Results- I have to crow!

I had my one year neuro appt. since going on Tysabri.
The doc did a full exam, listened to my chief complaint (still spasticity) and prescribed an increase in Baclofen ( 20 mg TID from 10 mg TID)

He is pleased with my progress and so am I! Everything appears normal! Who knew that a real doctor would EVER say I was normal! :yahoo:

All tests from my last appt came back normal, LFT normal, everything right in the correct ranges! I have been taking 2000 mg of Vit D all winter and he was semi concerned about that, but I reminded him that I work a long night shift and don't SEE the sun for months, and since the levels were within normal range He said keep it up and we will check again in 3 months.

I started the Baclofen yesterday and as I posted on another thread, I was able to put my socks on without a struggle!

I went to work last night and I made it ALL night without having to HOIST myself out of the chair and wait before I walked! I just got up and walked when I wanted to. I got stiffer as the night ended and when I came home this morning I was ready for more, so I took the last dose with my tizanidine and went to bed.

This afternoon I got right out of bed without stretching!!! ( I had to go reaaally bad!) I went back to bed just to do the stretches because it's routine now, but I FELT like I could have skipped them.

One thing we noted is that I haven't been SICK even once during this whole year! No colds, no infections, no blurting, no rashes, no NOTHING! I don't get sick much anyway but it's strange not to have even had a cold, especially with the population I work with coming down with everything under the sun in the past few months! Just this last month it's been diarrhea and vomiting non stop at work!!

I am glad that we have drugs. I was NEVER a pill popper, always worked through illness, hardly even took aspirin except for menses pain. I've even gone off the Tylenol 3 I took for that! (Could Baclofen work on mens. cramps??)

Now I am willing to try what my doc suggests when I DO have problems. If it doesn't work I can always quit, but things are better with drugs! I guess ya live and learn, huh?:D

I feel like I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop for the past year and something bad to happen. Now if it does, I can bend down and pick it up!!

Infusion # 14 on May 22!

Onwards and upwards! :mf_swordfight:

Oh my friend I am sooooo very happy for you! As you know I take Baclofen and wouldn't go without it! Did that once and won't ever do it again. I am now taking the 20mg 4x a day. There are some days I only take it 3 times but I won't go without....

Congratulations now I want his number so I can get into him! ;)

River! That is such great news! Isn't it nice when we finally get some good news from the docs. I am glad that you are able to move with less stiffness. That is just wonderful! I am so happy for you!

Now in regards to the doc saying you were normal?!?!? :yahoo:

Riverwild 05-13-2008 02:16 PM

Thanks everyone! :)

About that normal part?...I disabused him of that notion a few minutes later when I leaped out of the chair and started dancing while humming the "Talking Heads"...he laughed and asked if I hear music no one else hears...:p

I forgot the MOST important part!!

It has been ONE YEAR since my last relapse!!!!

I took a course of steroids while on vacation last year in SC for my godson's graduation, just before starting Tysabri. It was May 1st when I got there, and I waited until after the graduation to start them ( oral pred ) I just remember sitting at the breakfast table and looking at my THIRTY pills in the pretty little Japanese bowl...sucking them down with a chocolate shake while everyone else was eating french toast and cheering me on. I had them for breakfast and supper for three days- 180 pills total.

I remember sitting there and thinking...if this works I may never have to do this again...as I choked them down.

( take THAT Doug Franklin!!!)

RW....wonderful news for You!
I am hoping for something simular!
My first infusion of Tysabri will be April 22nd.
I just wanted you to know that although we do not know each other, I have kept track of your postings. With my own research and your experience and positive attitude it really helped me make my decision.
Thank You from the bottom of my heart, for sharing all that you have. I am not much of a poster however, I have kept track!
I just talked to Biogen yesterday..newest stats as of the end of March 2008....there are over 26,000 patients on Tysabri and there have been no cases of PML! Onward and Upward.........Many thanks, Barb

beautytransforming 05-14-2008 02:25 PM

Great news!!

As for Vitamin D, it is a GREAT vitamin to supplement, especially for MSers. Here is a WONDERFUL article about the benifits of vit D, and even how it coorelates with MS. D3 is the best type of Vit D supplement to take. You CAN take up to 10,000 IU a day without adverse effects. Most recommend 2000-5000 iu daily though.

Thanks! I used that and other studies to back up my use of D3.

Working nights doesn't help me make it, and even if I get out in the sun one day a week, I still don't think I am getting enough steady state, so I am sticking with the D3 and doing the 2000 units, along with whatever I get in diet and with my Calcium w/D.

I'm not a big supplementer, but I do the D3, full spectrum fish oil, calc w/ D, a multivitamin and a baby aspirin daily. Each has their reason and place in my day and I am happy with it.:)

Judy2 05-14-2008 05:44 PM
