Here's Alan's C.R.O.W. boot!!!
Thought you might like to see what a Charcot Restraint Orthotic Walker (C.R.O.W.) looks like (wow, that's a mouthful).
Oh, by the way, he just had his follow-up at Beth Israel yesterday. His foot ulcer was debrided and he goes back in 3 weeks. The doctor said it was okay to keep padding it the way we did until the shoe guys see it. They were not there yesterday. Ulcer is looking good though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAnnQZj-XUQ |
May just be my browser but I wasn't able to get it to play. I'll try again later with IE.

I just clicked on the link that I had inserted and I was able to view it just fine. Give it another shot!!! Take care, Melody P.S. I use Mozilla Firefox |
sometimes YouTube
freezes.... you just have to go back.
It is typically very bad in the wee hours of the day. (I think they do maintenance etc then). The boot looks spiffy...it also looks HOT in this weather. It would drive ME nuts.:o |
Hi alan, your looking good looks a bit like Bob's and had no trouble seeing it.
Hugs Sue |
I must say, he NEVER complains. Every morning, after he does his stretches in the bed, I take the boot, put the padding over his psoriasis (which is getting better because nothing is rubbing on it), then we put on the boot. He wears it until he goes to bed. His foot has never touched the ground since he got this CROW thing. perhaps this will be the way for his foot ulcer to heal completely.
One can only hope so. But I agree. As a gal, if I had to wear this thing which reaches to the knee, well, it's been almost 98 degrees as of late, well, I don't think I'd be as cooperative as he has been. Got to hand it to him. He never complains. |
:grouphug: foot wounds that don't heal are so scary :grouphug:
I've read a few of your posts but I still don't know every thing about your back story. If it hasn't been done recently I would like to suggest a Doppler of the leg related to the wounded foot. I also suggest that you, or he, check for pulse in the leg all the time. :grouphug: I hope the foot wound heals quickly without infections :grouphug: |
Hi hon.
He's had the doppler. and he always gets his pulse checked. His pulse is strong and sound. He does not have Periperal Vascular disease. He has CIDP, and because he has neuropathy, he never knew he had the foot ulcer because he went on a treadmill during cardiac rehab (he had a stent put in). So for two years, (because of the positioning of the bone in his foot), his ulcer could not heal because he put his foot down on the floor. He no longer can do this because of the C.R.O.W. boot. The doc thinks that this time will be the charm. Oh, he's not diabetic by the way. Melody |
Interesting...
thanks so much for sharing!:D
It's great he does not complain!:D You must take really good care of him?:winky: And vice versa! |
Got it to work finally. Updated FF to the 3.0 version a bit ago. Boy, I'd hate to make him mad and he kick me with that thing! LOL!! How's it working out for him?

Alan has never kicked a thing in his life. Thank god he's a mellow fellow!!!
He's doing nicely and the foot ulcer is healing very nicely. The shoe guy called us up this morning just to check up on Alan. Alan was still sleeping. I explained how I had to pad the front because of his psoriasis lesions. We see this guy in about 10 days. He said to bring in his other shoes just in case they can't adjust the CROW boot in the office and they need to take it back with them. So he'll walk in with the CROW boot, but he might have to walk out with his new custom molded shoes. Shouldn't be too much of a problem because his feet never touch the floor. He goes from the boot to the bed and from the bed to the boot. So it is completely oft loaded. Take care, melody |
Ya know, we all take our feet so for granted until something goes wrong, be it PN or any number of disorders and problems. Heck, this applies to just about any body part you can think of. I try to be grateful for the things I *do* have.
I'm glad to hear the ulcer is healing. I hope it goes all the way this time and that in a bit this will be a thing of the past. It's a wonder any of us are sane or not grouchy and sniping all the time, what with all we have to put up with. Alan sounds like a really nice guy from the video and two thumbs up for that! And for you too! You take such good care of him! He's very blessed to have you. :) I'm babbling a bit tonight. Sorry about that. Been a long couple of weeks and tonight is the first time in that long that I've felt almost normal. |
Strangers always ask me when they see my boot "what'd you do, kick your husband?"
Nope, my ex :D |
