What Will You Do With Your Stimulus Check?
I saw on the news that the stimulus checks are being mailed out soon.
I should save mine - since I don't know for sure if my LTD will begin on time (first week of June) and I don't have another paycheck coming in. I've been thinking that I might go to Costco and stock up on frozen food and non-perishables. I have an extra refrigerator/freezer in my garage that I could keep a lot of the frozen items in. I've seen frozen chicken breasts and hamburger meat at good prices when you buy in bulk. I haven't decided yet....but at the rate food and gasoline prices keep going up I think it might be a good idea. What will you do with your check? |
Gosh Kell~ Guess I'll believe it when I have it in my hot lil hands!
We haven't even talked about what we would do w/it. hmmmm. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. |
I haven't given too much thought to this either. I don't want to "count my chickens before they hatch."
However, my thinking was similar to yours HK - stock up on items. I did entertain the thought (and it was only a thought) of getting a new TV because of all the digital TV changes coming up. |
I'm going to get a tank of gas! With the change, I'll get a donut.

If I get one, it will go for bills or maybe I'll run up a few more and it will help pay on vac for my kid.
|
It's going in the bank! But then again, we could use some new furniture for the deck... :Scratch-Head:
|
AMN, I thought the donut you were going to buy was the kind you sit on...was going to give you a hug for any problems a donut would ease:p
My DH and I are putting a pond in our yard...this will pay for all the hoses, pumps, plants, etc. Should have hired someone to do it, but my DH likes to do projects...problem is, it takes forever! |
With my half I am going to buy a rocker for the living room. :)
My wonderful DH will probably stick his half in the bank and give me a ration of ...... because I spent my share. |
Most to bills, the rest to a few new cloths...maybe a few hundred of it..
|
until I have it in my hands, not sure what I'm going to do with it. More than likely I'll put it into savings - but never know. We do need a new washing machine and dryer here soon. :D
|
Mine will go where every other dollar goes, to the bank.
|
fill up the freezer and pay some bills, that is if i actually get one
|
I'm not spending it, even mentally, until it's in my hot little hand. We're not even sure how much we're going to get. I am working, we file jointly, but my husband is on Social Security. He says we are "joint filers" so we each get $600. I told him he'd better not count on it.
|
Me too B2Y, we think, according the the IRS site that we get $300 for Jim but since we filed jointly we should get $600. But I don't work so who knows? lol
|
thats why i said if we get it
i dont count on anything before i have it either Sandy and Bless I'll believe it when i see it |

I have a funny feeling that the "Stimilus Check" will be returned by my bank with those wonderful red letters stating: "Insufficient Funds".
If it does get cashed, then do we get paid in Yuans rather than dollars. After all, we now owe them 3 trillion dollars or more... Maybe, just maybe I will go to the China Shop, also known as K-Mart, where almost everything is made in China...and then I can buy some lead-painted toys or some contaminated drugs. How do I reaaaaalllly feel about the "Stimulus Check"????? I am sure that Alexander Hamilton is rolling in his grave over this process... Now, if it was not based on a loan from China, then I would help Cindy pay for that tank of gas, becuase it will take at least two of these checks to fill her tank. As for the donut....we will have to split one donut hole because that will be all that we can afford. How do I reaaaaalllly feel about the "Stimulus Check"????? |
The IRS said all checks for those who filed tax returns on time are scheduled to be deposited or mailed by July 11. The direct deposits and the paper checks are being processed by the last two digits of a taxpayers' Social Security number.
For people receiving direct deposits, those with a Social Security number ending in 00 to 20 will have their economic stimulus payment deposited to their bank account by May 2. Those with Social Security numbers ending in 21 to 75 will get their direct deposits by May 9 and those with Social Security numbers ending in 76 to 99 getting their deposits by May 16. |
It's going in the bank:)

Aww come on, Victor - tell us how you really feel!! :D |
I've been stimulated!
I called my bank's automated line this morning to verify that my weekly pay had been deposited Friday. When it gave me the balance it was more than what was supposed to be there. It's the stimulus check, deposited this morning. So I went to the town office and along with my state and federal refunds, I had just enough to pay my real estate taxes for the year... joyful day:( I really really really enjoyed my stimulus check... can I have another please? ( i wanted enough to at least buy a bag!) |

So....if we had our federal and/or state refund directly deposited into our checking account that's the way we'll get our stimulus check? I hope so - one less trip to the bank for me! I check my account online everyday so maybe it will be there tomorrow! :) |
Kroger is offering an extra 10% on top of the check amount if you spend the money at one of their stores.
Not sure I could spend $600 at Kroger but I guess if I stocked up on high ticket items like coffee and meat I could. Frozen foods can add up quickly, too. That's an extra $60 on top of the $600 so that's a pretty good deal. Other stores like K-Mart and Sears are offering similar incentives to spend the money at their stores. I want new furniture SO bad but I'm just going to have to use what I have - and don't get me wrong...I'm very thankful that I even have furniture so I'm not whining - but when I look at the flyers in the Sunday paper with new furniture I just get the "fever". I've got willpower - I won't cave. I'm so glad RW got her check - just confirms that they really are out there!:p |

My wife and I won't be getting any money, so I guess we'll be doing nothing with it. We will, however, boost our savings to pay additional taxes to cover it. And then beg our employers to let us work 4/10's to eliminate 20% of our gas bills... And 85 degrees really isn't all that bad in the house... Just another pothole in the road of life... Tom |
Who would have thought that we would get screwed in April and then stimulated in May?

LOL!! Seems kinds backwards, huh?:D:o |
Mine's going to the local spa. I plan on getting a massage, use the new hydrotherapy tub, and anything else until the money runs out. Might get a manicure. It's gonna be a fun relaxing time. I love mad money!!
|
Our refund is going to paint the house and DH just bought a new laptop for his computer games
We've got a GPS unit that includes European maps and a new 35 mm digital camera in our future specifically to use for our move overseas. I'm putting in the request for the camera because it's about time I got something fun.:p I imagine that's where our stimulus check will go. Oh yeah and this weekend I bought two chairs from overstock.com and a coatrack that reminds me of an alien spaceship. Don't ask - it made me laugh and they took 10% off!!! |
It was the same amount as we paid in!
Wish we could take the dog off as a dependant. |
Quote:
Doggys should be allowed as dependents. Nowadays you have to send them to school and have day care...etc..:D |
boring...mine's going for bills
|

You might be boring but you're the smart one, Judy. Suze Orman says to pay down credit card debt or other bills but under no circumstances should we fall for the ruse and spend it as though it is "free money". I'll listen to her. She's much smarter than I am. Plus, I have no intentions to make Dubya happy. |
Quote:
Suze is one heck of an advisor.:) She has been very helpful in many ways. Following her advice has been a great thing indeed (although I so have to send some of our check to Cindy so that she can fill up the gas tank and get that donut.:)) -Vic |
Since we had to pay out almost $3,000.00 for basement waterproofing, I guess it will go in the bank. Since we had no choice but to pull up the carpeting and take the dark paneling off the wall, I get my way and get new carpet and will redo the walls. We are in a bi level so I think we will put beadboard on the lower part of the wall and leave the upper part drywalled and paint it two different colors. Then NEW CARPET!!!!! Several years ago I left an iron on the floor. I didn't realize that it was still turned on. So it burned an iron shaped hole in the carpet and padding! And it's in the muiddle and can't be covered up. We have those old fashioned 24 x 24 celing tiles and I've convinced DH to dry wall the ceiling. Then maybe next year we will scrape enough money to get new furniture. But that's what the stimulus check willl help with this year.
|
We were going to get a new car but changed our minds. Now we get to put it in our savings account for the next big bill!
|
We will have to keep it to live off of until my disability goes through, we know we will have at least one month without my pay anyways. Thank goodness it's coming now when we need it.
|
Me, too. I'm also waiting on LTD to kick in and think it will be at least June at the earliest.
|
I don't know when I am getting mine, but I already spent it....
I bought a new laptop! AMN made me do it! |
