tkrik's mishap

tkrik (Tricia) from Tucson was supposed to come to our Phoenix GTG yesterday at Famous Dave's. I spoke with her right as she was about to leave her house. Made sure she knew where to come and how to get there. It's about a 90 min. drive from her place.

She was late! Kept looking for her and her DD to show up, but they never did. Continued dialing her number, but no answer.

Finally today she answered her phone. *whew!* Turns out that she collapsed. Scared her DDaughter, Shannon, to death!

The Nurse Practitioner at the clinic said she was dehydrated, so they gave her some IV fluids and a scolding to drink more water! Tricia had been on antihistamines/decongestants for seasonal allergies, and they sucked all her fluids out and messed with her electolytes.

She does not have computer access right now at DB's place, but he is making sure she drinks her Gatorade.

Thought you'd all like to know. She says she's okay and will post later.

Foggy Brain 06-01-2008 04:26 PM

Thanks for the update, Twinks! :) To tell you the truth, it was sorta disappointing not seeing Tricia in the picture. :( Thank goodness she is okay and is on the mend. It is unfortunate that she was unble to attend the GTG - maybe the third Phoenix GTG in June will be the charm for her! :p

CayoKay 06-01-2008 04:44 PM

hugs to TK !!

and thanks for posting, Twink.

Desinie 06-01-2008 04:50 PM

I hope she feels better soon and makes sure she's getting enough fluids ( electrolytes). That had to be scary.

Aarcyn 06-01-2008 05:00 PM

I am glad you heard from TK. I look forward to meeting her someday soon.

barb02 06-01-2008 05:26 PM

Tricia, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!!! Sorry, I did not mean to yell:hug:

yeahbut 06-01-2008 05:43 PM

Drink, Drink, Drink! sorry to hear Tricia but glad you are getting better!

Kitty 06-01-2008 05:48 PM

Oh dear, Tricia! I hope you're feeling better. I'm sure the heat doesn't help matters, either. Please take care of yourself - and make sure you drink your water. I find that I can drink more if I use a straw. Not sure why - maybe it's easier for me that way - but I know I drink a lot more when I use one. :)

Thanks, Twink.

You'll be happy to know that her DD Shannon (who just barely got her Driver License) had planned on driving tkrik to the Phoenix GTG. But yes, they were blessed to be home when it happened -- always better there, plus she knew the Nurse Practitioner at the Clinic.

I failed to mention that Tricia FELT SO MUCH BETTER after they treated her. She hadn't felt that good for more than a week.

Hang in there dear Tricia! Isn't it nice to know you have so many nice folks who care about you? ;)

Victor H 06-01-2008 10:20 PM

Tricia,

I don't know how they are rehydrating you, but I am glad that it has worked.

Believe me when I say that Gatorade is much tastier than Pedialite (...which was no fun to experience - though it worked very well).

I suggest that you carry a few bottles of Pedialite in your car and at home at all times. It works, quickly.:)

On a side note, I still wonder why we "experienced" desert dwellers/workers dehydrate ourselves so often. It is just another mystery to resolve.

RO - thank you for the updates. They are appreciated greatly.:)

thanks twink I was worried about my buddy, I had not seen t post in a few days, tell her frank says get better soon i miss chatting with her

Becky21 06-01-2008 11:27 PM

Trish,

Oh, you poor little thing! I know that must have scared you silly. I am glad you are doing better. These meds we are on are so dehydrating and with the summer coming, I don't think we can drink enough water. I drink it all day and all night and still feel dehydrated.

Be careful and take care.

tkrik 06-01-2008 11:32 PM

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I am doing better. I have been downing water and Gatorade like crazy as well as sticking with my EmergenC vitamin drink and no more Claritin-D.

Here I thought all the weakness and fatigue I felt was from MS. Dehydration never crossed my mind. However, I am glad it was not the MS as I was beginning to think I was in a flare, AGAIN!

Oh Twink, we were at the gas station topping off the tank and getting ice to put in the ice chest. Funny, here I was getting ice to keep us cool just in case the car broke down or we got a flat as the ice would help keep us cool in the desert heat. Little did I know that once I attempted to get out of the car, down I would go. :icon_redface::icon_redface: I so wish I was at home when it happened.

Although I am still a little more fatigued than usual, the muscle weakness is much, much better. DBF was a great but stern nurse as he knows how hard it is for me to sit still especially when he was doing fun stuff like painting the dining room. Oh well, there is always the kitchen.:D

suzyqz_2007 06-02-2008 12:23 AM

 Glad to hear you are feeling better. Just rest and take care of yourself, and be sure you keep drinking lots of water!

PolarExpress 06-02-2008 04:50 AM

Sounds like a scarey time for everyone! Tricia, I'm glad you're doing so much better. It's amazing how easy it is to become dehydrated, and not even realize what's happening 'till you're on the floor. Take care of yourself, girl!

Kitty 06-02-2008 06:37 AM

I'm so glad you're feeling better. Thank goodness your daughter was with you. And, like AMN said, thank goodness you weren't driving!!

Now behave and drink your water!! :)

DM 06-02-2008 08:05 AM

Sorry I'm late at seeing this Tricia, (been offline) but I am so glad you are starting to feel better. Thankfully, your DD was w/you.

Take care and thinking of ya!!

sassy 06-02-2008 08:21 AM

Glad to hear you're on the mend. You must have scared the heck out of your daughter!

BaxterTheBunny 06-02-2008 08:29 AM

Oh man! Glad you're gonna be okay.

SandyC 06-02-2008 11:18 AM

Trish, two years ago we were down in Tennessee for my mom's breast cancer surgery. Jim started getting a fever and acting odd. He kept getting worse so I rushed him back here to Chicago and he was admitted into the hospital. Several hours later, after one ct scan, lumbar puncture and blood work, it was ruled that he was simply dehydrated. His meds weren't flushing correctly due to the dehydration. That explained the odd behavior, at least for that moment. ;) He stayed in the hospital for a week.

So, lesson here is drink fluids, eat well and stay out of the sun. :D

weegot5kiz 06-02-2008 11:55 AM

hey sandy did you notice on the daily insight thread no mention of this, almost like nothing wrong, but we know better. someone dehydrating in a desert unbelievable, sense my sarcasm T. we care for you I do, and dont want anything bad happening, please take care of yourself, please:hug::hug::hug::hug:
