thoracic arachnoid cyst

Hello!
I am a first-timer. Most of these posts are regarding brain cysts, but I have recently had thoracic surgery to remove an 8.1-cm thoracic cyst. I have not had good recovery and my neurosurgeon tells me I have permanent nerve damage and suggests a spinal stimuator implant. Do any of you have experience with a thoracic arachnoid? What do we know about the success of spinal stimulators?

Thanks,
teresaf101

Hello Teresa, and welcome to neuroTalk.

From what you've said in your introduction, I assume that you've already checked Arachnoid Cysts in our General Health Conditions & Rare Disorders Forum. Incase you haven't found it, here's the direct link : http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum2.html

Do not despair. May I suggest the you post your own queries there as well. Hopefully one or more of our other members may still be able to give you the information that you seek.

Hi Teresa,
I had an arachnoid cyst removed over a month ago from t1-t4 area and having major complications. Are you walking? If so, how long did it take you to recover. I see you have some nerve damage... What is that affecting? I can't walk walk due to my left leg being so week and numb.

I have just found out that I have a subarachnoid cyst on my thoracic spine. Can anyone who has had surgery for this give me an idea of what to expect? I see a neurosurgeon in 2 weeks but am going nuts wondering what will happen. I'm having fairly serious issues with pain, numbness, and loss of strength in my hand and arm so I'm guessing some form of surgery but beyond that I have no idea. How long does recovery take? How do they actually remove the cyst? I'm going crazy trying to find out anything as I keep finding information about arachnoid cysts in the brain as well.

I'm sorry your having a difficult time. May I ask you a question. After your surgery did you have a hard time sitting Up. I had almost 10 cm arachnoid cust T2 to T 9. Dr did lamenectomy and fenstration with shunt a month ago and I'm still having trouble sitting up. It burns and a lot of pressure. Did you have this also? Thanks
