I Just Saved $75 Per Month!!!

I'm trying to lower the total outgo of money each month since I am waiting for LTD to be approved.

I called around to different garbage pickup services in our area and got several quotes - one of which was $25 less per quarter than what I'm paying now.

I called my current service provider and told them I was going to switch to this other company because they could provide the same service for less money.

My service provider matched the other pricing!! They didn't want to lose a customer!!

I got my Charter bill in the mail today for the cable, Internet and telephone. Apparently all the promotional pricing has expired and my bill was $154. This is for all three combined but nevertheless it's alot of money.

I looked up other service providers online and found a deal through AT&T that was only $99.95 a month for the same services. I called Charter and after about 15 minutes on the phone with them they brought my monthly charges down to $104!! It's not worth the aggravation for me to switch for a $5 savings so I thanked them and this new pricing will be effective immediately. They told me to disregard the $154 on my current bill and just send the $104 in as they were going to make the adjustment to my account now!!!

If you think you're paying too much for something research the competitions prices and let your current service provider know that you'll switch unless they can match or beat the price. Chances are they don't want to lose a customer and will comply. I saved $75 per month with just 2 phone calls! :)

That's very cool! Good for you! :yahoo:

I just got the courage to trade neuros and I'm equally excited about that! :Excited:

Now if you go fill out this survey, you'll be in the running to win $200! http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread46736.html

Hello Kelly-
We use Bellsouth Internet, Home Telly, and Wireless (Michael does, they pay for mine from my office). We saw the $99.00 promotional deal and were thinking about changing everything over to another service for a month. We presently pay close to $190.00/mo for everything "bundled". I think I am going to call them tomorrow and see if they will negotiate with me. That's a great savings. You can get a tank of petrol with $75.00!:D

They'll work with you - they appreciate the fact that you call and give them a chance to meet or beat the competition's price.

I spoke with someone on the "Retention Team" so apparently I'm not the only person calling to let them know there are better deals to be found. They have a whole department dedicated to it!

I was really nice to him - almost made it seem like he was doing me the biggest favor - but I've found you get farther with people if you're friendly to them rather than accusing them of trying to rip you off!! They just work there....and they will be more apt to find you a good deal if they like you!! :) Good luck with your negotiating tomorrow!!

Great job on saving money. :D

I thought you were gonna say you switched to geico.

I'll let you know what transpires. If they give me a rough time, I'll remind them that "HEREKITTY" sent me.:D

Well sorry Kel and sorry Twink, but that same survey is running here in Oz so I daresay it's probably in every other English speaking country as well, and with only ONE $200 prize, and seeing I've also taken the survey, I wouldn't be getting your hopes up! :)

AfterMyNap 05-28-2008 07:02 PM

:mf_swordfight:Good job, Kelly! I'm a huge advocate of making those calls! Hold your breath now, bundles aren't always the best option. Most of the "deals" expire like yours did and it's buyer beware.

Another good way to go is to call directly into the cancellation department, they've kept my com bills at the same amount or lower for the last 5 years. My theory is that as the tech advances, the competition increases and gives me more leverage. Apparently, they see it that way as well.

Fight for your right to get it cheaper!!:Demonstration::Dancing-Chilli::Thanx:

I just read on another thread that there's 4 x $200 prizes, so that's OK, we'll have one each AMN and if we do it again, maybe we'll get two goes at the cash! :D

Noidy,

I thought she was going to say the same thing: sorta like the Love Child of the Geico Gecko and the Priceline Negotiator.. I think it's great.. Way to save money!!

Thanks, Baxter!! I hope others will find better deals and call their service providers and negotiate.

I can't take credit for the Angel Food Ministries, though. Sandy first posted about it but it's a great resource and I tell people about it because it's such a wonderful program. :)

I'm going through all my bills today and see what I can negotiate on next!!! Do you think American Honda will consider giving me a $99 car payment??!!:p

hollym 05-29-2008 08:35 AM

I did a similar thing with Verizon. I was going to switch to Vonage and they were able to put me into a different package and by combining my wireless with my landline, they were able to save me the same amount of money and it isn't a bundle promotion that will expire.

Ha! I took the survey - I'm gonna win!!

That's great news!

Oh how I miss being able to do stuff like that! I'm in one of those pockets of monopoly given as a part of the deregulation process. For those big utilities to agree to let it happen, the government let them have little pockets of the country where they are still the only available provider. Just our luck, we are in one of those areas.

LOL, If we moved only one development away, we'd be in a different situation.

Foggy Brain 05-29-2008 10:28 AM

:D Way to go on saving money, Kelly! :D After speaking with my cable/internet provider I found buying services "a-la carte" was actually less expensive than "bundling" the plans, as AMN suggested earlier. The original plan my ex-husband arranged was for $50/month/both services for three months, $80/month after six months, and $110/month after one-year.

At the end of the conversation the company settled on $40.00 a month for both services -- and without a contract! :) Of course I made changes to the services because the original plan offered more than what I actually needed, so it is always good to find out what the "bundle" offers.

Another thing individuals can do is call their utility companies and ask for some type of "budget" billing. :winky: With the natural gas provider I arranged for my monthly charges to be based on the averaged yearly costs. This way costs are equally divided throughout the year thus avoiding having to pay alot more in the winter months when more energy is used. :winky: I plan on doing the budget billing with my water/sewer/trash/electricity provider (the city) after I have services for over a year with them.

Kitty 05-29-2008 10:38 AM

I do the budget billing with my electric bill but the natural gas provider doesn't offer it. Trash pickup and water doesn't offer it either. I'd love to have it for gas, though, because some of my winter bills were quite high.

Do your own budget plan. I have a special account set up for stuff like this. I divide out what I spent last year and figure out how much money per week to stash. Then, I have the account set up to automatically transfer the right amount of money each week. I have oil heat, so I pay by the delivery and this is the only way I could do a "budget plan".

I don't know, but if they do let me know!!! :ROTFLMAO:

tkrik 05-29-2008 07:23 PM

Kelly, that's awesome. I love finding out ways to save. A few months ago I did negotiate with my phone/internet provider and was able to save quite a bit. They even gave me a credit for my internet service. YIPEE!!

Now I'm thinking, how much I will save if DD18 moves out! LOL. j/k
