It's always fun for me to imagine what my board buds look like, how they live, or what they're really like in person. Most of the time, my guesses are pretty good. Other times, I have been completely, totally, incontrovertibly in the wrong universe!

Case in point, when I first encountered a particular online friend, I was convinced that she was a flustered, confused, slightly daft, pitiful, roly-poly, old bat with thick, dirty glasses and thigh-highs rolled down over her hairy ankles. Mrs. Doubtfire, on a bad day.

Has anyone else had a similar awakening?

yes, it was none other than DM!

Bannet 06-12-2008 02:36 PM

OMG that is so funny!! I thought almost the same thing about DM. Reading her posts I truly thought she was how should I put it.....Matronly:eek: Flower dress down to her knees big thick glasses. I'm sure you can imagine the rest:eek:

AfterMyNap 06-12-2008 02:39 PM

LOL!

Sassy was another one, for some reason I thought she would be quite tall and dressed in a professional's suit when me met. She's pretty normal, a jeans and sweater chick!:D

Bannet 06-12-2008 03:05 PM

I pictured Sassy as tall with black hair. glasses that just sat on the tip of your nose (like old teachers would wear) and very serious. A get to the point typle person:cool:

Aarcyn 06-12-2008 03:08 PM

Mamma's Kids avatar throws me off. Not sure of my mind's picture.

That being said, my own image (not avatar since I do not have one, yet). I decided to stop coloring my hair, to see what it looked like naturally.

I look at photos and wonder who that old woman could be and it is weird to realize it is me.

And DM, I first thought she looked like Tinkerbell. Imagine my shock.

mom23angels 06-12-2008 03:13 PM

I met someone online. It's kinda bad to think stereotypes but he had THE strongest British accent you would ever hear. He told me on the phone that his appearance was of Indian heritage, and we did meet eventually. My mind could not accept it *lol* and it was just hard to get used to this good looking Indian guy speaking the Queen's english.

I also met someone online, a guy, that was like 5'0 or so. He wanted to date and I'm 5'10.. oh my, I told him I could carry him around like a little baby!

As for myself *lol* I am a relaxed, class-clown type.. hmmm, like on here :) If we ever have a Georgia GTG.. then people can find out! :)

Too funny, now that I think about it, Taffy was another one who caught me off-guard. I pegged her as the girl from Grease, well, just look:

Attachment 3203

She's actually a tall, svelte blonde!

tamiloo 06-12-2008 03:37 PM

I met my Olhipie online and the rest is a grand love story!!:inlove:

ewizabeth 06-12-2008 03:37 PM

I have one online friend I sent a photo to. She said I was way different than she imagined. She'd imagined me as a blonde.

I figured DM was pretty much as she is! Except I have to admit, everybody I've met is so much better looking than their photos!

You're all just a bunch of cutie patooties! ;) :grouphug:

ewizabeth 06-12-2008 03:40 PM

I picture Taffy as short and cute with blonde-streaked hair and always smiling. Am I close? :Scratch-Head:

tkrik 06-12-2008 03:41 PM

Oh, I don't like this game. [insert smiley with biting nails] LOL.

I know this sounds weird, but I see emotions long before physical images/attributes. Take Twink, after reading a few of her posts on another forum all I "saw" was sparkling eyes and laughter. The same is true for many others. I see the emotions and the physical stuff.

I do this carp all the time. I have a friend who keeps insisting that I become a profiler. NO WAY! DDs and DBF get freaked sometimes when I do this.

First Impressions:

Bannet - I see as this warm and compassionate person. If you were to show up at her house you would be welcomed with open arms and a hug.

AMN - I see laughter. If I ever show up at your house, I will be bringing and wearing Depends. LOL.

Aarcyn - Very kind, sweet, and intelligent.

Mom23angels - A fighter. The mark that you make in this world will bring so many good things to others.

karousel 06-12-2008 03:55 PM

There are some I met face to face that looked nothing like I expected and others look like I thought. I will be finally meeting one of my cyber friends next week and I have a picture of her in my head. I wonder if she'll look anything like I think!

Trish:hug: yep you pretty much pegged me right. Come on over and have a seat. HungrY? Thirsty? Can I get you anything?:)

Bannet 06-12-2008 04:27 PM

Yep Momma's avatar throws me off too! I constantly think she looks like that and have grown to love her:D

Twinkletoes 06-12-2008 04:44 PM

Easily influenced

I've met quite a few board buddies in the past year. The one who actually looks most like her name is Girlie Girl!

It can really throw me if someone's username has a noun in it and there is no accompanying picture. You know: AfterMyNap should have looked sleepy, (far from it!), Bannet should wear a bonnet (haven't met her yet), etc.

OR, I get used to looking at an avatar and expect Wiz to be wearing cleaning lady garb, like one of Carol Burnett's characters. Lol!

Taffy is in her kitchen stretching candy.

Karousel is a fairy on a merry-go-round.

Soxmom is herding kids in sock feet.

Tamiloo sounded like a blonde, and she IS!

tkrik just has to be cute cuz her name is!

I met Aarcyn not long ago and was very pleasantly surprised (c'mon, her name suggests setting fires), lol

Thanks Mom23Angels for including your pic so I know right away you don't actually have wings and 23 kids! :)

I don't dare tell you what I think of when I see the name Doody. :o Why don't these people include pics?

I imagine you have a red car.:)

Bannet 06-12-2008 06:08 PM

This is what I truly pictured AV8rgirl to look like. I mean its not bad or anything it's just the first image I had of her when I first got involved in the boards.

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...1/aviacion.jpg Am I close???:D

Koala77 06-12-2008 06:57 PM

Not fair....you guys have already seen what I look like in my avatar.....

See me now with my laughing eyes and little chubby cheeks? I look a bit like a boy in this one, but I am a girl.....promise! :D

DM 06-12-2008 07:01 PM

STOP!!! HOLD THE PRESSES!!!!

Why do I get 2, count em TWO votes for looking like Mrs. Doubtfire??? The first time I met AMN, that is exactly what she told me. I am rebelling against this thread.

I thought AMN would have buck teeth and a squirt gun... Oh wait, that was the 2nd meeting. I look just like I have a tiara on my HAID!! Oh wait again~~~~

I DO!! *grin*

Bannet 06-12-2008 07:03 PM

This is the honest truth.

When I first came to the boards I thought DM and AMN knew each other personally.

So in my minds eye thinking DM was old I also pictured AMN as old. I thought to myself "I wonder if they get together and play bridge or maybe their big night out each week was playing Bingo. I obviously didn't have a clue:D

Friend2U 06-12-2008 07:06 PM

I am too chicken...

to show my face. But I DO, REALLY DO, appreciate those of you who share your photos. I don't really open up, or complain, in real life. So, I guess I'm afraid if I really show who I am, I'll haved to admit that I really am in this current situation. I guess I am just a very guarded person.

But I'm game Cindy, feel free to guess!!!!!! :wink:lol:Dlol:p

Put yer teeth in Cin~ Bethie called N 44.

BINGO!!! :D

kicker 06-12-2008 07:24 PM

I thought DM was a large soft grand-motherly woman too!!! I thought AMN had freckles. Av8girl I did picture like an Amelia Earhart type. But then I saw some photos and thought you all looked so good, really!! Young too.

I pictured Sassy as a woman in skirt suits (kinda tweedy), very sterotypical librarian. Then I saw her in a picture with her horse, I think. FFM looks just like CBK.

That is so funny. I could see it to. lol. Sorry guys but I kind of got that same impression - older, mid-fifties, Lucy and Ethel duo. LOL.
