What would you do with $30 million?
No.. I didn't win the lottery.. I wish! lol I was just wondering what everyone would do if they won a ton of money~
$30 million - would pay off both my house and my ex husband's house - give money to MS research - start an Autism Foundation in my son's name - pay off my bills & student loans - buy a bed I could sleep on, cause this Insomnia is for the birds! - trade my Hyundai in for something  and not worry about gas prices! - sign up for a DMD and not worry about the $1500/1900 a month - put the rest in the bank and live off the savings! Well.. it was nice dreaming for a second, now I have to come back to reality and finishing school and then trying to remain stable enough so I can work for a couple years and bank some money ~ will still play the lottery now and then :D Monique |
Buy a 46" catamaran and start sailing around the world. We'll do it someday, but we'd do it a whole lot faster with an extra 30M floating around!

It's too much money for me, so once DH and I got a house, we could pay off each of the kid's mortgages. I think I'd keep enough for us to live comfortably on, give some to our offspring, and donate the rest to charity.
I'm not saying that to sound like a Miss Goody-Goody, I think it's what I would actually do. At our age, DH and I couldn't spend that much in a lifetime, and I don't think giving it all to our children or grandchildren would make them better people. A few luxuries never hurt anyone, but I think too much money can actually ruin people. You only have to read the newspapers. Just MHO anyway. |
Oh OMG I play this game everytime I buy a lottery ticket :p DH gets annoyed with me when I ask him what he would want to do.
So I have a ready made list..I am a expert daydreamer :D 1. Buy a house (maybe two - this game goes along with if you could buy a house in 5 different places where would you buy them) 2. Open a spa and treat all of you to treatments 3. Rent an office for DH and pay people to call him (lets face it he needs someplace to go everyday) 4. Travel a bit, visit friends...take you all to visit Koala! 5. Pay for my brother's college...and beer money (sister of the year!) 6. Go back to school 7. Donate money to Uof M to get season football seats 8. Buy DM a new real tiara! OMG the list could go on and on. Oh yeah did I mention shopping..and therapy for my shoe addiction. |
OMG! I forgot the GTG in Australia that I would pay for you all to come to!
Please forgive me? :smileypray: |

I would replace every 10th light pole in my city to a wind turbine so that we can all have free electricity for life.
Furthermore, I would add solar panels to the homes in my entire neigborhood and then sell the electricity to the Suadis when they need it in 20 years!:D -Vic |
I would just buy a lifetime supply of duct tape.

My luck if I did win I would die from a heart attack just from hearing the news.
But if I didn't... I'd end up giving the majority away. I like helping people. :) Abbie |
incorperate myself and add all relatives as one time one paid employees for consulating, think with rest of it deb and I would open a house to help persons with issues from life mental, chronic illnesses, etc.... buy a car that runs on solar or battery
|
I'd start a trust fund that would help pay ppl's mortgage and bills while they are waiting to get approved for SSDI.
|
I would build a lovely community of affordable houses where people w/MS could live when they needed more than a little assistance.

 |
I would build a yarn store and hire people to run it for me, and then I'd go and sit in the store every day and crochet or knit.
I'd build a house for my sister wherever she'd like one built. I'd also have funds set up for my nieces to go to whatever school they wanted to attend until they've graduated. (that means from grade school on up to the highest educations they can attain if they want) My dad could quit his job and retire and do whatever the heck he wants to. My aunt could quit her job and do whatever the heck she wants to. I'd probably pay all the medical expenses for my other aunt that has a chronic medical condition (not MS) I'd build a house for myself, using stone from the debris made by the blasting that's done at Crazy Horse Memorial. I'd also donate a lot of money to the memorial so that the Sioux would be able to build their schools that they want built on the grounds around the memorial. Or at the very least, they'd be able to do a lot more blasting to carve more of the memorial I'd get my car (a '99 Toyota Rav4) fixed up. I'd buy a Bouvier des Flandres (a dog) and just have a blast training it. I'd donate money for MS and Austism research. I'd also probably ask my boyfriend to marry me and then we'd take vacations all over the world and visit museums and yarn stores all over the world. I'd love to visit famous battlefields that I've read about. (Culloden Moor in Scotland would be the first place I'd go visit) |
I play this game all the time.....if I actually played the lottery it would be more fun because I'd actually have a chance at winning!!
I would set up accounts for both of my boys and also pay off their vehicles. They have both done so much for me and have grown up to be such good young men. I just want to make life easier for them. I'd pay off every debt I owe and put enough in the bank to live off of comfortably...not elaborately...just comfortably. Like the others I would use a large part of it to help others who are hit with unfortunate circumstances through no fault of their own. Every day on the news I see people who have lost everything in a fire or some other tragedy and I think how nice it would be to just anonomously have a check delivered to them that they could use to start over again. I would also donate a huge chunk of it to the no-kill animal shelters here so that they could expand their programs to care for more displaced animals that just want a loving home. I could think of alot more but I need more coffee!! |
If I won 30 million dollars I would.....
Build a little chalet on a river of my choice. Build each of my children a house (nothing fancy just a nice warm home) Buy each of them a car (new and reliable but again not fancy) Pay off all my parents bills. Pay off my brothers' mortgages And make each one of my immediate family millionaires by giving them each 1 million dollars, I would also give a few of my close friends 1 million dollars Give to the charities and researches of my choice and then go shopping for all new things for me and my house. |
I'd give some to Motormommy so if she gets some, she'll give some to me, right?
jmiller, Duct Tape is not a good investment but you could buy some in different colors or are you a silver traditionalist? |

I got my moms mixed up!!!!! It's mom23angels I'd give money to!! Deal? |
Woo hoo ~ Sweet!
I don't need a lot of money actually, I am hoping to work after I finish this one year of school! I just worry that my sons are not going to college because of their disabilities and will not be financially independent. BUT, I am going to work as hard as I can for as long as I can (and I'll play the lottery when Mega Millions is over $100mil pots ;) But, we can definitely have an MS pool and help everyone in the group!! 1) Helping to get wind farms permitted in So. Cal (like the ones we did in Palm Springs). 2) Using my scooter as often as possbile for trips that are less than 25 miles long (round trip). 3) Working on the permits for a solar farm in the Mojave Desert (actually, it is an expansion of the farm that we helped permit two years ago. 4) Helping with a new electrical-water pumping project, wherein water in a 2 million gal tank on a hill flows through a bunch of turbines that generate electricity at the bottom of the hill during peak electricity use in So Cal (when electricity is at its highest price). The water is pumped back into the tank at night, when elctricity is the cheapest. Therefore, a profit is made by the client and electricity is added to the power grid. How does all of this help with reducing gas prices? It is the groundwork required to provide electricity in abundance for electric vehicles and residential power. At some point soon our reliance on oil will decrease when a viable alternative is available. And, we are on the way. Who ever would have thought that a lizard chaser (the field biologist) could do anything about this issue?:D -Vic P.S. I would not make a good President. |
Vic -
Well, I don't think I reach the age of a president yet (think its 35) so I have two more years to work on my platform. As far as gas.. I have three disgusting little boys that believe gas is FUN. I would bottle their methane for a year and then I would be able to reduce gas prices down to $1.50 for the next 3 years. I hope this would be enough to get me elected :) Monique |
If I won $30M, I would first :thud:.
Then, I would:yahoo::partytime2::Dancing-Chilli::Head-Spin::Excited:. Then, I would look for guidance and wisdom:smileypray: I'm sure I would chill for awhile trying to figure it all out:sunchair:. I'm sure I wouldn't rush into anything huge. After I picked myself up off the floor, I would have to just take time to think. I'm sure I would have to think on a beach somewhere warm and quiet.;) Things I would like to do for sure would be to get everything paid off and build a house that would really work for me and my family. I would want it to be as green as possible, too. I would get the Endless Pool I've been dreaming of, too. I would like to have a new geothermal heating / ventilating system put into my 125 year old church. That way, the church wouldn't have to pay exhorbitant gas bills in the winter and have no cooling in the summer. I would pay for college for all of my friends' and relatives' kids. I would pay for the rest of the renovations on a friend's house (she's been trying to slowly get it all done for years). I think I would take everything else one thing at a time. I'd like to do a lot of charity work. I would love to set up a charitable foundation to benefit all of my favorite causes. Oh it's just all too much to think about! |
I am secretly hoping to win the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes. I would buy a house that would fit Jim perfectly, Tara (GWTW) style. Buy my sister, mom and kids a house. Then I would sit back and donate to charity and sip margaritas on my new rocking chair wrap around front porch.
Oh yeah, and turn off the phone to any and all lost relatives and bad investors. And build an amusement park where all the rides accomodate wheelchair users and those with disabilities. Lifts would be installed at all rides if needed. Hotel on site as well. |
I'd leave the country, and go to someplace with free healthcare.
Now in europe, our money means squat, but Cuba is pretty. |

If I won the lottery :Scratch-Head: Well I have 2 plans just in case it happens. lol
First plan - I'm sure I would :yikes:then:thud: and my luck probably die of a heart attack! So if I do I want to have a few days like Weekend At Bernies  At least let me enjoy it before you bury me! lol (please know I'm only joking, I won't win the lotto! lol) Second plan - I would make sure that my mom and brother and his wife are taken care of plus dh's family. Also a few of my immediate family. I would buy a penthouse suite here in Houston for vacations and my primary house would be on my own deserted island. I would buy a bunch of land and open an animal rescue site for animals of all kind. I'd wouldn't donate to any charities, instead I would give the money personally to those who need help. There's so much I would want to do that 30 million probably wouldn't be enough! :Rich: |

"pictures doctor standing over me with a rusty saw and some leeches" Yea, very good point indeed. |
Well, I'd get some new shoes and a matching purse. Then plan a family vacation to end all family vacations for next January if possible! I'd buy a beautiful lakefront home on Big St. Germain in N. Wisconsin (I have a few possible ones in mind.) Our sons love it up there as much as us. It would be one of the really big ones with a large guest house.
I'd start a small family business that our sons could run after I retire. I'd fund a really BIG international GTG for all of us. :grouphug: DM could wear her crown, RW could plan the beverages, AMN could plan the fun and games, Char could hire a Maine cook to take care of our breakfasts, :p and there would be similar jobs available for others if they want to help. Those who couldn't afford to get there would have their transportation paid. It would be a location with a white sandy beach, a spa, near great shopping and restaurants, with a tropical climate but not too hot, a water park and nightly entertainment. Also room service in our suites. I'd invest enough for a lifetime of comfortable income. Then I'd set up trust funds to help people with MS with various needs. I'd also give a big check to each of my favorite charities. I'd add onto the house with a pool room, greenhouse and extra three car garage with a HUGE workshop (for DH). I'd hire Cheryl to do fabulous landscaping for this, as well as our new Florida and Wisconsin homes. Those would be starters to keep me busy for awhile. lol |
That's almost too many zeroes to contemplate! I could give almost all of it away, and still live comfortably forever!
I would bring my friend Anne home from the nursing home. She had a stroke two years ago (she's 57). I could pay for round the clock care for her, so she could be back home with her husband and dog again. I would tell my two (adult) kids and their spouses, and my granddaughter, that I will match whatever they earn. I would build a one story, accessible house and a small barn on enough acres that my husband could have all the miniature animals he's always wanted (donkeys, horses, sheep, cows, goats, etc.) and a little tractor. (All men want tractors) I would donate big to my denomination's compassionate ministries; to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, NMSS (of course), American Cancer Society, Heart Fund, and several other organizations. I would throw a barbecue/field day for the whole town, with live bluegrass music. Tomorrow would be my last day at work. I'm still thinking. |
#1 Quit my job. None of that "Oh, I am still going to work" stuff. I am out of there!! :yahoo:
#2 Hire a darned good tax attorney and an accountant to set up a trust before I claimed the winnings. :Clever: # 3 Disappear until everyone forgot I won...:p #4 Figure out what the heck I was going to do next while chilling with my lawn chair and drink...:sunchair::thud::yahoo::trampoline::yikes: :nopity::Head-Spin::sing::Dancing-Chilli::Rich: |

I'd buy a business or start a business, something to do with renewable power or "green" power and saving our natural resources.
I like the idea of making solar panels /systems more affordable and more mainstream for everyone. I would employ people with limitations & health concerns & have flexible hours for those that need it. |
