buying food from Amazon.com - AMN / MomXseven
Hi - I didn't want to hijack Chris's post but I was reading about money and AMN and momXseven and others who order food/home goods from Amazon.
I checked out Amazon and the free shipping program - can you all tell me a little more - what kinds of things do you order - are you on the program so they automatically send goods periodically. Most of all - do you find this to be a good way to save money ???? I have also checked out the Agelfood ministries and will be telling my daughter about that. I help her and her family out financially as I am still working - still clinging to my job with all that is in me. But - that looks like such a good alternative for her and her family. I followed the link and there were some churches near our area that are set up and doing that. I checked Local Harvest but the closest one to me is still a drive across town through traffic and I just know that I am not willing to do that right now - I don't feel well enough to fight the traffic and risk a car wreck. It sounds like a wonderful idea though and hopefully that will catch on in a big way in the futer ! Sounds much like a local farmers market. I am wondering about buying the baby supplies from Amazon and what other supplies that you buy and find as good deals there ???? Home delivery would be so nice. I find that when I go to the store - I will, without doubt, come home with stuff that I do not need !!!! I MUST start watching every penny now that I am noticing that I am spending half again as much on food and supplies - it is awful !!! I am going on a cruise this fall - it may be the one and only one that I ever go on for all I know so I am going to do it before it is too late. By too late, I am talking financially and physically. I have been frugal all my life and never had anything to speak of - but - I am going to do the cruise !!! But, in the mean time - I must watch every penny that I spend due to the increase cost of absolutely everything - it is shocking !!! And I will continue to help my daugher and family until they can truly get on their feet so that is taking a good percentage of my earnings as well. As a side Note - my daughter and her family are also very frugal and never take advantage of me. She is a good daughter married to a wonderful young man and they have a beautiful baby. :D |
Well I'm a "prime member", that's how you get the free 2 day shipping, I moslty buy cleaners, laundry soap and bath iteams (only if its cheaper than the stores). I don't buy much food from them but I do if I see a good deal.

You don't have to be a Prime member, just Subscribe & Save and all grocery orders ship free.
http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=amb_link...rd_i=cereal%20 Some stuff is no better than sale prices at my local store, but when I know I'm going to need it, it's easier for me to have it brought to my door. Toilet paper, seasonings, cold cereal, laundry soap, etc. that's bulky and hard for me to handle/carry. Sometimes they have good coffee deals and that's a time to let them carry a case of it to the door for me. I'm pretty gimped up and winter in MI is extremely difficult for me with the scooter, parking lots, etc. so that's how I got involved in it. If you know your prices at home, you might want to run your shopping list through an online store and compare cost per item to your latest bill. You'll know.:) |

O.K., I have to say, I find this....AMAZING!!!
Who knew you could buy grocery store/drug store stuff online??? Well, apparently a LOT of people knew...except me. I obviously didn't know :-) On the down side, they don't stock my deodorant or toothpaste... But on the up side...they stock just about everything else I use! I think I'm in love!!! |

Wow! I'm going to have to start ordering from this website. Every time I go into Walgreen's for "just toothpaste" I come out with $40 worth of things I never realized I needed until I started looking around! Thanks for the info!! :) |
Thanks so much for the information.
I will have to check this out and begin doing some of my buying through these sites. This is great !!! Snoods |
Plus you earn "drugstore dollars" or whatever they call them.
Amazon and I are definitely on a first name basis. We bought our vaccuum cleaner from them. Clothes, food, you name it. I always check there first. Plus I got an Amazon visa card which I use as my primary card, because every now and then they send me a $25 gift certificate. :D We don't get to "town" very often in the winter, and I can order something from either of these places and have it in hand before our next trip to the big city. We just ordered a big spool of replacement string for the trimmer. |
Do drugstore.com through ebates!!
Guys, I don't want to hijack either but I want to remind you about ebates -- you can save even more by signing up and then accessing things like drugstore.com THROUGH their site -- and it's real cash that comes in the form of a check I think this link might take you directly to the list of stores -- if it works, it's on the right -- scroll to see what stores they have and what you can save. For example, Amazon only takes coupons but drugstore.com is 6% cashback (and you can still use your "drugstore dollars" on top of this)! And, if you sign up through a referral, you get cash in your account immediately and so does the person who referred you. I had put my ebates link in my profile in an attempt to start a kind of ebates "train" so that someone could sign up through me and get the cash and then they could be the one to tag someone else, etc. so everyone can benefit (you only get cash right away if you join through a referral -- it gets credited when a first purchase is made). For example, I would then remove my link from my profile and the next person would put their link in their profile and so on. If anyone is interested, we should revive that thread. By the second month I had joined, I got a check in the mail for $25.00.
I'll duck out now -- back to your Amazon talk but I just had to post since I saw drugstore.com mentioned. Ebates is seriously great -- no catch. Here's the link where you can see what they have -- to the right it says "select a store": http://www.ebates.com/shopping/guide...ation_id=18452 |

I can't believe I'm 47 years old, spend most of my free time on the computer...and I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THESE WONDERFUL WEBSITES! I'm not sure I'm ever going to leave my house again!! Oh, I have to go to work everyday...and pick my daughter up from school...attend school functions... O.k., I'll leave my house...but not to go shopping :D |
Here's another way to knock a few bucks off the monthly tab. I was reluctant at first to do it, but I quit the newspaper subscriptions completely. I can read the papers I care about online with free subscriptions anyway. My biggest issue with them was hauling all of it out to the curb every week.
If you're worried about missing the Sunday inserts, check this out: http://www.sundaysaver.com/ Sometimes there are online-only deals that are really very good. Many stores offer free shipping to the store of your choice and accept any returns right in the store (no return shipping hassle/cost). This is fiscally, physically, and environmentally responsible to boot! |

It is so dry here that sometimes you can actually feel the moisture being sucked from your skin. No joke. 8% humidity will do that to you. Nivea Nighttime Renewal is the best lotion I have found for extremely dry skin. So, I order it from drugstore.com. I have not ordered anything from Amazon yet. A while ago a friend of mine with MS told me about how some of our local grocery stores deliver. She does this all the time as she lives on the far outskirts of town. There is a delivery charge which I am sure has gone up since the gas prices have gone up. So I did some checking in to other options - Amazon. Their prices were comparable if not cheaper than the stores. |
I recently canceled my weekend paper so this is a good one, thanks! My market isn't there but I do check their circular online every week. I also check out www.smartsource.com for regular coupons. They don't have everything my weekend paper used to have but at least some of them are there.

Here are a few sites that have codes and/or coupons to use for various savings:
http://www.digitaleditor.com/allmerchants http://www.couponcreep.com/ http://www.couponcabin.com/printable-coupons/index.htm This thread is great because everyone has supplied useful websites!:D |
And here's one more I use on a regular basis:
www.retailmenot.com OT: They have a sister site, www.bugmenot.com that you can often find passwords on for sites you have to register for AND there's a temporary (it expires quickly) free email address you can set up if you need to register for something and don't want to get spammed. |

A few more good sites: www.slickdeals.net and www.dealtaker.com
I use them for freebies but they have a lot of coupon codes and deals. |
Wow - this is such good information on all these sites - I wish we could get a sticky posted for "money saving tips".
I for one and going to go through all these sites and take a look when I have more time. I am staying home more and more to save money and as I mentioned somewhere - everytime I go out - I end up getting more than intended and I used to get away with that without too much $$$$$$ - not anymore. I am going to use more online services and save gas, save spending $$$ don't need to spend and just enjoy my home more. I do love where I live so much - small condo that it is. :) Is a sticky possible ???? |
