East coast members please check in from the storms

I just talked with Renee (afwifeRM) and she told me several tornados have gone through their area. Her family is OK but they had to take cover under the stairs twice.

If you are in or around this weather system, please check in and let us know your OK. I believe Greta and Mike are close to the area and hopefully they will check in.

NaeNae 04-28-2008 06:50 PM

I searched and searched for Greta's telephone number that she gave me while hubby was in hospital to no avail, I think my mom threw it out! I do know that Greta's town did sustain some damage, however have no idea what area she is in. The people in suffolk, Virginia seemed to have taken the hardest hit, with over 200 injured so far and many homes leveled.

As Sandy stated we were under the stairs twice but thankfully came thru without problems a few broken branches but nothing compared to the devastation 20 miles down the road.

My Prayers are with everyone!

SandyC 04-28-2008 06:54 PM

Oh darnit, I don't have the PM anymore Renee. I am sorry. Hopefully someone will come on that knows and will call her. I am watching the video of the damage now.

Tootsie 04-28-2008 07:23 PM

I asked Putterfit to contact you if he is able to. He may have the number you are looking for.

I too hope everyone in Virginia that visits here on Neurotalk is okay.

Mike R. (Putterfit) said he just spoke to Greta and she was away; just returned. She is fine.

SandyC 04-28-2008 09:10 PM

Thanks Diane and tell Mike thanks and we are glad he's safe too.

greta 04-28-2008 09:12 PM

Just fine and dandy :) Bumpy ride in on the descent though! Had no idea there was any bad weather till I turned on the radio.

Was in ATL since last week - had a great time but it's nice to be home!

Thanks for checking on all of us!

SandyC 04-28-2008 09:14 PM

Thanks Greta! Renee and I were gabbing away on the phone and when she hung up she was surrounded by tornados! Scary!

greta 04-28-2008 09:46 PM

Wow. I had no idea it was so bad. We usually avoid them around here. Scary stuff. Glad to hear she's ok and back out from underneath the stairs now!

SandyC 04-29-2008 12:04 AM

Well I for one am glad you are all OK. I couldn't believe it when renee called me. I immediately put the weather channel on and kept it there until 9pm my time.

PolarExpress 04-29-2008 04:34 AM

When did Tornado Alley move to Virginia?
I'm so glad you're all OK (Greta, Renee,Mike..EVERYONE).

NaeNae 04-29-2008 07:43 AM

Glad you checked in Greta! I was throwing things around the kitchen looking for your number! My girlfriend drove straight into the one south of Richmond on her way back from PA, I called her and said "where are you!" Sitting on 64 in a tornado with four screaming kids, was her reply! So rare for this area but I am glad everyone is ok!

SandyC 04-29-2008 09:50 AM

Can you believe I had just finished "Storm cell" the movie when Renee called me? Freaky.

MelodyL 04-29-2008 10:04 AM

Hi All.

I live on the East Coast. We have had nutty weather once again. Rain, wind, Winter's back. Yesterday and this morning, people had their winter coats on, (with hoods), and mittens. And it's April 29th.

Hopefully, summer is right around the corner. I can't believe that less than 5 days ago, my landlord's daughter was in the backyard in her bathing suit, and this morning everybody is wearing winter apparel again.

oh boy!!!

NaeNae 04-29-2008 12:46 PM

Well glad we didn't get THAT east coast weather its 65 here today!

PolarExpress 04-29-2008 09:47 PM

I feel your pain, Melody..A few days ago, the Weather Channel said the Upper Midwest was on suicide watch because of the latest snow storm coming thru..Weather's getting better, but now they think the most severe weather will hit late Spring/Early Summer this year rather than Fall..I'm still looking for that perfect place..No snow, no tornadoes, no earthquakes or hurricanes..Not too hot, not too cold. Just call me Goldilocks..

greta 04-30-2008 08:06 AM

DH came home last night and said that one of the guys who works for him has some pretty severe damage. Both houses across the street are gone. Only reason his is standing is because the guys building his addition actually saw the tornado coming and ran in and opened all the windows before they hunkered down. Even still, every window is cracked, 5 holes in the roof, all the siding needs to be replaced, etc. Wow.

NaeNae 04-30-2008 08:14 AM

It is wow the pictures amaze me everyday! Have you called the volunteer line? They said last night they still needed people to help cook, help with deliveries, that type of thing. How is the selling of your house going?

Didn't even realize they had a volunteer line. Brought a cold home with me from ATL and I'm not much good for anything this week.

House selling is moving along slowly. Trying to light a fire under the painter because we can't show until the interior paint is done. At least the pressure washing of the exterior is now in progress. I'm guessing that week after next it will go on. 2 weeks off schedule. Argh.

Just saw Maine on the news. Mother Nature is sure showing us her power lately.

The Mississippi crested Tues night, but we are expecting more rain tomorrow.

Take care everyone.

woodhaven 05-04-2008 02:46 PM

tornados

Thanks, Sandy and everyone for checking on the East Coast folks. The one that hit Carrsville jumped right over us, Thank the Good Lord!! We did not know that one had come down here and in Suffolk until my sister called to see if we were okay. It is really a miracle that no one was seriously hurt.

Renee, glad that you guys are okay. I saw where one had lit in your area.
