Summer Heat Whine Thread . . . .
It's like, I don't know, 106 out today and this heat is killing me. I brought some laundry out to the car to bring to DBF's to wash. The car is only maybe 50 feet from my front door. On the way back to the house, my vision gets blurry. That crappy blurry vision I get often during the summer months. UGH! I was supposed to get DD16 from her friends house too. Fumbling through the numbers on the phone I had to call her to tell her that I was going to be late. Thank goodness her sweet friend offered to bring her home.
Passing the whine COOLER . . . . |
Uh, maybe we'd better choose a cooler venue for the GTG. Alaska GTG anyone? ;)
|
Every time I want to whine about the heat or humidity here, I just think about all you guys that have such high temps! 106!!
Passing the whine cooler... |
Oh...you probably don't want the weather report from Washington State today then do ya?
|
Most of North Western US and BC have had probably a total of 3 days of sunshine all Spring. BRING ON THE HEAT!!! (I HATE cold!)
They should make portable air conditioners, eh? Cherie |
It's not quite that hot here, TK, but it doesn't matter, because anything over 80 with humidity, kills me. This is not the warmest summer we've had, but it seems to be my worst summer, so far,for me.. I just hate it..
I don't even get out of the house that much, but it's still bothering me. and since I took that spill, everything seems multiplied a 100 times..Ya know.. Thanks for the heat whine thread, TK.. I hope it gets cooler there, for you.. |
Thanks for the thread. I whine daily on the subject. At least 1/2 of our days this month have been 85+ and lots of the dreadful humidity.
I seriously considering going back to Colorado. At least there when it's 90 the sweat evaporates before I feel it. :D I never got sunburned there either. Any MSers in CO, looking for a housemate? ;) There's a pool in the backyard, but it's too hot to be in the sun. And I burn easily too. Unfortunately, I'm the only one in the family that doesn't handle the sun well. Tomorrow the plan is to cookout, swim, and bake in the sun. I'lll be the one under the umbrella with the SPF 5000 sunscreen. There, (taking a deep breath), jumping off my :Soapbox: I'm feeling cooler already. I wish. |
It's been cooler here. Jim's feet haven't swelled so the humidity isn't so bad. But oh, a week or so ago it was brutal! Even at 70 degrees the water in the air was thick. This next week is going to be cool and we are going to enjoy it while we can. I just know old man heat is waiting around the corner to fire us up on that grill!

We've had unusually hot weather here in GA - upper 90's!! We usually don't get that until August - and it's just the first of June!!
I have been staying inside for the most part - only venturing out to get the mail. I know my neighbors must think I drink.....as I stagger out to the mailbox in my pajama pants and t-shirt at 2 o'clock in the afternoon!! I want to complain about the heat - and then I see a news story about the elderly in downtown Atlanta who live in a hi-rise and have had no A/C in months.....makes me ashamed as I sit in my nice cool house with the ceiling fans running. :o I get the blurry vision, too, when the heat zaps me. And the dizziness. I hate it but what are we gonna do.....? I remember when we used to have the pool - it'd be great for the first month or so then it was like jumping in bath water it got so warm. Seemed pointless to keep it going during the hottest months... Oh well....look at the bright side....just 6 more months till Christmas!!! :p |
Only six months until Christmas?? And that's the BRIGHT side????
|
Okay....how 'bout 5 months till Thanksgiving? Or 4 months till Halloween? :o :o
|
In the Toledo OH area, we had an unusually cool spring. This is the 1st year we did not open the pool Memorial day weekend. It was in the 60's and raining.
We were almost a week late. Then, it got right up into the 90's - every other day. When it's not 90+, we're having a T storm and once we had a possible tornado. Still I prefer this to the 18 months of winter and people who can't drive in snow - What? You slide on ice? Really? |
Kelly - 106 and 80% humidity is far worse than 106 and 7% humidity. MSacorn is right - the sweat evaporates quickly in drier climates.
Yesterday was another brutal one - 109. I was Jello all day as I tried to tackle Mt. St. Laundry that I brought over to DBF's. The washer and dryer are in the garage. UGH!!! Poor DBF, he was trying to install the evaporative cooler on the roof of the garage yesterday to make it easier on me to do the laundry as well as for when we start working on the kitchen cabinets. He said it was brutal up on the roof. (Remember - shade is scarce in the desert so the sun just blazes). I took wet rags (clean) and froze them so he could use them around his neck to keep cool. The good news was that by 5 it was done and the garage cooled down in no time. Passing the whine cooler . . . . |
I was hot last week when it hit 84!!! I don't know what I'm going to do when it gets triple digit. But this is what I have my automatic start on my car. Before I get out of the car and turn it off I turn the AC onto max and highest speed. And my van really cools down fast! I don't know it it's because of dual climate zone in it or what but even from the door to the car it gets nice and cool. With what some of the midwest is having, I'm just grateful to have a home and not spending my days in a shelter

The new Southwest Development Plans:
I would take ANY of them right now! |
LMAO, Vic. I love the pictures. The resort one is so cool looking and the trailer park one is like the ones we made as kids. LOL.
I talked to a friend of mine who has MS yesterday and she had just come back from San Diego. She said she did fantastic there and didn't need to use her rollator, had minimal symptoms, and felt less fatigued. Once she got back to AZ, everything started again. We did talk about how perfect the weather is there year round and has a the beach to boot. Still brutally hot here. Hoping for a cooling trend. |
I have been so darn fatigued the last week and a half, and I get the feeling after reading some of the posts here that it's because of the heat and humidity.
It's cooler here now in the Chicago area, but I'm still dragging. I'm almost tempted to call the pcp and ask for provigil or some booster. My DH is concerned...he has seen me tired before, but not like this. It stinks!! |

I really liked Chicago too . . . but the weather can be difficult. Cherie |
Cherie - Chicago would not be for me. Although I have more symptoms with the heat and humidity, the cold still can bother me as far as spasticity is concerned.
OK, so we don't have much humidity here but a little shift in the humidity and you can tell the difference. It's funny how in the winter months you hear about -10 degrees with a wind chill factor. . . . They have nothing for a humidity factor. Kind of like it may be 106 with 7% humidity but it feels like 96 but 106 with 90% humidity it feels like 150 degrees. |
Counting the days to the Fall and cooler weather:)
|
Find me a place where it's like Vermont in May, September and October all year, and I'll move there. (Unless there are big spiders :D)
|
I seriously need to find a place that is cool year round. I have never had this much trouble from the heat before.
I went to the grocery store this morning and barely made it through...feeling tipsy and drunk and having trouble walking. Once home I got the groceries put away and I was done for the day. Completely exhausted. I slept for two hours this afternoon. |
Kelly, I took a really long nap today too! The heat just zaps the energy right out of me. It's going to be in the 100s all week.:(
My perfect place would be one that the temps were between 40 and 75 through out the year. A drier climate as I have been out of the humidity for a long time and don't think I could take it now. Great health care facilities as well as doctors. A body of water close by so that I can go fishing/boating. |
Today was a lovely day...75, low humidity.....So why do I feel so lousy.. I think it's not just the heat or the cold...I think it's the constant changing, back and forth, weather, that's killing me.
I'm so sorry, you all are suffering and not able to simply live your lives to the fullest, right now.....It sucks!!! I'm going to bed early tonight, as I just don't even have the energy to have fun. If the weather stays the same tomorrow, maybe I'll feel better.:) |
Sally, you are probably right. The weather throughout the country has been sort of "bipolar." I am sure that has an effect on all of us.
I hope the weather is better for you tomorrow. |

I think this weather is making me bipolar.
I feel up one minute down the next. The fatigue has really gotten to me this year. Sally I think you are right about this crazy weather. The body just doesn't know which way to go. HEAT**COLD**HEAT**COLD Wake up in the morning about 2 hrs. later I am going back to sleep another 2-3 hrs. Half way through the afternoon I am napping again. My vision is giving me a lot of trouble, that is why some days I don't check NT until later in the day. But can only stay at it for a little while, then have to quit. Hope we all make it through the summer without having to many problems. Jappy  |
