Having an UPPER ENDOSCOPY

Tomorrow morning going for the great upper GI

For years I have been having so much trouble with my stomach.
DX with Gerd, Hernia, had Gall Bladder taken out.

I am just getting sick of being sick. The Heartburn seems to feel
like it is burning through my insides and pain and a bunch of other things.

Each time different meds. given and treatment. Ok for awhile and then
it starts all over again.

Does anyone else have stomach problems that they can't get seem to
get rid of.

Wish me luck this time. I can't take it anymore. I am tired of having
these procedures done. It is scary because anything can happen when
they are looking around in those delicate places.

Jappy :(

tkrik 05-20-2008 06:52 PM

I don't have those issues. I did have an upper GI done once. It really was bad and the meds were pretty good. LOL.

I wish you the best tomorrow and will pray that they find out what is bothering you. Please keep us posted.

AfterMyNap 05-20-2008 07:01 PM

Yikes, Jappy, that kind of sounds not very fun.

The only stomach problem I have is its increasing size. :o

barb02 05-20-2008 07:23 PM

Had one several years ago; discovered 3 ulcers. Used to take prilosec; have "graduated" to nexium.

Curious 05-20-2008 07:26 PM

((((jappy))))) hugs and prayers sweety.

praying that the dr's will find the answer.

SallyC 05-20-2008 07:27 PM

I answered you in an e-mail, Jappy, but again good luck with the procedure...ugh...and let us know how it goes.

:hug::hug:

tovaxin_lab_rat 05-20-2008 07:51 PM

((((jappy))))

I have stomach problems too but they are mostly due to all the meds I am on...it comes and goes. When I had the acute anaphylatic reaction to Zantac that's when I stopped taking any of the meds and went back to maalox and tums.

I hope they find out what's going on with you and you start feeling better soon!

SandyC 05-20-2008 07:58 PM

I have severe GERD and take Nexium. It works OK as long as I don't go off my diet too much. I've been on every med possible including Protonix. I've had issues since I gave birth to my second son. The last endoscopy showed severe redness and some erosion. Nexium is the last med to try and I am sure in time that too will stop working after some time. After that I think surgery is the only option unless a new pill comes out.

I hope you find some relief soon. I feel for you. I used to go through so many tests including upper GI, barium enema and endoscopy. It wasn't until the endoscopy that they found the GERD, post ulcerative scars and deformation at the duodenum.

ewizabeth 05-20-2008 08:14 PM

Dear Jappy,
I feel your pain! Literally! I go for a consult with the gastro doctor tomorrow. My PCP wants me to have the same thing, though I've put it off for a couple of months.

I'm on 40mg Nexium and have to watch my diet. I quit coffee and hot peppers. What's left?

I hope tomorrow will be uneventful for you dearie. I'll be in your shoes, probably in a week or two...

greta 05-20-2008 08:37 PM

Good luck to you - I hope they can find a reason for your troubles (and a way to fix it!!!)

NurseNancy 05-20-2008 08:49 PM

i had an endoscopy when they did my colonoscopy (oh joy :D)

they put me to sleep with versed. very effective.
didn't know a thing, didn't feel a thing.

i hope you're goes the same.

Koala77 05-20-2008 10:45 PM

You'll be right Joyce! I'm sure of it!

How can you not be with all of us on your side sending prayers, good wishes and good vibes! :D

I've joined the ranks of others with the GERD, and the daily Nexium.

Let's all hope that if they find anything at all, then GERD is all it will be.

Becky21 05-20-2008 11:39 PM

Good luck on your upper GI tomorrow. I hope the doctor can get you on the right medication to help you.

I have had stomach and colon problems for years. I had bleeding ulcers in 1983 and have been on all kinds of meds to control the problem of my stomach producing too much acid. I've have GERD also and I can not go without meds or another ulcer appears. The last time I stopped the meds, I had erosion of my esophogis and that really hurt so back on meds. I have polyps so I get a colonoscopy every 2 years. Yippee!!

I really don't know if they can get rid of the problem unless it is that e pylori condition that can be treated with antibiotics. The doctor will test for it when he does your upper GI. I was hoping I had it so it could be treated but I don't.

My Gasto for 25 years said that there are different things that affect people's stomach. I do much better when I don't eat anything before bedtime. I haven't found any particular food that bothers me more than others, it's just another mystery for me.

I just keep taking Prilosec and Rolaids. I hope you get some good news. I understand your frustration.

So sorry for all you are going through ~!

Yes, I have had swallowing problems and it lead to the exam/test (whatever its called DUH) and yes I have a hiatal hernia and GERD.

BUT for all of you that are taking meds, WAIT, dont you want to know what is causing it? OR how to avoid it?

I see an amazing nutritionist that can not only detect all kinds of problems, but can treat this more nutritiously with "whole foods" in tablet form that prevent it more naturally and find out what foods/ stress/virus is causing it. Be careful with any meds as they dont know how much or long you need it .. this guy can find out how long and ONLY for you, how much dose, or length of treatment.

Good luck

Jan

soxmom 05-21-2008 09:55 AM

Good luck tomorrow.:) We will all be thinking of you.

barb02 05-21-2008 01:06 PM

Jan4you, I am happy that the nutritionist approach is working for you, but I can not help being a little skeptical. How does this nutrionist figure out what food/stress/virus is causing your problems specifically? And how does he determine how your dosage and length of treatment? Are you referring to the tablet he provided or meds?

I know that there are certain foods that may exacerbate gerd.

SandyC 05-21-2008 01:26 PM

Same here. I have to take meds or I will choke in my sleep because the flap in my stomach does not work correctly on top of GERD. It hasn't worked correctly since birth and I almost died from it. No diet or less stress can change that. I only had one episode since then and I thought I was done. But, I do agree that eating better makes the acid less active, at least for me.

DM 05-21-2008 01:53 PM

Hello my lil Jappy~ I have had several Endo's, as have GERD also. They have had to stretch my esophagus several times due to the acid narrowing it making me feel like I am choking on food.. I always tell the Gastro that I don't want to feel a thing, and I never do. (even had some scar tissue removed last time).

I currently take Aciphex when I remember, and it seems to do the trick.

You'll do just fine tomorrow, Jappy! I'll keep ya in my prayers that you can get to feeling better really soooooon.

ewizabeth 05-21-2008 03:56 PM

Dear Jappy,

Still thinking about you! I hope it goes fast and you'll be feeling better soon.

I saw the gastro doctor today and learned a lot about reflux/GERD. He told me that I'll always have it, that there's no cure, it just needs to be treated. He said I'd have to be on Nexium for good. He said it can be controlled somewhat with modifying my diet but that won't cure it. I told him my Mom had GERD and he said it is hereditary. He also said that several of my medications can make it worse. He said that doing the scope is basically to make sure I don't have Barrett's esophagus.

I'm getting the scope and a colonoscopy done in a month both at the same time (since I'm 50.) Do you have to do a lot of prep for the scope? There is for the colonoscopy, I have to drink a gallon of putrid liquid. I hope they can get this under control for you!

Jappy 05-21-2008 05:38 PM

Back home.

Thanks everyone for your comments. It seems there are more
people that have the same stomach problems.

Same findings as before. Redness from the acid from the stomach
because there is damage to the flap that is supposed to keep acid in
stomach. Streched the esophagus. Took some tissue for biop.
Make an appt. for 4 weeks. Take Protonix twice daily. Of course
the diet of foods not to eat.
I will admit I am terrible on keeping the diet for certain foods.

WIZ ~~ the only thing I had to do to get ready for this test was
don't have anything to eat or drink after midnight.

Never was told that there is no cure for GERD. Then that is my answer
to why I am having on again off again problems.

Meds work for awhile then they don't. Change the med. and it is the
same thing over again.

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE

Jappy

Sally got your e-mail. Thanks

Shashi 05-21-2008 05:46 PM

Good luck with your endoscopy. I'm having one next Tuesday for GERD and swallowing problems.

Hugs,

Lisa

((((Jappy)))) So happy that the nasty test is over! Now maybe they can get you some relief from tummy troubles!

DM 05-21-2008 07:02 PM

:trampoline:JAPPY'S HOME!!!! :trampoline:

Glad that's over for you, Jappy! Now, you put your feet up and rest.

*fluffing pillow*

tovaxin_lab_rat 05-21-2008 09:21 PM

Yeah Jappy's home!!! Rest up. Hope the results come back quickly and you feel lots better soon! to you! Gentle ones.

SallyC 05-21-2008 11:12 PM

I;m glad that's over for you, Jappy. Feel better, Sweety..

MSacorn 05-21-2008 11:31 PM

Jappy
I'm a little late. Seems to be a pattern recently.

Anyway, glad the test is done. I've had a couple of upper GI's myself, one on xmas eve. Since I stopped working, going to school and stressing about every little thing, I rarely have problems. Mostly it's over eating, that flares it up.

I'm sending prayers and healing hugs :grouphug::hug: that you will be feeling better soon.
