OT Good vacuum??
We have lots of levels and stairs in our place. Have a good vacuum for the flat areas but anyone have any suggestions for those stairs...using an upright is a pain.
THanks! |
i am a dyson freak. the attachment on mine is long and makes cleaning the stairs a breeze. dyson also has a hand held.
btw...i vacuum daily. :o |
LOL I know you told me you vacuum daily.
I was taking bets on who would reply first to this you or melody :D Ok will check out the dysons! |
i had better get a cut of the pot missy.

Just went to the site. Holy carp! the handhelds look like futuristic weapon.

Wait  ...back on topic right now!
I just looked at the Dysan vacuums this week. They have two new ones with a swivel ball that helps you turn corners on a dime. But it's not as powerful as the original ones. Then they have the really powerful "suck the shoes off your feet" ones, that don't have the swivel, but seem to turn much better than my old vacuum. Which one do you have???? Do you like it??? Why do you like it??? Did yours come with the attachments, or did you have to buy them??? Thanks! |
i got mine when they first came out. i'll have to go to the dyson site and see is the model is there. it's purple and teal.
it came with all the attachments. the one for stairs and small places has the beater bar like the big vacuum. that is what i love about it so much. most are just flat suction and just get the stuff on top. it's wonderful for flat surfaces too. easy to adjust. no more sweeping floors. lol..i could go on and on. it is so easy to clean. just a button and it dumps in the garbage. all the parts are safe to wash with soap and water. the hepa filters ( which you get 2) clean up in a snap. when the commercial says..never lose suction...it's true. it does take about 2 -3 seconds when you turn it on to get full suction. after that i'ts good to go and go and go... |
this is the one i got. bought it at sam's. well hubby did..it was a gift.
http://www.dyson.com/store/product.a...DC14-ANIMAL_US the pinkish color is teal on mine. |

Oh I am going to pay for that one!!! PS Shelley, I don't do buffets...:p Nice vacuum Yappy. I've seen them demonstrated and would buy one when I need one. :D |
thanks cheryl. i've had it for over 4 yrs. never had a problem with it.
and shelley is going to get you big time. :p |
Well from someone that vacuums EVERYDAY and has for almost 10 years I love the Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum with Inteli-Clean System and I have owned all kinds of vacuums, even a Dysan.
http://s7.sears.com/is/image/Sears/0...sm=0.9,0.5,0,0 Oh gosh I even forgot to answer the real question, the stairs. This has a long hose and a GREAT attachment with a small brush just like the vacuum and it does a great job on my stairs and fast too. |

You wanna come vacuum my house? Dog hair and all? Oh wait, Holly doesn't shed! ;) |
That's a cool vac, Yappy. But 18 lbs? Yow... The specs on my current vac were around 12 lbs and that's heavy enough. I'd have to take one for a test drive to see if I could handle it or not. I haven't been able to push mine for almost a year now. And I had to have one for upstairs and another for dowstairs since I couldn't lug it around safely.
|
it is heavier than the hoover i had, but it glides very easy. with my bad back, i don't have any problems with just vacuuming. it's easier than the lighter wieght hoover was.
it is heavy to take up and down the stairs. that is one thing i am thankful for. i do have stairs to vacuum..but my front door is down stairs and living area up, so not up and down like i had before. i have heard pro's an cons about the light weight orecks. i used one at a relatives and didn't think it cleaned very well. |
We have an upright Panasonic which we must have bought 25 years ago. It has been wonderful and has beaters and great suction. It really works great. It also works on bare floors by moving the brushes up and out of the way. We just now, after all these years, had to replace a belt. No big deal. I used it for years but now my husband does the vacuuming as it's too hard on my back anymore.
I do have a really lightweight Dirt Devil upright that I can use to just get the stuff up on the top. But, I only use that in an emergency. Otherwise, the Panasonic is wonderful. I have heard that that one with the ball is really great and I don't doubt it. If I ever have to get another one, that might be the one to get. But for now my husband solves the problem:D |

lol lol lol lol lol lol I'm big on Sharks, as you can see!!! Also, Dustbuster, by Black and Decker, are pretty good for stairs. They are continually re-charging and you can just snap it out, use it and snap it back into it's holder. Pretty neat. |
We have a dirt devil hand vacuum and I dislike it very much:(
|
Thanks for all the advice everyone.
I have decided that since Curious likes to vacuum everyday I will just have her do mine too. :p Leaning towards the dyson. |
Monkey vacuums everyday? Yikes!
I look at my vacuum everyday...:D Yeah...FG decided you be buying lunch when she found out that I was treating you all to Costco Dogs!:D Do you have a problem with hot dogs Shel? I don't.:( |
I love Hot Dogs Taf...and whats her problem with eating at gas stations anyway. She sure has a sensitive tummy. :p

Yep, will agree with Kitt that the hand vac named Dirt Devil is INDEED a devil of an object when it comes to trying to pick up anything other than a speck of lint!!!! GRRRRRRR

This one also has a little brush thing/row on there and that doesn't do a thing. Awful. Dislike it immensely:( And the opening is small:icon_mad:The one I had before, can't remember the name, was great but it wore out. I will be looking for another like that one:) |
I have an Oreck and love it! It's very light (only 8 pounds) and came with all sorts of attachments and even a small hand held vacuum for the car and small jobs.

I agree with you Kitty. I just got an Oreck 2 months ago. I love it. I had one that was heavy and could not use it anymore. Always saw the add for the Oreck decided to take a chance. Have to vaccum everyday because of the dog. There are days that I can't vaccum because of the ms. Ooooooo what a mess of hair. Also came with it, a small one that you can strap on your shoulder. Loved this when I was cleaning the blinds. Jappy :) |
I have hard wood floors, but on the basement stairs, I use my lil hand held Shark.. It's light and manuevers around the steps really well.
|
Vacuums UGH!
:rolleyes:I must have the light weights so I have been using an Oreck up-right for the past 15 years. For my tile floors and carpeted stairs (all 13 of them) I use a Hoover commercial port-a-vac.:p
|
Well, I was out sweeper shopping today. I looked at a couple of Bissel models, which seemed pretty good for the bucks. But glad I checked the online reviews before buying. Almost all said they either clogged too much or plain died in 2-3 years.
And they were heavy too - 22 and 25 lbs! Sheesh.... The only other one I even like is the Dyson DC18 Slim. 16 lbs and almost all 5 star reviews. But $500? I had cars I paid less for. |
