hory mory...
you are having me drooling all over... I love seagate drives...IMHO, they make the best drives, internal or external. That's why I own some of their stocks. LOL and that tower, what a beauty!~~ I am excited for you as if that IS going to be my puter. LOL Hey, can you post the whole package once you get it all assembled for yer fellow technophiles??? |
Sure!! Would be glad to.
It took me 8 months of research to make sure all the components would work together properly. The only one that I have a little trepidation about is the memory. Not too sure if it will be compatable, but most times memory is the least of the troubles LOL. I am gonna buy one more video card because you just cant build an SLI capable puter with only one card LOL. The mobo has the ability to have 3 cards in the SLI configuration, but 3 is a tad more than I need....well 2 is even pushin it for me....like im gonna run 10 monitors, or some super intensive video stuff..... Not!!! hahahahaha! My intentions are to build something that will be ahead of the tech curve for awhile, kinda like the one im using right now. Built this about 6 years ago, and it is only behind by not having a duo core processor. Everything else is still up to snuff with 2 gigs of ram, and a 8800 video card. I am an AMD man because the AMD's were the fastest in graphic processing, but the quad core has won my heart. I sure hope the intel quad core doesnt let me down Lol. From the reviews I read I guess I will be very happy....I sure hope so. |
heck yeah!
I take it you are a gamer...so, go for it...graphics and games go hand in hand (but heckit, you know that...what am I saying...LOL) I didn't like AMD then I liked AMD, I liked Intel then I didn't like intel. LOL I became Motorola freak when they were supporting apple and I had a mac. When intel was fused to Mac I quit Mac and learned all I could about PC's (cause of the AMD). LOLOLOL you'll be ahead of the curve, but not for long...intel already has some secret weapon they came out with last year that soared their stock for awhile. It is only available to gov't right now...talk about multi-tasking to the 100... I think you'll be happy with the quad core, it might actually be too fast for your gadgets. But there's always the upgrade. But what do I know...LMAO... I am not that great with hardwares. If you don't mind, May I ask you in the future about building my own. that is if we don't go back to the MACs. LOL it's going to be a beaut...break out that cigar when it arrives and I'll be here for the shower...LOLOLOL Quote:

OOOOOO I heard about the secret weapon! It seems they have the tech and the nology to have the L1 and L2 cache the same size for each of the cores, or sumthin like that. Plus the pc will be able to see each core as a seperate cpu making it possible to divide the work how you would like it to be processed. This opens endless application possiblities to say the least.
Now remember this is stuff I have heard from a friend that heard it from a friend LOL. Fire away with the questions, I love to put together systems, and have created about 50 so far for friends and family. Mostly they were created for lots of storage for pictures, and alot of web surfing so they werent monster rigs in any stretch of the imagination. Even though for some reason they think they need all the super expensive stuff to make their experience the total package. I think they just want bragging rights LOL. I didnt go with the real expensive stuff as it really isnt that much of a perceived difference when your computing unless your doing some serious stuff. It is a gaming rig though....wonder how ya figured im a gamer....LOL |
LMAO...I like your tech and nology **** ology...LOLOL
yeah, the duo core was a pretty good concept. Except that they used tri-core for X-box 360 which made no sense...well, actually, it made more sense cause of the gaming/streaming capabilities. The the quad core is going to be pretty awesome. I just upgraded to duo core recently right before the quad core and I could really kick myself cause I paid good price for those duo cores that dropped over night...but that's tech for ya... that secret weapon I heard will be avilabe to us by 2010. But I think it'll be sooner than that...with the new wave of True HD going on internet and they are trying to get appliances networked. I think we'll become the jetsons sooner than later... ummmm...I think your name gave away that you are a gamer...but I could be wrong...LOL cool beans, I'll look you up whenever I have some hardware questions...now I know who to come ask...I'll pay in virtual dolla, how's that? LOLOLOL stay cool...keep me updated. I am sure we've lost a few people already...LOLOL http://www.cnet.co.uk/i/c/blg/cat/blog/hair/hair_3.jpg Quote:

Well you totally lost me, but that's not hard. I am however a bit distressd to read I could have got a whole new mother board for such a petty amount, when was told to ditch my computer and get a whole new one. Darn and blast! Ya could have saved me heaps! :( |
Quote:
yeah, mother boards...they are cheaper than dirt these days...but still, one has to know the know how on how to put it in, though. The thing with puters is that, anybody can do it, if they want to. The manuals are out there. But it is a lot to learn...it's like cooking, we all can cook, but we rather eat out...LOLOL |
Sorry koala for speaking techonese LOL. Few things get me excited, but the latest technology really gets me goin! We are just seeing the dim light of the very bright future in computer technology.
One of the things I found about building or repairing puters is the ease of finding good deals and buying one or two to stow away for future disasters. The only things you dont buy to stow away is motherboards, processors, and video cards. Everything else moves at a slower rate of change. But when it comes time for those faster changing items you can usually find some great deals on newegg. You can put together a new puter piece by piece too. Just buy one or two components at a time and stash them away until you have everything. Then pretend it is christmas and put them all together. :D Sometimes you find deals on whole put together computers that you cant build that cheap. You can rest assured that the items in there, even though boasting some great attributes have cheaper parts. So spending a bit more for parts will get you sometimes 3 times the puter than those store brands. And if you research other store builds that are custom put together for you, you will find they will be alot more than what you paid if you do it yourself. Maybe they did you a real favor when they told you to dump the computer because of the mobo though. I just had a friend bring me a DOA puter where the pwer supply failed....it took out the motherboard when it went. The thing that kills things like motherboards and things in your puter is fluctuating power. So if the motherboard fried....you can almost bet there was gonna be sumthin else not to far into the distant future ;) Betcha got a better new one than the old one too lol. |
I agree wholeheartedly with Allen about Newegg. I buy from them often. Always an easy transaction.
I was in the semiconductor industry for about 12 years. I worked with an engineer who is now at Intel, and he told me that he believes AMD makes a superior processor. But this was a few years ago. Based on that, I went with AMD when I upgraded my PC with a new CPU, motherboard, and video card. Since then, AMD and Intel have been swapping "top dog" position in the reviews. I still prefer AMD. Just personal preference. |

hey o-steve, I think the chips will always try to out compete with one another...one minute, intel, one minute, AMD. I think intel's a bit ahead in the bunch right now, but I think AMD will make a comeback soon. there are a few kids on the block that is under the radar right now...I think the Korean manufacturers are going to be the wave of the future as it stands. They are having that tech summit soon, aren't they? My professor who has become a good friend of mine (he's an engineer) told me that when he worked at Charlotte, NC. They were working on a chip that is so fast that intel and AMD has nothing on them. But they couldn't get anybody to invest in it. He was awarded something in Pakistan few years back... oops, going off topic again...sorry.... now, semi-conductor...how kewl was that!! |

It was quite fun to work on those machines. Even if we had to worry about ionizing radiation and arsenic exposure. One of the gases was a hydride of arsenic. Did ya know that arsenic smells like garlic? |
wow...always a learning experience...now I wonder why all the food that da wife cooks taste like garlic and she just upped my insurance policy to over a million...
GASP, EGADS!! (just kidding....about the million. LOL) as for that Ion Implant, it kinda reminds me of the new electromag thing they are using in that country, can't remember on the top of my head to find the 10th dimension matter in the universe. I'll have to look it up... men and their inventions...can only say...WOW... thanks for sharing! Quote:

When I worked in Diffusion, I worked on a PECVD system. Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition. When I went to the manufacturer's training class they gave all of us T-shirts that said "I can maintain the 4th state of matter, plasma". With their logo, of course. Kinda neat.

Man that is a cool shirt! That sounds like it was a grrrreat job too!!!
I got almost all the parts, and put what I have together yesterday. The windows vista ultimate rocks! I decided I wanted a SATA dvd and a card reader so ordered those yesterday. One of the video cards came a day later so it isnt the pictures yet, but I will get one in here sometime later today, http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...r/100_0520.jpg Open heart surgery LOL http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...r/100_0523.jpg 8 gigs of ram http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...r/100_0524.jpg 9600 with 1 gig of ram on the card http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...r/100_0525.jpg Size comparison http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...r/100_0527.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...r/100_0532.jpg Ready to button up http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...r/100_0530.jpg Will sanp a picture with the SLI video cards in just a bit :winky: |
WOW that is a snazzy machine!!!:D

Omg....

that thing is boooootiful...*sniff*sniff...... boy, I can't wait til you put that girl together... hey steve, that sounded like a cool shirt! your talk of semi-conductor just reminded me of a couple of articles. Although not related, but kinda... http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0530174750.htm and this one that has really intrigued me...for some has said it will be doomsday...It got me started looking up Prof. Stephen Hawkins again...LOL dark matter/10th dimension research (possible doomsday? LOL) |
Hey Moi, fascinating articles. Thanks.
I didn't mention that before semiconductor work, I worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Can't tell you what I did or I'd have to kill you! LOL! Seriously though, working at LANL was very enjoyable. Like working at a university campus every day. I was encouraged and allowed to attend any seminar that piqued my interest. |
Man you guys are right on about these subjects, I love this stuff!
COOL! Steve you had the way cool jobs!! Man to be the fly on the wall in that place LOL. I can only imagine about getting the opportunity to follow ones dreams to that degree. It has to be pretty rewarding cause everyone seems to love their work. That is where the tech meets the nology, everything comes from there. |
Well im finished! This thing is soooo quiet and smooth. It has two integrated network connections allowing me to use both while gaming. How fun is that LOL The video cards are blazing fast!
Just a few more pics! http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...tgamer/SLI.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...amer/front.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y15...er/alldone.jpg |
well ATG,
that thing is just too boooootiful for words....*sniff*sniff... you did a great job! (pat on yer back) and steve, can I say, HOLY MOLY!!! I hope you are keeping your identity safe there...don't want no terrorist to go and kidnap you...LOL wow...if only I have some sorta torture device through haptic technology through the web to you...LOL Or wonder woman's magic lasso...and I must say, she can get me to tell the truth without the lasso...LOL you guys are too fun. Maybe we should start a geek tawk thread....LOL I must catch up with work. But would love to chat up more when I get back. :D oh, you guys would probably laugh at this...my latest venture while I was away, was to help engineer a "purse" which I've neve design before...I have to look up zippers, clasps, leather, bottons.... hey, housing market is really slow, have to do what I've gotta do....LMAO............ and I must say, designing a purse is a lot harder than I'd realized....LMAO.....maybe ATG can help me build it(can you buy leather and buttons from New Egg? LOL) and steve can help me send it to Los Alamos to "fashion" it as a secret weapon. LOLOLOL |
