depression?/fatigue?.. what is my problem?
for the last month i have felt so drained.. all i want to do i lay down and recharge but i can never seem to get enough rest to keep me going all day...
ill go to sleep at night get about 7hrs or so (pretty normal for me) wake up feel ok and then about 2hrs later i am ready to crash out again.. i then have to take a nap for another 2-3 hrs to get some more energy back.. then ill get up and moving, do what i need to do ..and then need to nap again for a few hours.. by that time is bed time... ugh.. i kind of don't think this is depression because there is so much that i need/want to do my body just refuses to let me unless i follow it's rules of napping.. mentally i feel fine though.. maybe a little annoyed that i have to keep resting but thats about it.. what to you all think? and is there anything i can take/do to help with the fatigue.. i finally called my neuro about this but she hasn't got back to me yet.. at the moment i am thinking maybe just a truck load of coffee.. because provigil (sp?) is not an option for me.. |

Hi Punk! I've missed seeing you here! I'm sorry you're having such a time with the fatigue. I take Provigil and it's a wonder drug for me. Too bad you can't tolerate it. Does it give you headaches? It gave them to me but I kept taking it and now I don't get them but every so often. There's got to be something else to take besides that, though. I think my neoro mentioned Amantadine as a possible substitution. Good luck! I hope she can prescribe something that will get you moving again! :) |
Hi Punk. Sorry you are feeling so punky:eek:
Have you had your thyroid checked lately. Sometimes if it is out of wack you can feel drained or tired. Hope your a feeling better soon |
Hey Punk! I get that way too but usually it is during a flare. It is an awful feeling and that in itself can be depressing. It is kind of like a catch-22 situation.
I don't have any suggestions for you as I am not on anything for the fatigue. I do try to stick with a routine though and that seems to help. Are you having any new symptoms or worsening of old? Is it possibly a flare? Let us know how you are doing. |
howdy punk sorry your feeling down, I get the same thing from time to time but usually it happens when i am having a relapse or flare, it stinks, just dont add to it by trying to force more into your day then you can handle. it will come back and bite you in the u know where:eek: there are other stimulants that you might be able to use I know when i am having a flare and even on provogil i sleep like you described, pretty sure that wasnt what u wanted to hear, sorry, its not you, your not going crazy, its the MS, its a pain

I just learned today, which I didn't know, sleep apnea is higher in people with MS and so my Dr is sending me for a sleep study to see if I have it. Do you think you could have this?
|
Hi Punkie,
I have a friend by this nickname! So sorry you are going through this. I agree with what these smart folks :Clever: have said... could be a flare. I hope you take care and don't be to hard on yourself, and as was advised to me, don't try to power through it. Getting lots of :Zzzz: is probably the best thing for you right now. Just take care of YOU for a while!
Sorry I don't have the answers, but I do care. You are in my prayers!:smileypray:  I hope you find your answers! |
Hi Punk!!
Good to hear from you. Sorry you are so fatigued. I get exactly like you described. I don't know if it's exactly an attack but it's definitely an increase in the fatigue. I just let my body do what it will. I would wake up at 8am and then by 10am I'm back in bed for several hours. It does go away after a while for me. It's just something the MS does. |
You know, I recently went on an anti-depressant because I was so angry and short with everyone.
Neither my husband, nor I have noticed any improvement. The only thing that seems to make me feel better is the extra sleep I'm able to get on the weekend. By Monday, I'm ready to go! By Tuesday I feel like carp again! I'm taking 200mg of Provigil daily, but think it may be time to go up higher. If you can't take Provigil, have you tried anything else? Amantadine? Ritalin? Concerta? |
Hey, Punk! :Wave-Hello: I've been wondering where you were.
Sorry to hear you're so nappy. Hope it doesn't last. Might be time to turn down that amp at 3 a.m... ;) |
thanks everyone!
no new Sx or worse old ones..( that i know of ) just way worse fatigue then usual.. could a flare cause that Sx? hmmm no i don't believe i have had my thyroid checked for a while.. probably a good idea.. i'll ask for that blood test also when my neuro calls me back. not sure about sleep apnea.. maybe.. but after reading the Sx list for it i have none of main ones. still its worth mentioning to my neuro. i never knew fatigue could be so bad.. usually its hard to get me to sit still..:D but it is good to know its not just me that feels like this.. |

A simple sleep study is all that is needed. I have since learned people with MS do have a higher incident of sleep disorders. If your not using any meds for fatigue then talk to your neuro about trying one of them out. |
I'm on an AD for the mild depression I had. So the "I don't feel like doing anything" fatigue is gone. Of course now I'm a little frustrated that the body can't keep up with what I want to do. Can't take any of the meds, so learning how to rearrange things in my life to handle this.
Because my fatigue was so bad, they have tested almost everything under the sun. Thyroid, B12, D, etc. etc. Everything has come back at normal levels. Think I might request a sleep study since my dad has sleep apnea. Couldn't hurt. Hope you feel better soon. |
So sorry about you fatigue, Punk..:( I don't have problems with MS Fatigue now, since being on LDN and Prozac, but when I'm sick, or feverish, I deffinately do.
The others are right...It seems that you may have something else going on. I hope you find out what it is and feel better soon. |
well neuro is gonna check thyroid.. (probably lots of other stuff in the blood test) and gave me the name of a supplement to try.. (Acetyl-L-Carnitine) because if i can get by without a RX med all the better, if not ill just have to take one....
i forgot to ask about a sleep study. but i can call again.. i do have a little bit of a temp.. nothing major but its higher then normal for me.. maybe i caught that bug thats been going around and its just taking longer for me to get rid of it then most ppl.. i don't feel sick as such though..:Sigh: oh well we'll get this figured out sooner or later i am sure.. |
Hi PD
Glad you called the doc. Bummer you're still feeling crummy. If you're running a little temperature it may be enough to throw the body out of whack. Rest and fluids. You'll have to let us know if the non Rx helps the fatigue. I'm taking Amantadine and it is a lifesaver. Except when I overdo. Then sleep, sleep and more sleep. Keep us posted on the test results too. |
