You think you know your spouse.

So it's really quiet, and I walk into the kitchen, and Bob is just standing there with a faraway look in his eyes. Just standing there, not moving for the longest time. His head is kind of down, he's not drinking his coffee. Obviously lost in thought.

He has totally no expression on his face. He doesn't look up as I slip past and pour myself a glass of water, and I wonder: What is he thinking about so deeply that he hasn't moved a muscle for several minutes?

Is he pondering his (and all of our) uncertain future? Is he regretting something in the past? Meditating on a Scripture verse? Mourning his lost youth and health? Debating how to break some news to me?

Could he be worried about something? Is there something he isn't telling me? Is he trying to work himself up to say something romantic that I'll write down in my journal and treasure always?

I walked over close to him and gently touched his arm. "Penny for your thoughts," I said quietly.

He turned and looked at me.

And said, "I'm not thinking about ANYthing. I'm listening to see if the washer stopped so I can put the towels in the dryer."

Kitty 07-12-2008 06:27 AM

And that's about as deep as it gets with most men!!! :D

GladysD 07-12-2008 09:21 AM

PRICELESS!!! Love this thread :)

kicker 07-12-2008 10:12 AM

B2Y,
That's most men, not just yours.

Jules A 07-12-2008 10:13 AM

ROFL! Yeah and if my DH did happen to be actually thinking about something I have no desire to know what it is. ;)

hjmom 07-12-2008 10:20 AM

LOL, Sounds just like my DH!

SandyC 07-12-2008 10:27 AM

LOL Thanks for the smile this morning. This is a moment I am sure should be written down in your journal. haha

weegot5kiz 07-12-2008 11:18 AM

Mine thinks about laundry a lot. No really he always wants to know why his one pair of favorite shorts aren't washed and ready to wear all the timed. He's also very good at telling me when he is down to his next to last pair of socks or underwear. :smirk:

Blessings2You 07-12-2008 12:02 PM

Bob does MOST of the laundry, except for some of my stuff that has "special rules".

And he knows exactly how many minutes in each cycle. If he's waiting for "my" load to be done so he can put it in the dryer for me, he'll ask "What time did you put it in?"

Are you KIDDING? As in "seventeen minutes ago"? Like I pay attention to the time I start a load of laundry?

He's very schedule-oriented.

Cool! Time to get him started on kitchen and bathroom schedules. :D

Blessings2You 07-12-2008 12:17 PM

He does the dishes (kitchen schedule) and he changes the toilet paper (bathroom schedule). And he doesn't leave the seat up. :D

hjmom 07-12-2008 12:40 PM

My DH does laundry better than I do.. I always forget that something is in there that shouldn't go in the dryer, but he always is very thorough in going through the clothes. :D

snoodles 07-12-2008 04:29 PM

ROFL !!!
Thanks for the laugh and that sounds EXACTLY like my husband was. I could just see us having that very same conversation !!!!

You made me smile !!!

Snoopy 07-12-2008 04:43 PM

LMAO. Men can be such deep thinkers :p

My DH and kids were taking care of the laundry and everything else around the house a few years ago - I was non-weight bearing due to a broken ankle.

The first time I went to use the dryer the insde was blue :icon_eek: I asked all three of them how it got blue. It was a mystery, none of them had any idea

I think it's much safer if I do the laundry :p

weegot5kiz 07-12-2008 07:29 PM

I dont want to hear, men cant do this or that, as a sole parent I did it all and did so b4 godzilla left. even my kids helped when they could, like seans first load of laundry and half a bottle of ERA,

took a good 8 hours to get the suds to stop flowing from every pipe and even the toilet, my mom tells me later vinegar will help cut it, yeah thanks i killed my wash machine running rinse cycle after rinse cycle

still b2u this was one of the best laughs i have had in a long time thank you

starfish 07-12-2008 07:36 PM

OMG, a man that does the laundry well! I hope you give that man a big hug. There are not too many like that!!

sabimax 07-12-2008 08:28 PM

hey men also think deeply...too...

Hubby was in thought the other day, then did share he was so concerned for me....feels bad that I suffer so much without a dx....and he mentioned sometimes he feels helpless..not knowing what to do or what to say....

but also, some men do laundry woohooooo mine does sometimes..once in a while..hehe I do have many kids..that do dishes, and other chores woohooo

hugsss thanks for the laughter, sarah

Dejibo 07-13-2008 09:01 AM

my hubby tells me i over analyze everything. that I put too much thought into what others think, or how others are feeling, or how others react.

He says men just grab what is in front of them, and move onto the next job.

Solid, honest, stable, compassionate, and 20 plus years of comfort and I am still surprised when I see moments like you saw.

tovaxin_lab_rat 07-13-2008 11:50 AM

I am not sure PODH even knows where the washer and dryer are located in the house!! Let alone what they sound like or how long a load takes!

He does however know how to run the dishwasher.

Jappy 07-13-2008 12:03 PM

Thanks for this. I needed a good laugh.
This is priceless.

Jappy :D

Taffy 07-13-2008 01:54 PM

lol! Thanks for the great laugh! Sorry it was at your DH expense!

Blessings2You 07-13-2008 02:04 PM

It's not at his expense if he doesn't know about it...

SallyC 07-13-2008 03:40 PM

One day a housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweatshirt.
Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to his wife,

"What setting do I use on the washing machine?""

It depends," she replied. "What does it say on the shirt?"

He yelled back, "University of Michigan" :D:D:D
