Went Camping~ Not!!!!!
OK, would someone please remove the dark cloud that has been hovering over my HAID???? I was so excited yest, as it was our 1st time out camping this season and our friends from WI came down.
DH and I no sooner backed the RV in and it got dark and downpoured. I came home and when I went back after the storm, there on my cement pad was a 3 ft long snake. (water snake of some sort) I freaked!! DH was helping DS at his business, so some poor man came by on a bike and I asked him to "chase" the snake away. He picked it up, it bit him and wouldn't let go. His hand started to bleed like crazy. I about passed out as this poor man was standing there w/what I felt was a python attached to his hand B/C of ME!!!! Finally, he takes the snake to the river. Now, this campground is right on the Mississippi, which has been rising. OK, the sun comes out, we sit down outside, umbrella drinks in hand, chips in the bowl :sunchair: THEN the fire dept comes through w/their sirens telling us to go to the main shelter house, which is brick. Tornado warnings and one was spotted. :rain: Dang! We hang out there a while, just reposition the lil umbrellas' in my watered down toddy and the Park Ranger comes by and says that by noon Sat *today* the park will be closed and flooded. WHAT??? :Sinking: We go out for pizza, as the wind is just wicked, so no grilling out. :pizza: We come back and the river is out of its' banks and literally splashing across the road. Well, the umbrella drink got tossed, the RV hooked up and DM, DH and DS headed for home. So, on my first night of camping, I was in my jammies, in my own bed at home and still thirsty. Darn it, those lil umbrella's were a waste of money!! :sad-dollar: We drove down and checked the park out today and the river is over the road bringing really awful muck w/it, right where we were parked. After the Winter we had, Mother Nature is still messing w/me!!! :hissyfit::Soapbox::Bawling::Wheel::Sinking::Sob: |
I am sorry DM that your camping trip got beat down by Mother Nature.
Soon you will be out there camping your little ol' heart away... :( |
*sitting little dingbat on my knee*
Okay, I know you're disappointed and I understand it. At least you had some umbrellas. *running out of thread (the chick has claws!)* |
:deadhorse::Poke ::Noooo: :mad2: :Bang-Head: :Talkative: :mf_argue: :stirthepot: :ranting: :hissyfit:
ya wanna know whatchu can do w/that umbrella remark???? *nevermind~ Princess's don't talk that way* :picknose: |
I'm so sorry your w/e got ruined DM. That was an awful "un" adventure.
I hope the poor man with the snake bite was OK, but then again I dare say you'd have mentioned it if he wasn't. He was sorta lucky  he wasn't bitten by an Australian water snake. We have some of the most deadly ones in the world. At least you're safe. We'd have missed you if the RV floated off down the Mississippi with DM inside. |
sorry the trip turned sour it wasnt the best of days here in midwest yesterday
bummer no snake smilies  |

Dm? You didn't practice your Junior Ranger First Aid Skills? Or your Junior Ranger Emergency Preparedness Skills? gasps* Or even your Junior Ranger Canoing Skills? Tsk...tsk...tsk...(shaking head) whatever shall I do?
I know...(takes Junior Ranger Skill Card and cuts off three corners.) Lose one more corner DM and you will have to earn your card all over again! (hoping she doesn't as it took forever for DM to earn it the first time.) Don't worry...other camping days will be here soon, but none quite like this! |
You could have earned this badge if you hadn't whined!

I don't know where the guy was from. He was so nice, I was up on the side of my SUV hollering!! :holysheep: Hopefully, we can get back out soon. Maybe the wkend after Mother's Day. Here's a yummy one for ya, Kay! My poor campground. DH went down there tonight and it's under water. :Sob: Guess it IS a good thing we left. I'm not a good rower!! :Sinking: THINK SPRING!! |
Just think DM, it will be frozen by morning. Ugh, dang weather.
|
It's crazy, isn't it Sandy? We have a freeze warning tonight and by Wed/Thurs, it's supposed to be 70's again. No wonder everyone is sick!
Double ARRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!! :Sob: :Bawling: |
Sorry about your RV'ing experience. Were you hooked up? That is not really camping in my book, but I don't do tent camping myself.
We had an RV so we took the best of modern life along with us and still enjoyed the quiet and the views. I even took my computer and my cell phone. We could run the computer using the cell phone. That friendly man who removed the snake was really not clicking on all his pistons unless he knew for sure it was not poisonous. Most snakes bite if cornered, but they are not all poisonous. I just go get hubby when a snake comes by. He had snakes when he was a kid and knows about them and how to handle. In our old florida neighborhood we got a variety of snakes...some poisonous. You can almost always tell by the shape of their head. The neighborhood kids would come running..."MR. D, MR. D...my mom says come quick theres a snake on the patio!". One time I was sitting in my living room reading a book and these three little munchkins came right into the house.... They were so cute. They loved DH as he was their hero. He also taught them about safety around snakes and how to tell which ones were poisonous. He told them never to touch them; just come get him. So we had a busy time of it..... DH would just take the snakes to a safe place (safe for the snakes). If it was poisonous he'd call animal control. I don't study them though:D, I just get DH and he removes them. Too bad about the bad weather; still its early in the year. You'll get better opportunities (i hope). Wonderful that the fire department came through and warned you. They are priceless for all they do for people. Tootsie. |
Maybe just maybe DM..had so many umbrella drinks at home...she thought she was out camping..and dreamed about a snake and a bite, and a river overflowing, and a shelter...hmmmmmmmm
haha Sorry your trip went sour...and that you didnt really enjoy lots of umbrellas used the drinking way.....hugsss glad you didnt get bit....bummer for the man....hugssss,sarah |
Snakes petrify my Diane! But, your'e right, that guy did not know his snakes. UGH!!!!
Uh, I am not what you would call a "roughing it'' camper. We got a new RV last yr that has 3 slide outs, queen pillowtop bed and all the amenities of home. 15 yrs ago, we started out w/a pop up and had that one season. I didn't like it. I remember camping w/my parents in a tent w/5 kids, plus friends. We thought we were the luckiest kids' in the world. If I slept in a tent now, I'd be crippled up forever. No, I'd still be in the tent, floating down river. You said it~~ We are so lucky to have our "volunteer" fire dept. They are a great bunch of people. |
*paddling over to DM's favorite campsite*

Yup~ it's the real pic of my campground. It's a really nice place too!. I shudder to think of the mess the river will leave it in.
Thanks for posting the pic, AMN. She drove on the grass too, but I saved her before the Rangers saw it!! She'd still be in TH jail! http://dl8.glitter-graphics.net/pub/...bm5spkdvf3.gif |
The Mighty Mississippi crested during the night. She is way over flood stage and has poured into many river towns. My campground is completely under water.. They had just cleaned the whole grounds for the season and the river has brought things w/it that make ya sick.
