School's out for the summer

Yay! School is over for the year and my kids are happy. As most of you know Johnny graduated high school and come fall my baby Michael will be a freshman.

You know what??? I don't even know why I'm writing this LOL. I think it is out of pure boredom. I had so much fun last night with a bunch of us goofing off on the boards and tonight I'm sitting here at 7:30 pm bored out of my skull.

My house is quiet
The boards are quiet
and I'm bored.

Anyone have anything exciting to talk about????

Friend2U 06-12-2008 07:16 PM

Beth,

I am always thankful for the summer....just as ready as the kids. I work in an elem school. MOST of the kids are ALWAYS glad for summer. There has been talk of year around school. I hope, hope, hope, that never happens. I always enjoy getting to spend more time with my own kids for awhile in the summer!!!

Sorry you are bored!!!!!:p I was just cleaning out a closet....that was not very exciting!!!!! I did read a book from the library this week. Something I hadn't done for a while. It's kinda nice to just melt away into someone else's world for a while!!!!:D

I love to escape into a good book. I read them quite often.

Now that I no longer work I love having the kids home for the summer. We have the house that all the kids tend to gather at. We have 9 acres so we have dirtbikes, A swimming pond stocked with fish and we have bon fires every weekend,

I would rather have kids at my house than mine going somewhere else. I tend to worry and this way I know what they are doing around here.:)

We used to have school year round but because of budget cuts they discontinued it about 8 years ago.

Take care.

Beth,
You have a good thing going with having all the kids gather at your house. I was always VERY selective of who my kids went home with. That's great that the kids love to come over to your place.

I'm curious, how did you like going year round? Maybe if you are used to it, it's okay. Longer breaks periodically throughout????

karousel 06-12-2008 08:12 PM

7 more school days for my daughter. Then I'll loose all my me time and get lots of time to spend with my favorite person in the whole wide world!!!

School all year round sounds kind of interesting. As long as I'm not the one going. :D How did the kids like it?

Bannet 06-12-2008 08:15 PM

I didn't really care for it. We only did it for 1 year before they discontinued it. The kids would get long weekends or a 2 week break now and then. Things like that.

I thought it was too much for the kids but that was just my opinion. My dh thought it was good for them.

Yipee! Let the fun begin at Beth's house. It is nice having the kids home during the summer.

Although DD16 is in summer school right now. She'll end at the end of this month. She had a 4 day weekend (Memorial Day weekend) between the end of school and the beginning of summer school. She is excited that it will end soon. Funny, going to summer school was her choice and now she can't wait for it to be over? LOL

I'm always amazed at parents who dread summer holidays - I think it would be a blast. A great chance to spend some fun time with your kids without really having to worry about responsibilities and bedtimes!

Sounds like you are ready for a fun summer!

Bannet 06-13-2008 09:21 AM

Yep!! I love it when my boys are home. Or when my eldest boy comes to visit and we are all together. I have a blast with them.

We all goof off, go swimmin in the pond, have bonfires etc.

It's also funny how they will bring up things such as when they would get in trouble and how I would handle it. And the mistakes they feel I made as I was raising them:rolleyes:

Yep I love it when my kids are here.

I always loved spending time with my boys when they were younger. I still do....it's just that they are 21 and 25 now. And both are here at home with me!! But I love it. We all get along - they have grown up to be very kind and loving young men. I'm blessed.

When they were young we'd play badminton in the backyard until we were exhausted and sweaty then jump in the pool and cool off. Then we'd eat watermelon on newspapers spread out on the porch. Those were the days. I miss them.

Summers are what I enjoy about being an at home mom. For years I
have taken(for no charge) friends of my children for weeks at a time.
This helps the parents out and I dont have to worry about playdates.

Weve got an ;inground pool, quads, dirtbikes all on a few acres with hundreds
of acres surrounding us.:) Ive never sent my kids to too many camps as
we have camp at our house.:) I love to see them build huge forts with
blankets in our family room, I love when they put on shows or plays. I
feel like the rest of ;the year is sooooooo scheduled that it is nice to
just hang in the summer.:D

Enjoy your summer everyone, we have one more week of school. Im
leaving in two hours to help with field day! Its not too hot out so this
should be fun.

Sox, my boys used to do the same thing!! They had a couple of friends in the neighborhood that always seems to end up at my house. I didn't mind 'cause then I knew where my boys were and what they were doing.

They also rode in the laundry basket down the staircase!! it was loud and a little nerve wracking at first but they had a ball!!

I really do miss those days. :)

Well Kelly, with both boys home this summer.....why dont you put one
in a laundry basket and give him a big push down the stairs:D...relive
the old days........just be mighty careful;)

Michael my 14 yr old does it everytime he's bringing his dirty clothes down. Instead of carrying the basket he rides it:eek:

Taffy 06-13-2008 10:04 PM

Taffy makes it home from work on the last day of school.
Too tired to climb the steps into the house, she crawls and continues to crawl to the sofa. Once splatted on the sofa, in a weaken voice she starts to sing...

"school's out for summer" or how Taffy likes to say it..."school's out for summar".

Summer plans? :Zzzz:

My boys have been home for a few weeks from college. I just said today that I need to get out and mow the yard to keep my tummy from hanging over. They wont even let me do dishes! I never thought I'd say that! lol

Jim and I may stay here to pay off the house before we go to Tennessee. It occured to me that if we wait 5-10 years we could be grandparents by then! Oh my. lol
