LP over - thanks for the thoughts =)
It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Nothing to it really!! Good thing is, I get to lay around all day drinkink my lattes (caffeine). Got my water right here also!
She said if it comes back negative, she is going to wait 3 months follow up with another MRI before starting treatment. That confused me because she pretty much alreay gave me the diagnosis, and I know a lot of LP come back negative, AND that some people don't even get one at all. If we do a follow up MRI, I don't think thre would be lesions because I have only had 4 develop in 8 years, last one being in Jan/Feb time frame. Good thing (in case it is negative) I am following up with a specialist May 13th, so I should get a def diagnosis by then at the very least. Thanks again for all the support, thoughts and kind words!! Connie |
Glad to hear it beautiful.

Glad to hear that you made it through. Just make sure to rest and drink! Don't push yourself.

Hi Connie
Glad the LP is over! Now, why are you on the computer!!! You should be lying flat on your back resting m'dear!!! :D I've had 4 LPs and two of them ended up with the dreaded LP headache...I hope you don't get one...lots of fluids...caffeine...and laying flat! Build that spinal fluid and pressure back up. Take care, and I hope you find out what the heck is wrong with you! The waiting is the toughest part of all this!! |

Ack - I hope that is not what is happening to me. Why did you have to have 4? Were they all related to MS? Just curious :) |

The last two were done while I have been in the clinical trial. |

How long before the first and second. Were you in an active relapse for your second? I am worried what it means if this one is neg, cause then she wants to wait on treatment and do a FU MRI in 3 months... but as I said, I will be seeing a sepcialist, so he may not need the LP. Thanks :D |

Glad your LP is over and it wasn't bad! I hope it helps you get the dx you are looking for. :-)

My first was during my first flare, but no dx then. My second was during another flare and with my new neuro for a second opinion to see if I could get a definite dx, no chance then either. Good luck! |
You don't NEED an LP for dx. The first two were to rule out other things and to confirm some suspicions ... and for MY peace of mind. I've had a rather active course of MS with at least 4 exacerbations a year since my initial dx in 2001. Doc thought maybe something else was going on, that's the reason for the 2nd LP. It's not usual.
If you look at the McDonald Criteria for dx'ing MS...you will see that an LP is not required http://www.nationalmssociety.org/download.aspx?id=214 Then I entered the clinical trial and had to go through the rediagnosis process all over again. So, in order to confirm, the LP was done. Of course, the first one came back negative because I was not having an excerbation. Doc said that when I had one, we were going to do one last LP to confirm so we did. Funny thing about me and LP...no relapse negative LP, no headache. Relapse, positive LP, headache. That should alleviate your fears of having another one! Hope you are feeling better today! |
