll put my thinking cap on.

FinLady 04-17-2008 07:53 AM

Favorite foods;

Cheeseburgers
Pizza
Crab
Shrimp
Spinach
Chocolate (of course) ;)

Foods I won't touch:

Liver

Anything with Rasberry in it (i'm allergic)
Tofu
chick peas

Kitty 04-17-2008 07:56 AM

I love food threads!! :D

I'll start with the shortest list (foods I don't like):

Oysters
Cooked Spinach
Meat with bones in it or skin on it (has to be boneless & skinless)
Pumpkin
Mushrooms
Guacamole
Jalapeno Peppers
Milk (can you believe it!!)

Most everything else I like. Being from the south I do like most fried foods (okra, gren tomatoes, chicken livers, etc.).

Mayfield Chocolate Chip and Bryer's Oreo are my favorite ice creams.

I wasn't hungry till I started writing this.............

Riverwild 04-17-2008 08:11 AM

Favorites?
Seafood, any and all seafood! Baked, broiled fried and raw...SEAFOOD

Dark Chocolate, GOOD dark chocolate, 70% cocoa or better.

and pretty much everything else except what's listed below!

Nasties?
I'm with Flygirl here...PEAS...blech, ptooey, NOOOO...if there's a pea on my plate, I ain't eatin'...Liver, tripe, okra, lima beans, turnip, uncooked egg whites...I ain't eatin' them either, not even if you PAY me!!!

AfterMyNap 04-17-2008 08:26 AM

Good/love:

Meat. Meat. Beef, bison, lamb, venison, pork, poultry, rabbit, caribou.
Halibut.
Shellfish. Mild allergy, don't care!
Nuts. All of 'em.
Carbs, potatoes over-baked, crusty bread, pretzels, rice.
Ice cream (should be a legit food group)
Mexican, Chinese, Greek.
Fritos
Cheese, only good cheeses.
Fresh fruit and raw veggies all the way.
Salsa.
Cold cereal, bring it on!
Coffee. Coffee. Coffee.
Beer, blender fun, whiskey.... wine.... cordials....

Yuck/hate/hide from it:

Slimy stuff.
Mushrooms, yams, olives, beets, oysters, any organ "meats", overcooked veggies, most sauces/gravies, canned goods.
Brussels sprouts, chard, pate, guacamole.
Candy, I just don't like it that much (yes, even chocolate).
Legumes and peas remind me of paste in kindergarten.
Anything too spicy, it just numbs the buds!
"Fancy" salads that look and taste like dandelions and mountain scrub.

This is shameful for an avid angler, but I don't really like fish. :o

MooseasaurusRex 04-17-2008 07:00 PM

I can eat anything. No. Seriously.

If I can put tobasco, salsa, or Italian dressing on it, I can eat it.

I even had bolonga made from horse in Romania.
And they use Thousand Island dressing for shrimp cocktails in Germany.
Turkey (the country), no telling what was in some of that stuff.

lor 04-17-2008 07:13 PM

I'll eat just about any food, but canned peas are too mushy for me. I like frozen peas. Most ppl say no to liver but I'll eat it with lots of sauted onions.

MelodyL 04-17-2008 07:16 PM

What on earth is Bolonga made from a horse??

Really, what is it?

I kid you not, beautiful. We were on a two week Meet and Greet sort of TDY (Temporary DutY) in Bucharest. We brought some C-130's over and actually gave thier goverment one. Former Eastern Bloc countries, mid 90's fall of Communism, let's be friends sort of thing. They were handing out sandwiches to us with the MREs. About an hour later one of the officers (who's English was spot on) told us it was horse meat.

I guess if you have enough spices to throw in, any meat can be bolonga.

Carolina 04-17-2008 10:42 PM

You've never tried tomatoes Carolina? Oh my goodness! You are in for a real treat when you come to visit me. There's nothing like fresh tomatoes straight out of the garden.

Here am I redecorating my spare bedroom for you, and you don't eat tomatoes?

We'll fix that, I'm sure :D

MelodyL 04-18-2008 09:17 AM

The absolute best tomato I ever ate in my whole life was the Beefsteak tomato that my godson grew in his backyard.

His mother sliced it, put it on a plate, drizzled some extra virgin olive oil on it, a dash of fresh lemon juice, some fresh garlic, a dash of salt and pepper to taste.

I thought I died and went to heaven.

I exclaimed. What is this?? This is the best tomato I have ever tasted (and believe me, I KNOW TOMATOES. I love tomatoes.

Never had the chance to repeat that experience.

But oh, that tomato!!!

It's true! Packaged tomatoes don't even taste like tomatoes! I never could figure that one out. And what's with "grape" flavor? Who ever had a grape that tasted anything like Bubble Yum grape? :Dunno:

FinLady 04-18-2008 10:58 AM

LOL! a couple of these reminded me of some of the things I won't eat. :D

Tomatoes - I only like it if it's been spiced up like for sauce and ketchup. Will not eat raw tomatoes or plain tomato soup

Beets - don't like these either

Cranberry sauce - won't eat this at Thanksgiving.

Sweet potatoes/yams - ick, ick, ick

AfterMyNap 04-18-2008 12:22 PM

'Nuther one: I will not eat ANYTHING that is swimming or has floated in a can of mushroom soup. ACK! What a crummy thing to do to innocent food! http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/wu...smiley-015.gif

OMG - my Mom used to make this. But she sort of crumbled up the leftover meatloaf and made it into a spread with mayo and sweet pickles. Put it on fresh Sunbeam white bread and it was sooooo good.

I have not met anyone who serves meatloaf sandwiches that way - people look at me like I have three heads when I tell them how we fix it.

Most people just slice it, put it between two slices of bread with ketchup on it.

I'm so glad someone else likes this.......:o

I actually grow tomatoes from seed! I just do not eat them. LOL

As a matter of fact, that is what I am doing this weekend - planting the seeds, wrapping them in plastic and up on the refrigerator they go until germination. Then, it is under grow lights for the next 6 weeks! I am told I grow a pretty good tomato. This year, I am growing Early Girl.

I do this with peppers too and I will start the cucumbers in mid-May.

Keep that room ready!!
