Upper and lower scope tomorrow!

Hello Everybody, :)

Tomorrow I get my first colonoscopy (I'm 50) and an upper scope of the esophagus. I'm on a liquid diet today and starving.

Tonight I have to drink 4 liters of vile tasting (I'm told) liquid and camp out in the bathroom.

Wish me luck. I sure wish I could have a sandwich or something. :p

Victor H 06-19-2008 01:56 PM

I hope it goes well, Wiz.

SandyC 06-19-2008 02:04 PM

Good luck tomorrow and especially tonight. I hope all turns out well to!

DM 06-19-2008 03:15 PM

Poor Wiz~ the flat tasting alka seltzer *blech* prep; but as we said at the GTG; you need to get it done. I'm proud of ya; you can do it.

I plug my nose when I drink a glassful and then w/o taking a breath, I pop a peppermint in my mouth for a couple of seconds. Helps a little, plus keep the mixture in the fridge, as it is supposed to taste better cold.

Will be thinking of you and let us know how the tests went. Take care my lil Wiz friend.

Bannet 06-19-2008 04:55 PM

What a bummer! (i haven't said that word in ages lol) That stuff is disgusting so do what dm said. Get it nice and cold and hold your nose.

I don't think it would be as bad if you did it on a full stomach but nooooooo They have to starve ya first!

Get some good readin material in the ladies room. you're gonna need it.

Good luck. I'll be thinkin of you (not being in the ladies room of course but in the room where they do the test) you know what I mean:rolleyes:

soxmom 06-19-2008 04:59 PM

Wishing you the best Wiz!!!!!:)

Ill be thinking of you......

Blessings2You 06-19-2008 05:06 PM

If anybody tells you "Pretty soon it will all be behind you", smack 'em. You're allowed.

Seriously, I'll be praying for you. It will be fine, and you'll be glad you did it.

Kitty 06-19-2008 05:10 PM

I'm glad you're being proactive and taking care of yourself. I hope everything goes well for you. Sometimes the prep is worse than the actual test!!

AfterMyNap 06-19-2008 05:51 PM

Ugh, I hate having my upper scoped. Well, I guess I'm not real fond of having my lower scoped either!

Hey, if they find any money, it's mine!

I just hope all those lost socks turn up! :)

barb02 06-19-2008 06:29 PM

Good luck with both procedures and the prep. Just think -- it is a quick way of taking off a few pounds. :p I was allowed to mix my med with juice this time, and it was not quite as bad.

Twinkletoes 06-19-2008 07:20 PM

I'm glad you're getting it done. I was a big girl and did both ends last Oct.

I goofed up and ate too long the first time, so they couldn't do it. The whole "process of elimination" was much better when I did it according to the directions.

The exam was a piece of cake (oops, sorry, hope you don't like cake!) ;) Of course, I was asleep, but there was just about no recovery time.

Good luck and have fun!

Don't forget to post the pictures!!!!

DM 06-19-2008 07:26 PM

Hey Wiz ~~ Had to come back to tell you something. My DH's buddy was having a colonoscopy a while back and was asking my DH questions.

My DH told him to drink the Prep all down and then go for a nice long drive.

Of course, I grabbed the phone and set him straight. We still have a good laugh on that one.

*DH claims he would have told him the truth, but I guess the jury's still out on that one* Good luck tomorrow Wiz!

MSacorn 06-19-2008 07:28 PM

Good Luck Wiz
It's no fun top or bottom, but kudos for staying proactive. Keeping you in my prayers.

mom23angels 06-19-2008 09:55 PM

OoooOO.. yeah .. post pictures ;)

Becky21 06-19-2008 11:25 PM

Good luck on your test tomorrow. Hopefully, your doctor will give you enough sedation that you won't remember a thing.

I have had 5 colonoscopies and 2 endoscopies. The last one I had I remembered my doctor telling me to stop talking and relax. It's the only thing I remembered and the next day when I asked him about it, he told me I was asking him for more drugs. It was hilarious!!! I had no clue I said that.:D

Koala77 06-19-2008 11:31 PM

Good luck tomorrow Wiz, but I hope you're tucked up in bed now and not even reading this! :D

Taffy 06-19-2008 11:51 PM

I will be thinking of you!

Jodylee 06-20-2008 06:39 AM

Good luck Wiz! I've been scoped through both ends too :)! It sucks, the prep is the wost part! With 2 'Crohnies' in my house it seems like someone is always getting scoped :D!
I really hope you have an early morning appointment, it really stinks to have to wait around all day.

tkrik 06-20-2008 11:40 AM

Sorry I saw this post late.:( I hope all goes well today.

Piece of advise from experience - While the Versed is awesome and takes a bit to wear off, you feel goofy and out of it but DON'T eat a nice steak afterwards.:o I learned that after my one and only upper. Never had the lower, not looking forward to it either.

SallyC 06-20-2008 11:46 AM

I know I'm late, but I pray all goes or went well today.

Twinkletoes 06-20-2008 11:51 AM

So, Wiz, are you squeeeeeeky clean? Let us know how it went, K?

DM 06-20-2008 12:09 PM

Hope your'e not too pooped to come back and update us WIZ!!

Hope all went well and your'e good for another 50 yrs.

ewizabeth 06-20-2008 12:14 PM

Thanks Everybody for your well wishes and prayers! I'm home and had my morning oatmeal and pills, now getting ready for some leftover pasta for lunch. :p

You're all absolutely right, the prep was the worst, drinking all of that liquid plus the starving myself on the liquid diet.

My doctor was very good, the nurses too. I didn't feel a thing and didn't wake up until I'd been back in recovery for a half hour.

Doctor says I have a hiatial hernia so I'll be staying on the Nexium for that, also he removed a small polyp from the colon but said it looks totally benign. They'll check that at the lab then I'll know if my next test will be in 3 or 5 years from now.

I'm off to have my lunch now! :D Big hugs to all of you!!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

Jappy 06-20-2008 12:42 PM

Very Happy to read that all went well.

Now fill up the stomach with all that it missed yesterday.

Jappy

doydie 06-21-2008 10:36 PM

My doctor does routine proctoscopys on me. And he has ordered barium enamas also. I will never have a barium enema again unless I am sedated!!!!!!!!

Glad the tests are 'behind you'.

Becky21 06-21-2008 11:33 PM

I'm glad to hear everything went well and you are on the right medication. I have polyps too and have to have a colonoscopy every 2 years. Didn't have any the last time so now I can wait 3 years.

Everyone should have a colonoscopy and do not put it off. One of my closest friends died of colon cancer at the age of 54 in 1996. She had no idea until her appendix ruptured when she was 52 and that's when they found the cancer. They removed a large part of her colon and thought they caught it. She went through all the chemo and did so well for 2 years but it came back with a vengence in March of 1996 and it was everywhere and she died in April 1996.

I can still hear her voice when she would call me " Hey Becky, it's Carolyn, whatcha doin'?" I sure do miss her.

Koala77 06-21-2008 11:41 PM

I'm so glad your scope went well Wiz, but I'm getting scared.

I go to see a new doctor on July 1st (we moved states), and I have to make an appt for a colonoscopy for my 1 year anniversary after having half my bowel removed in September.

I dare say it'll all go well, but my family members are all dying off from cancer now, and just because I beat it last year, doesn't mean this year will go well.

Sorry to hijack your thread Wiz, but it got me thinking about my upcoming appointment.

I'm so sorry for your stress, Anne. You are the positive exception in your family in more ways than one. Let good health and happy outcomes be another way you outshine the rest. Hugs to you!

Ooops! Sorry Wiz. Hugs to you, too!

Dear Koala,

I hope your test will go well.:hug::hug: I hope they got all the cancer and that is the end of it. I'm scared of cancer too. DH's family members have all had it but him. I talk to him about having this or that checked all the time. I'm lucky that it doesn't run in my family very much, except that my half sister had breast cancer later in life, my niece has had cervical cancer and my Dad had leukemia for a short time before he died. He was 92 at the time though so hopefully it was just because of his other health problems that were piling up.

Keep us posted in regard to your test and we'll all send up some massive prayers for you Sweetie.:hug::hug:

:grouphug: You are all in my thoughts and prayers... My hubby has been there... Hits pretty close to home!
