Why didn't anybody tell me y'all were hiding over here?

When the Cafe closed down I just thought everybody had disappeared! Or was I the one y'all were hiding from?

So what did I miss?

Tom, sorry I didn't hear about the MS150 bandana signing party until it was too late. I did drive a gear truck for a team though and it was a blast (lot of hard work though). That was my first time working the Houston to Austin Ride and I was amazed at the finish line scene in Austin! Good Lord willing I will be riding in it next year since they are changing the Bike to the Beach route after this year.

Well, there goes the neighborhood.

How goes it Batman? Is that you riding in your avatar? Glad you made it over here. There was no formal announcement, some of us have been here awhile. :)

JessieSue 05-12-2008 07:14 PM

Pull up a chair Batman!! But fair warning.....The Stumble Inn can get a little nutty.....makes the Cafe look pretty tame!! LOL

DM 05-12-2008 07:35 PM

What??? You mean you didn't recognize me???? :paperbag:

(AMN wouldn't let me take my bag off)

Welcome To NeuroTalk. :welcome_sign:

AMN, you are too funny!

You can ride in an avatar? I didn't know that... can you get one in pink, with four-wheel drive? :D

Oh, I'm just joshing, of course. Welcome, Bill! (This is the first time I've looked into the Stumble Inn in many weeks... but I'm sure it's been very lively.)

Hey, guess what--I'm getting a BAHA, bone-anchored hearing aid--make that osseointegrated auditory implant, the insurance companies don't wanna hear the words "hearing aid"! Finally found an insurance company that pays for it!! Yay, I'm going to be able to hear sound coming from my deaf side at last!!

Shhhhhhh!!!! It's a secret, so please don't let it get out! We've all been hunkered down here for the longest time!

Twinkletoes 05-13-2008 12:00 AM

What??? You didn't get the memo???

Glad you finally pedaled on over here to NT!!! :D

Ummmm, what did you miss? Lemmesee...

the Gone with the Wind remake tryouts.

and Tamiloo's Olhipie rode his wheelchair down into a gulch.

And the folks who used to be crazy on MSW are still crazy, only now they have more people to be crazy with. NeuroTalk even provided them with their very own forum, prolly cuz they were driving all the "normal" people nuts!

Riverwild 05-13-2008 01:12 AM

Hiya Batman! :Wave-Hello:

Wow...what a welcome! I just hope they don't shut this place down now that I am here the way they did the Cafe and the Current Events forums. I am just glad to find that we still have a place we can talk socially about things besides MS without having our posts deleted and moved all over the place.

For whoever asked, yes, that is me riding in my avatar. That is the Day 1 finish line of the San Antonio to Corpus Christi MS 150 "Bike to the Beach". That picture was taken in 2006 and the photographer thoughtfully cropped my wife out of the picture :( despite my reaching over and patting her on the back right before the picture was taken. She was right beside me and thankfully you can't see the tears of pride welling up in my eyes thinking of her riding with me all the way to the end.

On the other hand, she bought me that jersey I am wearing in the picture...on the back it has a big yellow triangle warning sign that says "Caution Hill Slug!"...an eloquent comment on my hill-climbing ability. For anybody who is interested, this year the NMSS is providing space for personal webpages for those riding. My webpage (http://www.nationalmssociety.org/goto/txags92) is still kind of a work in progress, but I am planning to keep up with my training rides for the ride in October using blog entries at the bottom of the page.

tkrik 05-13-2008 05:17 PM

Oh man, who told Batman where we were? Huh? Fess up. LOL

Glad you joined us Batman and hope to see you post more often.

Awesome job on your ride!! That is amazing and you WILL do it again next year and you WILL have all your NT buddies cheering for you and encouraging you.

Bill,

It is OK to be a "Hill Slug"!

A steady pace onward and before you know it...you have reached the finish line!

I read your blog, and agree completely that wind is the enemy of cyclist. My wife rides five times per week, and regardless of the distance, she always talks about the wind conditions FIRST, and then she may mention her riding distance. Wind is a real pain in the butt, even if you have Chammy Butt'r!:D

LOL

Bill, I've done the 50 mile Challenge walk twice with no problems but no way I could do 150 miles on a bike. (I about cried after a 16 mile test ride...) I give a ton of credit to anyone who can sit in the saddle for 2 days. Way harder than it seems! You are an inspiration.

MooseasaurusRex 05-13-2008 08:10 PM

TXBatman!!!

Good grief, man! Sidekick Boy and I have been waiting. (Someone as big as me and you couldn't find me??!! I just have to try harder...)

So glad you are here partner. And very happy and proud of your work on wheels with the MS.

Ride on (and keep posting), big guy!

TXBatman 05-14-2008 04:31 PM

You aren't kidding about the wind Vic! This year, for the first time in several years, the Houston to Austin ride had to face a headwind. The folks that ride Hou to Aus always talk down about those of us that prefer the SA to Corpus ride because ours drops about 600 feet in elevation over the ride while theirs gains about 800 feet. So they like to talk about how tough the hills are even though they usually have a nice tailwind, while they belittle our "downhill ride" and ignore the coastal headwind we usually face approaching Corpus. Well this year, it was enjoyable to hear them all whine about how tough the wind was and how they never imagined it could make such a big difference! Now if we can just swing a tailwind for our ride, life will be good!

BTW, I just got off the phone with the team captain for the team I was driving the gear truck for and that I am riding with in October. So far this year, between the Houston to Austin and the Frisco to Ft Worth rides, they have turned in over $87,000 and expect their final total to be well over $100,000!!! Way to go Mustang/Wood Group!!!

TXBatman 05-14-2008 05:24 PM

I did see it, but I got kind of overwhelmed with the welcome responses! I posted and went home for the day, and by the time I checked back the next afternoon, we were well into page 2! I felt kind of like Norm walking into Cheers for a moment...
