AMN -- I Love you!!!
Hehe...
I just got back from the MS Expo and guess what I got??!??! PENS!!!!!!:thud: Pens.. a tshirt...mugs.. bath salts...lip balm..tons of goodies.. but mostly.. PENS!! And I met other people with MS which was great.. so I'm glad I went. I also learned a lot. I thought my immune system is suppressed and I'm likely to catch colds and things but the doctor pointed out my immune system is overactive.. a super immune system which makes sense. I just wish I had met some of the others on this board from GA there today.. maybe another time!! AMN -- > http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...S/thankyou.gif |
So funny!
Monique - you made me laugh on that one! (Expos are great for that stuff)....
But re: pens... Every time I go to my neuros office - when you have to sign in - they have a cup of pens to use - I always help myself to 3 or 4 or more... they're all different drug companies. I usually take one of each! LOL I asked the first time I did it - (I think it was a Betaseron pen - it was a NICE pen)....and they told me go for it. So, now I go for it every time. I actually ran into neuro's office last week to pick up a prescription....and I grabbed some more. I love pens! ~Keri |
This made me laugh! Did you know that Staples Disease skips a generation? My daughter rolls her eyes while my granddaughter and I go up and down the aisles at Staples, ooh-ing and aah-ing over the pens and pencils and markers, etc. (Not to mention paper, file folders, post-its, dots, etc.)
My daughter will say, "You already have a zillion pens!" and my granddaughter and I will say in unison, "But this one is DIFFERENT!" My daughter's inheritance will include plastic shoeboxes full of pens. |
My dad gets all sorts of free pens from the drug companies that bring all sorts of free goodies to his work (he's a nurse anesthetist at the hospital he works at)
My aunt (a nurse practitioner) goes to all sorts of conferences and brings back all sorts of free goodies. Once at christmas, she was giving the male relatives remote control race cars that had Viagra advertisements all over them. |
I wish I could have gone....I just cannot drive that distance AND I will not get on I-285 unless someone else is driving! :o
Maybe there will be more MS events that aren't so far away. This was quite a trip for you, too, cause you're in southeast Georgia!! I'm in north Georgia and probably the same distance away as you are just from a different direction. I'm glad you had fun...and got some pens!! :) |
See... some people just don't understand!! I spent most of my time at the Expo with one young lady and she was laughing as I ran around the table at the sessions and took all the extra pens.
I asked her.. don't you have ANYTHING in your life like when I walk into Staples.. the sun comes out like a beam of light from g-d and I hear harps playing in the background. Her husband/fiance was cracking up laughing...why? Because he goes to the African American business conferences and takes all the pens there!! Only someone else with the same love of pens would truly understand. She is on Tysabri and we talked about that and she said something about not emailing me back if something happens with it and she dies.. which is a horrifying thought so I tried to lighten the moment and told her I would go to her house and get all her Expo pens! I even scored a magnetic closing pen on a string.. Woo Hoo.. it's mine and I'm not sharing it!! |

Aww.. I understand and YES it was quite a hike! Not to mention when I drove in there were torrential downpours and I could barely drive my car. There was probably 200 people there which wasn't a bad turn out.. but someday we'll meet..even if I have to drive over there!! |
Glad you had a good time. Those Expos are great. I love pens too! I picked up this really great pen at a landscape software training class in january that lights up when you click it!
I am always looking for pens that are comfortable. I found one at Office Depot that is ergonomically built for comfort but I keep misplacing it. I am a pen junkie too! Is there a pen junkie anonymous club? |
If there is one, I'll sign up! Um...can I borrow your pen? :D
|
Why don't ya'll start a "pen collectors with MS" social group here on NT!! :D
Looks like you already have several people who would love to become members!! I'm sure AMN can tell you how to get it up and running!! :p |
Ohhhh Kelly...
Are you double dog daring me? *lol* I would do it to! The best part of the expo.. the pens..are FREE!! My two favorites: 1. pens 2. free stuff |
My husband used to work in the pharmacy at the hospital (now he's in IT), and he would bring home tons of pens every day (along with stickies, clocks, coasters, etc.). But they are those big fat pens, and I cannot write with those. So when I go to my MS support group, I used to bring pens and pass them around!! Now that he is no longer getting these pens, the fun is over. :(
|
I have a ton of Rebif pens. Well, OK, not a ton but we have about 12 of them from the MS Walks we have done. They are always giving away free stuff at the walks including food!
|
A magnetic closing pen on a string? Now that sounds kewl!
I am so glad you had fun and got lots of free stuff to boot! |
I love the fat pens. I find them less taxing for carpel tunnel issues. I also like the ones with the rubber that is cut in and out so it feels flexible.
Glad you had a good time Monique! Glad you could cheer up your tysabri friend. Most people seem so happy to be on it!!! |
Bwaahhhaahaaaahaa, I was there also, and I actually went up to some lady who I thought might be you Monique...t'weren't, though, ;), unless you were playing games. :D
We only stayed for the first session and the lunch, dh was taking notes for me because I couldnt understand/hear much and his notes were lookin' pretty sparse, lol. Glad you got a copy of that book, I did also and found some interesting tips. |

Gosh.. now you're taxing my brain b/c I'm trying to remember now if I saw you. I had a ponytail so my hair wasn't like it is in the picture. I went to the Immune session first and then the 'let's talk about MS' after lunch.
Copaxone/or the company that makes it was the one that sponsored the event *lol* so I KNOW they weren't going to let any of the other DMDs there...but I did wonder the same thing why the other companies weren't around. But they probably said, we'll sponsor the event but we're going to be the only drug therapy there. Next time we'll have to meet up! If I would of known someone from the board would of been there.. I would of been so happy :( |
I'm glad you decided to go, Monique!
This will make you fall out of love with me: *choke, sniffle... sniffle* Well, the truth is... *honk* ...I'm a pen snob. :Sob: It all started when I was the recipient of the graduation gift of fine writing instruments. It wasn't my fault! :Bawling: I've tried to kick the habit, honestly, I have!:o I have a thing for linen and cotton paper too. :Bawling::Bawling::Bawling: |
Shaking head in agreement. I know...look at her pic. "Pen Snob" written all over on it...
|
My niece's husband is a drug rep/salesman. They give us bundles of pens for meds that bit the dust. :Scratch-Head: Also sticky note pads, plastic tumblers, tote bags, etc... I see them about once a year, and still have much of the inventory from last year's visit.
Once at a wireless convention I got a Verizon Wireless pen that had a button on the end that vibrated when you held it down. I like the gel type pens but they leak in my purse and/or in the pencil holder. |
Just to be a downer, of course, but leave us not forget that those "free" pens don't just fall out of the sky.
OK, OK, roll your eyes, I don't care. But when companies give out free pens, they figure that in their overhead, which is handed down to guess who? My customers walk out with pens maybe about three a week. They're pretty much crummy cheap pens, and they walk away by accident. Once in a while I inadvertantly order "good" ones, and I lose maybe one a day. That sounds like peanuts, but I'm a little bitty Post Office. Five pens a week in every Post Office comes out to something like $30,000 a year. And we're not even giving them out on purpose!! By the way, I most certainly DO take a free pen or other gizmo when offered, and I'm not saying it's an evil practice. I'm just saying they're not really free. My theory is more like, I paid for it anyway somehow, so I might as well take it! The giveaway kind aren't usually attractive to those of us who are pen snobs, right Cindy? My preference right now is the Staedtler Liquid Point 7, with the superfine point. :D |
Would you believe it..............? I didn't see one in GA. Sorry Monique!!

So far, the Mont Blanc Virginia Woolf Limited has held my attention lately, but alas, it is beyond my financial grasp. :( If only it weren't worth so much to the seller!:( |
My first love is gel pens or something that glides smoothly. But, I am in grad school for social work so I'm the type of person to include everyone..so EVERY pen is good, esp free ones! And they were passing out some nice ones yesterday, not just $.03 ballpoint pens. I have them in a handicapped driver services mug (scored two of those) ;) .. Well.. I am off to start the day.. for father's day I bought a whole bunch of stuff to detail my ex husband's car.
So, I'm going to make his car squeaky clean for father's day..then I will clean up mine. Maybe it's because I'm a visual person but I would rather write things down as far as class papers or notes for myself and I have a ton of pens and pads of paper. I mean..if you're going to have something you like -- glad its an inexpensive interest ;) I bet some of you have shoe fetishes *lol* luckily.. I am happy buying $5 shoes at walmart... ..... still being a cheap date... |
