Alffe:Who are we? And why do we hang out here?

Some of us have lost a loved one to suicide...some of us are feeling so crushed by life that we want it to end.

We come together for support..we count on each other to pick us up, dust us off and give us a reason to try some more.

We don't judge people in this forum and we ask not to be judged ourselves.
When you share here, we promise to listen with our hearts.

All are welcome....especially lurkers! :D
First of all we are here to offer and receive support. That may come in may different avenues.

Straying from the main purpose of the forum once in awhile is fine.

We all need to keep in mind of the people that are reading here for help. Most will never join, but do get help from what we have posted.

I am gently asking that SOS not be used for so much OT, but that those posts and threads be made in the appropriate forums.

who moi 07-07-2008 12:25 PM

I apologize in all sincerety...

 (((moi)))

this is absolutly not about you or anyone in particular.

doc made the other type of forums, like social and emotional support, so the forums don't end up with too much OT. going OT is fine. we just need to watch how much we do it.

I agree...so thumps to the head and earpulling at the same time to moi....

my apology IS sincere...I DID go overboard...no excuses...

so, I hope a lot of lurkers read here and know that they are SAFE to come in here and talk about the TOPIC...SOS...

and yes, I KNOW it's not about moi...LMAO.....

well, I will bow out gracefully before I put anymore foot in my mouth...

I will see you all when I can "calm" down.......

Curious 07-07-2008 12:52 PM

oh...i forgot to add..

it does help if the off topic threads are title with an OT. that will help those not wishing to read OT threads.

the wonder threads don't need that. :D

don't forget to put a link inthe wonder thread to other threads you make in the other forums.

Burntmarshmallow 07-07-2008 01:14 PM

Thanks yappa for reminding me... I swear I wrote very close to the same thing on someones postie that went in mail today... or was it my hand lol.
I dont understand about putting link in wonder thread to other posts we make in other forums...like I post in T.N. and creative corner but I never
leave a link...I figure one can just stalk my posts and find all they wish .
so back to seriously ..not using s.o.s. as fun and games cept for every now and then...got ya ;)
I wont say I am sorry (but bmw is) ..... instead I will just remember and promise to stick to the gentle reminder ;).
THANKS . hugs to everyone and ....of coarse...
PEACE
BMW :grouphug:

what i mean is like when cheryl mentioned her thread on stumble inn about the portland trip, to include a link. or if other ot type of posts are made on social that you want sos members to be included or know about.

tovaxin_lab_rat 07-07-2008 05:00 PM

I am sorry too for taking threads off topic. I will follow directions more closely in the future. My sincere apologies to the rest of the forum. :o

Abbie 07-07-2008 05:25 PM

My apologies to everyone also. I will behave...

Maybe we can get a fun room like the mser's stumble inn.... ?

That way we can still be silly with each other but others don't have to shuffle through the ot stuff.

Just my two pennies worth...
:o:o
Abbie

hmmmmm, I am trying to word this without offence to anyone, not an easy feat!

I do understand and agree 100% that there should be ON topic threads, and I also agree that this is vital to the lurkers.. Being one myself this past March, I do know how important that is. In all honesty, that is why I posted about my Dad and the song the other night.

I see no easy way to say this, so I guess I will just blurt this out there.....
I want very much to respect NT and the SOS forum. I am hoping this isn't aimed at the Sleepless at SOS forum? If it is please let me know that too!

But, I do hope it isn't. I have to tell you ...last night was the first time I have slept more than 2 to 3 hours in one night since March. I truly believe it was because I had laughed so much with my SOS family. Social chat etc, would not be the same. We have a connection here, and it is with you all that I wish to not only share the tears and sorrow, but the laughs as well.

i will quote myself. this is not just about anyone person...or any one thread.

Nik-key 07-07-2008 06:54 PM

I thank you for the quote to Moi, I didn't see in there anything about a particular thead, hence the reason for my asking.
Just wanted to make sure:hug:
Abbie that is a GREAT idea! I wonder how we can get that set up. I didn't see your post when I wrote mine, but that is just what I meant..... I want to share with YOU GUYS, something like that would be perfect. Your so smart:D

Koala77 07-07-2008 11:18 PM

I saw what you said about not being about one person or one particular thread, but just the same.........http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...leys/sorry.gif If I've done something wrong!

If opening the Sleepless Thread was the wrong thing to do, then please accept my most humble apologies.

Nik-key 07-07-2008 11:35 PM

Koala, I don't think it is wrong at all. No different than the wonder, whats on your plate, or the what made someone mad etc etc threads.... Perhaps there was just too many of these types of threads going all at once?

Until we can see about Abbie's brillant idea, about getting a subforum where we can chat like other rooms have...perhaps you could start a new sleepless in SOS.. But in the title put an off topic? As curious suggested.

I know I have enjoyed the past two previous nights, more than all my nights since march combined! :Thanx::hug:

Personally, I don't like the idea of one area for smiles and giggles and one area for tears and pain. No one will ever visit the area just for tears and pain. If they stumble into the fun area, they won't feel like they belong because they may be experiencing tears and pain. They are the ones who need a good laugh the most. They are the ones who need to learn how to laugh again.

I think the combination of real life issues and jokes/laughter makes it easier to find a reason to keep on living. As long as jokes/laughter are not directed at anyone here, or with malicious intent, there's no reason to take them personally. We're a family here. Even if you don't feel a personal/family connection to this forum, we're a team. :grouphug:

Yeah, I know I had something to do with this. These reminders come up everytime I open my mouth in pain. :p I really am trying to scream in silence, but it's just not working very well. :o

Jomar 07-08-2008 12:13 PM

I think a clear title should work fine... if it's OT, smiles or lighthearted just add it into your thread title and everyone can tell easily.

For any newbies or lurkers that are reading they will be able to tell "on topic" SOS threads from the OT ones.

Curious 08-27-2008 01:24 PM

this thread needs to bumped up.

some had issues when the fun and games were happening. they asked that it be steered back on topic. it was respected.

i am asking that again. many are upset and don't feel that sos is a place to discuss or campaign the presidential election or political topics. we need to respect them also.

our guidelines state to limit political discussions. we have a socal chat forum.

this thread is not to debate the guidelines. if you have a question or an issue with them, it needs to be done by pm to an admin or mod.

Alffe 08-27-2008 01:30 PM

??? Hmmmmmmmm....I thought it was about supporting one of the members who is very down. I don't see a political discussion....

Addy 08-27-2008 02:17 PM

One of us is in serious pain - both physical and mental... the political issue exacerbated the situation - I don't think there was a discussion - perhaps an agreement???... not sure... but honestly, in my opinion, not a political discussion.

thanks for listening :)
